  1. One other thing that undoubtedly contributed to Germany fighting to the bitter end was the knowledge that you didn't know who you could trust. If around 1/3 of the people you work with are likely cultists who will turn you in for being defeatist, are you going to risk trying to organize something? In addition, for frontline soldiers, they may not have been ardent Nazis, but there is always the issue of the comradeship that soldiers develop on the front lines, and the very real feeling that you "don't want to let your buddies down". I think the phenomenon of Germany fighting to the bitter end was probably a bit more complicated than "all life is a struggle, so we must fight". However, after reading memoires of many Germans, one does get that feeling that many Germans felt superior to all their opponents because they were born to fight and defeat their "enemies".
