Given Sweden's somewhat isolated location (access to international trade was mostly via the Skagerrak) and proximity of hostile neighbours, I would say the had few if any options. Their diplomatic position could be compared to someone in an armlock being bent backwards over a barrel - you have few choices. One thing their delicate balancing act did allow them to do was be in a position to act as mediator and go-between for peace negotiations, not only between Finland and Russia, but, as I recall, as a potential conduit for Japanese attempts to negotiate an end the war in the Pacific. The one thing in Sweden's favor were the iron ore mines, which gave them a bit of a bargaining position.
