Well, Hitler started out as an early age as a Catholic (due to his mother's influence), but by the time he was a teenager he dropped it, following his father's beliefs that it was a weakening force in one's life. So, was he a Christian? No. The direction he took in life and his contempt for Christianity shows that he was not a Christian. He neither talked the talk nor walked the walk.

@davidburroughs2244 I think you missed my line, "So, was he a Christian? No." Would you call Josef Stalin a member of the Orthodox Church because he studied in a seminary to become a priest? Again, no. Just because they may have received varying degrees of Christian teaching and doctrine does not automatically make either of them Christian. As Christ said, "It is by their acts shall ye know them". I do agree with your statement that Hitler did what he thought was best for Germany/Germanic peoples. After all, he wouldn't have gone to the lengths of creating Nazi versions of the wedding ceremony if he didn't.

@michaels4255 Just a quick correction - you don't pay dues to the Catholic Church. You make donations, but this is completely voluntary. Also, Hitler despised the Catholic Church, claiming it made Germany weak, and planned to eventually replace it. He just never got that far.

@michaels4255 Well, Hitler had to make concessions to the church because many Germans were Catholics, as were most Italians and many other allies. You wouldn't want to antagonize a large chunk of you population. Even so, some 10,000 nuns and priests were killed by the Nazis, and people like Niemuller (I know, a Lutheran, but nonetheless ...) were incarcerated. So his "affiliation" with the church was more political in nature, mollifying a large chunk of the citizens to prevent uprisings, than anything else. This goes in the category of "Learn something new every day". I never know about the "tithe" on churchgoers in Germany. We don't do that in this country, and I'm not aware of any other nominally Christian countries this occurs in either. I wonder if it's a holdover from the Reformation. Thank you for this interesting fact.

I do disagree with TIK on this, Hitler was mad, or perhaps more accurately, in the grips of mania. Megalomania and paranoia are such wonderful things to have. Hitler had both. If the consequences hadn't been so tragic for over 50 million people, it would be almost laughable that he saw the Jewish people as creating capitalism and marxism, two mutually exclusive and conflicting ideologies. It conclusively showed that if you are a paranoid bigoted megalomaniac, logic need not apply.

I think the reason Chamberlain caved in at Munich is because he, like the other British elites, feared the Soviet Union and Stalin more than they feared Hitler and Germany. I believe that they were trying to use Germany as a counterweight to the Soviet Union, seeing how Hitler said that he despised Communism. Chamberlain was also incapable of understanding what sort of person Hitler was, unlike Churchill. It may be that, in part, Churchill realized that Hitler was a dark, evil reflection of himself.

@electronworld4996 I'm not arguing with that either. I suspect there were a number of reasons that Chamberlain didn't want the war (lack of preparedness, war weariness, national debt, etc.). However, I also think the political aspect (isolating Marxist Russia) also played into the mix.
