  1. I just find it amazing the amount of juggling of forces Paulus has to do just to mount an offensive and try to keep it moving. Had Chuikov been aware of what was happening on the other side of the line and had a couple of reserve units available, he could have really upset the Germans. But that is just another "what if".

  2. I am surprised that, based on the maps, the Germans have actually taken the crest of Mamayev Kurgan and moved down the slopes to the railway line. Is this correct? Almost every account of this battle I have read seem to indicate that the Russians and Germans basically fought to a stalemate at the crest of the hill, and the Germans never managed to get down the east slope. Just goes to show how much has been missing from the accounts of the battle up to about 20 years ago.
