3:38. Context matters. Patton was assaulting soldiers who were ill in a field hospital, while Rodmistev was trying to break the lieutenant out of the catatonic state he was in while on the battlefield. This condition would have likely resulted in the death of the lieutenant and his men. Patton physically assaulted soldiers twice and would gladly have done it again, while Rodimtsev said he never wanted to do it, and would never do it again. A similar thing happened on Tarawa during the first day, where a Marine officer kicked a soldier in the soles of his feet to get him to regain his focus on the task at hand. Men sometimes freeze under the stress of combat, and it often takes shaking them or some other stimulus to break their stupor. This in no way compares to what Patton did in Sicily.

@juanpaz5124 Because sometimes people are actually being serious when they say these things. One never knows...

8:00. Really nice that you can actually place where this photograph was taken. It vividly shows everyone what the city looked like at this time, and the conditions the two armies were fighting in even as early as September 16. It really brings the battle to life.

15:05. Again, great to see on the map where these photos were taken.

37:33. Great. Shift commanders around so they are now not only dealing with officers they have never lead before and little time to organize, but they are attacking a dug-in enemy through terrain they haven't had time to check out. Brilliant! NOT!
