  2.  @tonivazquez1081  and greed, money and corruption has been a constant factor in Spanish heavy industry ever since the 1920ies as far as I've percived it, especially in the weapons industry. On the other hand, I have no idea how the Italians have managed so much better in the defence industry with a similiar level of organised corruption. I've got nothing against Spain as a country or it's people. And without the Spanish food industry, my own country would have a truly pathetic vegetable section in our stores most of the year.

  3. Same, though we, like everyone else also have some just as nasty slime in the bottom of the barrel. Or at least, had, I've gotten the impression that the temporary hiatus of conscript service and the accompanying mass demilitarization, while a disaster on the materiel and facilities side to the point where I considder it criminal destruction of public property, has also washed out a lot of the really bad, penalistic, sexist and authoritarian disgraceful officers that were able to hide their abusive nature in the old system by covering up eachothers crimes against conscripts and cadets alike in a way that became impossible in the near decade long era of contract employed soldiers of all ranks that's now gradually beeing replaced with a new mix of contract employed and conscripts, though I understand it as if individual battalions are single form, either contracted full time, contracted part time or conscript but not mixed. And Home Guard separate but with a much higher and earned status than in the old system.

  4. ​ @IamWartinder  the Tulpan works, but it's very vulnerable on the modern battlefield as it's range isn't much better than a western 120mm mortar and so very slow to limber/unlimber and just as slow on the road compared to 120mm western shoot and scoot armored mortars like the the NEMO, AMOS, Mjölner or even the old US 120mm mortar in an M113 APC.

  6. I only skip cammo cream on the ears, because I wear com tacs over ear plugs anyway. And white skin around the eyes stand out like a sore thumb in a forest or a dark room, because it's an subconcious instinctual recognition feature. Just like the regular shape of a portapotty/outhouse in a dark forest after three days army exercise living on nothing but canned, un heated meat filled ravioli in tomato sauce and no time to take a dump...

  10. Old Swedish cold war doctrine was to 1) make your own door with a Carl Gustaf HEAT shell just below a window where the radiators usually sits on the inside. If possible, a half or one stair above ground level. 2) Clearing team rushes forward from a protected position as close to the target as possible, either riding on top of an APC/IFV/Tank or carrying ladders. If riding on an APC/IFV/Tank, the vehicles main or coax&pintle guns are used to further supress the breaching zone while the support section that opened the hole shifts fire to supress the floors above, and side platoons provide flank cover vs. other streets and buildings. If no vehicle is used, the first thing up the ladder is a frag grenade. The breeching team secures the breech and adjacent rooms, then estimate the protective value of the interior walls. 3)A second squad is sent in, if the walls around the entry zone or one of the adjacent rooms is solid enough to stop splinters, the second squad applies plastic explosives to the roof and blows a hole up. A frag goes up, then the second squad pushes up and clears that entry zone, rinse and repeat until the attic is reached, then clear the building top down. Any connected buildings were to be accessed through making breaches through the attics.

The ladders were only for reaching the breach into the first floor of 3< floors appartment houses 2-4m up off the ground, and, once inside, for setting up new floor-floor passages between appartments instead of going into the buildings preexisting stairwells and elevator shafts, those are left alone so that the opfor has an obvious way of retreat into the waiting embrace of the flank protection units that provides overwatch along the outside of the building.

  17. Except it gives you a false definition of what kind of obstacles counts as cover and what's merely concealement. Eg, a drywall or plywood board is adequate cover in airsoft... a .22LR sports shooting bullet has no problem with punching through more than 10cm of solid pine heartwood beams.

  18. Curious that the Canadian army has a 400+rnd allowance between barrel changes, my country only has a 250rnds continous fire allowance between barrel changes... My country also mainly use german pattern 49 round modular steel belts as opposed to infinite desintegrating links.

I would trust objective destructive test results by a third party nation that has no interest in adopting any of the competing vehicles and thus no interest in accepting bribes/kickbacks to skew the results in comparison with other MBTs the Arjun is claimed to equal or overmatch.

