9:50 This is ignoring the fact that at the same time the Red Army would have attacked all around the perimeter to try and break the now-depleted defense lines. This might have meant that if the breakout failed, 6th Army might not have had a defensible position to retreat to.

The other question is whether 6th Army had the food, fuel and ammo to actually stage a breakout by November 27th. For any breakout to succeed, Paulus would like have had to concentrate all his remaining panzers at one point of the line and launch an all-or-nothing attack. Then there is the issue of transporting everything needed to sustain this offensive. If the current war in Ukraine has taught me anything, it is the importance of logistics and, perhaps more importantly, sustained logistics. Yes, you can launch a massive attack, but if something goes wrong does one have sufficient logistics to sustain the effort or side-step opposition? I would tend to agree with you at this stage the Paulus lacked the men, fit fighting units, supplies and transportation to maintain any sort of offensive action.
