This is the age old argument. I suppose I'd have to answer with another question...just how on earth did we do things before all of these 3rd world immigrants came here?

Its actually a lot worse than this, here are some numbers. 1.4 million arrived last year. About a quarter come for work. Rest are students, dependants, asylum seekers. Of the 1.4million just 2750 of them came under the Global Talent Visa Scheme for the likes of actually high value entrants. In other words the amount arriving in total would fill a city like Glasgow, yet those who would make a meaningful economic or other benefit wouldn't even fill a street in that city.

@buntyhoven9163 the armed forces are bound to act on the orders of the elected government. They are unable (quite rightly) to act independently of the government. The blame is squarely with their masters in government.

Indeed, you end up with leveraged offspring such as Humza yousless, Sadman Khant, and Leo Varadkunt

What are your thoughts on Irish immigration here? Full disclosure, I am Irish, been here nearly 30 years but spent 23 of them in the Royal Navy.

@ravenhill_the_cryptic_of_1968 no apology necessary, I felt you probably meant that. More disclosure, I love the UK have 2 sons that I bring up to love it also....its hard at the moment with how much our leaders in all walks of the UK seem to hate it.

Funnily enough the Irish had a referendum on this in 2004 after the government at the time noticed a trend in babies being born to newly arrived Nigerians who were "visiting" the country. 80% voted that citizenship should NOT be given to babies born in Ireland to non Irish parents. Fast forward to now and the Irish government is handing out citizenship like methadone on a Middlesbrough Council estate. The Irish government have done this by bypassing the constitution through cabinet machinations and decree. It is yet another example (as if brexit wasn't enough) that referendum are pointless as long as the political will is blowing against it. They will always find a way round it.

Referendum is a complete waste of time, there are several examples where having them saw a dilution of their results or outright bypassing of the results through parlimentary motions. The Irish referendum on citizenship in 2004 and of course the Brexit Referendum being good examples. Its all well and good having these things but the WILL to follow them through, and the LEADERS to implement it, and the PEOPLE to trust but verify (as Reagan once said) are what is required in the end.

Neil is bang on here. The liberal progressive view on this is that all these migrants want to be "like us" and have the same opportunities as us in our society. They do indeed want our opportunities, but the majority that I've come across want to be nothing "like us" at all. This varies from a quiet disdain for our values to outright violence against them. To the lib-prog gang, this appears to an acceptable trade for their assertions as to why the rest of the society they are coddled in should be sent to the knacker yard.

Remember the Armed Forces are bound to follow the orders of the Elected Government. They are unable to act independently of the government.