The existing bridges will be used by IFVs to take a bridge head with tanks providing overwatch while a bidge layer tank or combat engineers deploy one or more NATO standard bridges or pontoon ferries to get the tanks across. Or the tanks get prepped for deep wading (less than 6m depth) and go across on their own. Besides, any bridge that can carry a train or a cargo truck or farming tractor with fully loaded trailer can take a Challenger or Leopard2.

I haven't had the chance to meet any Canadian service members so far, but there are a few universal thing in every armed service: 1) listen and think before you act, always ask for clarification if you don't understand an order and it's purpose before the shit hits the fan. 2) stay as fit as you can 3) always keep your eating utensils as close as your gun, and keep them as close to sterile as possible. Never use plastic utensils for more than one serving. 4) Make friends or trusted buisness partners with as many as possible, you never know when you'll need a favour or someone to cover your backside until you do. 5) make an effort to get comfortable whenever you get a chance, because you never know how long the rest will be or how long the next phase of action will turn out.

If anything they sre known for combining already tried and tested concepts from whatever is availiable in new, still reliable, configurations with open end software on plug and play modular platforms as 'conscript proof' as possible.

  30. Closed top AFVs are usually safe against most HEFRAG that isn't detonating directly against the armor hull. Occationally, you get shell shrapnel big enough to tear through the side, rear or top of IFVs/APCs. And either way, the concussion does nasty things to crew/passengers with anything not bolted/strapped down inside an AFV even without direct hits. Securing cargo is no joke.

  34. If on your own, it should be. If a team of two well drilled operators, you should be able to do at least 2 aimed shots every 3 seconds sustained firing for 10-20sec. If whatever you are shooting at isn't dead as a dodo by then, you better haul ass...

I did my conscript training as a radio specialist in a mortar platoon battery control squad. 3x 12cm towed pieces, 6ft long tube, 600lb base plate and 150lb bipod. 7.5km range with a choise of programmable fuse (impact, airburst or delayed option) HEFRAG, Smoke, Illum or a special Heat-seeking homing top-down HEAT round with optional rocket booster :P

Going by how the line companies IFVs looked after a few days in the field... I bet you tankers use the traditional method due to the camera beeing more or less mud covered most of the time no matter how often you tried washing it clean.

  41.  kevin lawrence  I know that, the A-10 is very much a one trick mule. It can fly low, slow on steady, straight wings, carry lots of bombs and take a beating from below over and over and over again, but it's a sitting duck against any kind of fighter and even some attack helicopters.

  46.  @Elenrai  the only incompetent women in uniform I've met in the Swedish armed forces were three other 18-20yo conscripts back in 2003 whos incompetence was made self evident by them beeing arrested one evening by the watch officer on duty as they were making donuts in the drill yard gravel... In front of the regimental HQ office building... In a Scania semi-trailer truck... While too drunk to walk straight... On booze they had smuggled pas the gate guards... And that's not really an incompetent women stunt as much as a stupid bored teen stunt.

  48. AdamosDad my dad as an ex coastal artillery officer also has pretty shot hearing... One of the reasons beeing that he, as a cadet called a cease-fire order through a back-mounted speaking tube to the crew of a single compartment, twin barrel 155mm turret, failed to be heard by the people inside and as he put his ear to the tube to get confirmation, both barrels fired... and the muzzle preassure wave threw him ten feet back as it washed over the outside of the turret. The turret itself had been repurposed from a ww2 era Swedish protected cruiser.

Axel Alvarez too vulnerable and expensive to waste that much steel, fuel and crew on a vastly outranged, inaccurate and obsolete system that would be sunk before it even got into sensor range to detect an enemy ship long before it's own main weapons could reach. All battleships are capable of in a modern context is shore bombardment and as a base of operations for pirate hunting. And both roles can be better executed by a carrier that requires the exact same support fleet assets to protect.
