Two reasons. First, even though there was a lot of German air transport, a lot of it was tied up supplying the front lines in Russia. It was the only way the Germans could keep their spearheads supplied. Second, for an army that considered itself professional, logistics was one of the least studied and considered one of the least important aspects of warfare in the German Army. Time and again you hear of the German Army running out of supplies, and this is why.

Just remember it was Monty who gave the Australians a lead role in 2nd El Alamein. Say what you will about Montgomery as a person, at least he recognized talent and put people into positions where they could fully show their abilities. Unlike Auchinleck, who managed to tick off all his best commanders.

Agreed. Not only that, but he kept promoting bad officers to positions of authority.

Wait until you see the mess Auchinleck made of the First Battle of El Alamein before you say he was gifted. You may just change your mind, considering how he almost blew the whole thing. There is a reason why Freyberg, Moreshead and the other competent commanders ended up not even talking to him.
