  12. My mom just made a slurry with flour and room temperature water so it was very quick to make the thickener. We had a Tupperware shaker that was great but it isn't needed. As long as the water is room temp or cold, you won't get lumps. She'd do it in a glass and use a fork to mix it when we weren't using the shaker. You do need to boil the stew after you add the slurry so you cook off the flour taste. Your dish looked great, Carol. I would so eat that on a day like today. It is up to 25 degrees today so I guess I shouldn't complain. Lol.

  20. Hm....I wonder if I could get away with using my half-and-half. That would give it enough fat, perhaps. I don't usually keep heavy cream or buttermilk. I only buy them when I know I need them.

  35. Sounds like a good idea. I may look into doing that when finances are better for me. I don't think I'd want to tow around a trailer--even if it's only from storage to the LTVA--but I could probably hire a driver for a short job.

  47. I used Sweet Baby Ray's before I went DIY and organic. It's definitely the best non-organic brand out there. Nowadays I buy organic and spice it up or just make my own so I can avoid high-fructose corn syrup and GM-sugar. I've never seen ginger ale added. That's an interesting touch. If using that type of cooker, I would have flipped the chicken pieces before adding the BBQ sauce. That didn't seem to be much different than cooking it in a skillet, tbh. It all looked yummy at the end, though!

  49. We were much more "civilized" and safer when everyone was allowed to carry firearms for self-defense. Very few people messed with anyone else because even the criminals knew the law-abiding citizens were armed. It kept people honest. This is how it should be, for better or worse. I would much rather live in a world where everyone was honest and no self-defense was even needed, but that's not our current experience here on Earth. 😔
