@MrMaboboz the idea of having people in shows that "represent" everyone is a nice thing in context, what makes it Grotesque is that it is everywhere nowadays. I wouldnt question a lot of it if it's in context, but too often it isn't, and it goes out of it's way to even replace anything white male straight.
Take some examples, The Expanse is a far future tv show with a lot of diversity. It made sense, it wasnt contrived or put one group over another in some batshit hierarchy. It was natural and felt in place.
Another example, the Star Wars recent movies, same sort of premise, far future blah blah, but it did the diversity aspect very poorly indeed, destroyed the original characters and placed very poor examples of the diversity downplaying and denigrating anything white male normal.
It's the latter that fans are seeing with this new adaptation in LotR
