  1. TIK, I think you are using the wrong terminology here. One can be an individual yet be altruistic. Are you calling philanthropists socialists? Are you saying that religions that call on people to think of others as being socialist organizations? I think the terms you were searching for are more along the lines of individualistic (not self-interested) and herd/mob mentality (not altruistic). And cults/extremist socialism does rely on a herd mentality (subsuming your will to the mob or group) to succeed.
