  2. Re right of return, my family were refugees in early 1900s. They left land and even a vodka factory. But no one is talking about right of return for us. Isnt there a point when you say 'this is history' & move on? Also, re 7th October, there WERE gang rapes. Women were found with broken pelvises. The attacks were filmed. Also, he makes out that Israel is made up of Europeans. Actually only about 31% of Israelis are Ashkanazi. 20%+ of Israelies are Arab. Israel's jews are made up of Mizrahis 44.9% (grandparents born in North Africa or Asia), 12.4% are Soviet, 3% are from Ethiopia) and 7.9% are a mix of these, or other Jewish groups. There are also many small groups such as Arab Christians, Druze, Bedouin. Israel is made up of many people who were pushed out of the surrounding countries where it is not safe to be anything other than Muslim. There were hundreds of thousands of Jews in middle east countries but life was made intolerable. Israel is a sanctuary country for jews and other minority groups.

  4. I work in the professional (non academic) side of universities & I have been trying to work out how institutions get ideologically captured. There is a lot of competitive cross pollination between universities & they favour the 'progressive' without much critical examination. Therefore if you have a passionately ideological EDI team or senior manager who has the ear of the executive team, just that relatively small factor can have a huge impact with massive ripple effect. Huge numbers of staff members are just sheeplike & will follow whatever they are told is the currently 'right' (but not right wing!) thing to do. Also the higher education unions (unison & UCU & the SU for students) are extremely ideologically captured and push that ideology constantly.

  7. Very significant, the part about KPIs on certain crimes & that affecting funding. The criteria for attendance should be based on seriousness of crime. And there should be enough resourcing to attend (almost) EVERY crime, including all sexual violence & home invasions

  12.  @usn8964  such a good question! Too often we use words without defining our terms & that prevents any development in our mutual understanding & thinking. How about this definition? The working class are those who have none of the necessary premises, equipment, materials, or the money to acquire these things, that are needed to engage in production or exchange – to make a living on the market – and can trade only their ability to work (labour power).

  13. The biggest cause of death for young men is accident including traffic accidents. Suicide is second leading cause of death. This is because (generally) they don't have other things to die from- all the other risks grow as you age eg cancer, heart disease, stroke. Young men are still less at risk of suicide than middle aged men. Young men have less mental illness than young women.

  19. Also lots of ways that waste of money is built into the system. Eg when the NHS was designed it was also planned that pharma would be nationalised. This was blocked. The NHS now pays more for medicines than we do as individuals. Eg the paracetamol you get given in hospital costs more than the paracetamol you'd buy in the supermarket

  38. Re legislation- repeal the Gender Recognition Act. Remove gender reassignment as a protected characteristic from the Equality Act. Apart from that, the Equality Act is sound & as she says, has been very protective of our freedom of speech and belief
