By your logic the companies have no more claim to the intellectual property than the employees who did the work because both where paid by a 3rd party the government.

  13.  @manumano3887  the stock holders didn't fund the R&D they bought shares in a company who took government funding for R&D. They will still own their shares of the company's physical assets regardless of what happens to the technology the government grants funded.

The current waiver is just one example of the ways they can. The Defense production act actually gives the government the right to take the entire company and nationalize the production lines not just use the intellectual property. Trumped signed the authorization of usage of the DPA with respect to covid so the stock holders should be happy their share price didn't drop to zero

All the investment ads on TV in the 1980s had the standard disclaimer that past performance is no guarantee of future results. That investing in the stock market entails risk of losing capital. Sorry if you didn't understand that simple fact when you made an investment.

See the WTO has the authority to act based on the agreement of all member countries. They signed that agreement in order to be part of the international trading committee.

  20. DW News should have included in this news story that coal is a major driving force behind the climate crisis which is making our planet not support human life. That we need to end the ussage of all ff if we want to keep living as a species. That both parties in this dispute need to find a new economy not dependent on ff which is killing our species.

  29.  @charlesvan13  you clearly don't understand the ruling by the court. They pushed it back to Congress saying they didn't believe the courts have the right to rule as they did in Roe. But that doesn't change the fact that federal government has more authority than state government in our constitution. At the moment it falls to state laws because there is no federal law once Congress passes federal law it will become the law of the land regardless of what the states rule same as the federal court ruling in Roe applied to all 50 states making the more restrictive laws in the states non enforceable for the last half century because the states rights are limited by the federal government not the other way around.

It isn't a question of intelligence it is a question of greed by the very few at the top vs the livelihood of our entire species. It is something like the top 10% wealth wise are responsible for more than half our carbon emissions. So the majority of the problem is a very small percentage of humanity's greed.

When you have to use a different order of magnitude to count the people raw numbers don't tell you anything useful. Or another figure the top 1% of wealthy on planet earth produce more than twice the emmisions of the poorest 3.5 billion people. Only by looking at the per capita can you see that it is a lifestyle caused peoblem.

  43.  @Thunder_Yoda  the USA just gave the nuclear industry a 6 billion dollar bailout not to build new plants but just to keep existing one operating. That tells you how bad the ecominic situation is for nuclear power. You tell me which government has had to give solar or wind farms 6 billion dollars to keep operating after they where installed and the constitution costs paid for. Spoiler alert you can't because solar has zero operating costs. I know this because my solar system works without any additional mantaince.

So you are excited that we will have millions of doses to fit a demand for 15.6 billion. Last time I checked billions are several orders of magnitude larger than millions. India alone needs 2.8 billion doses for their own population. But heck dont worry there will be millions to meet the needs of billions.
