I hear if they're ceramic-coated they're not bad at all.

I try to take care of the next mechanic -- me!
1
He's been nagged about it before, and I think he's aware of SureShots and the like. I suspect someday he'll get around to that.
1
This time the BG fluid exchanger rocked so hard I could barely hear Ray! Awesome!
1
It's Florida.
1
The phone noise drove you out, didn't it?
1
Ray, since you have an oil filter cutter, why not open a filter for us someday?
1
The lube at 3:10 is probably Permatex ceramic extreme brake parts lubricant.
1
The internet got good, the software got good, the video web hosting got good, the GoPro camers are great -- but having so many good LED work lights around really made these videos great!
1
Huzzah!😀
1
Spending more than it's worth is an emotional decision ,_and that's okay_, as long as you realize that's what you're doing. Also, if you keep driving it and don't sell it, no big woop. If you were to spend a bunch of money to fix something and sell it three months later, yeah, then you don't' get your money back.

Search for "3M Roloc bristle disc."
1
@gregoryking9348 In which case I'm wondering how old the vaccum line/hose to that regulator is at this point, too.
1
There are special paints for such things, here in the US SEM Products is the company specializing in quality paints for that kind of thing. I suspect a lot of folks just give it a stab with regular spray paint.
1
I think that was steel, just didn't have holes in it like the old one did. Different design, I guess. Protection during shipping was handled by the plastic cap that covered both sensor and threads.
1
I tried to buy Plastigage at Advance Auto a few years ago and got a great big "HUNH?" response.
1
Dangit, Ray, you use that Snap On trim-rivet prybar for so many things I had go out and get one!
1
If I were a one-handed videographer mechanic, I'd sure be using a nutdriver on hose clamps.
1
Yes, that was nice. Wiring harness? Hose? leaning up against the filter, kind of a bummer.
1
@gratefuldale117 You remember all that, but do you know where your car keys are now? 😃
1
REEEEE You didn't do this job while wearing a white lab coat!
1
That pole is mounted in commercial/light industrial areas to monitor the populace and see if anybody's saying DOO DE DOO DE DOOOOO!
1
Eric should fly to FL for a paid vacation, working on rust-free cars!
1
Sprayway glass cleaner is good stuff, and when that case runs out, it's cheap at Wal-Mart in the house-cleaning chemicals aisle.
1
Whenever you fear he might be wavering from the path, just say DO DE DOO DE DOOO at him and he'll know...
1
When race car engine builders build their motors, I hear they do it in a "clean room." I think this means people come in with dirty old shop rags and shake them about, and use air guns to blow dust off of things, and clean things in there, since it's a nice quite place to clean things.
1
Or green masking tape? I wouldn't worry, I'd guess at least one of those eight cylinders has its valves closed.
1
Oh, next you'll be telling him not to put the intake manifold on the floor.
1
Wot, no cabin air filter change?
1
Restore shitty old Volvo, 0.2 hr.
1
@MrWoodyBalto You are correct, sir! Step one is, "Don't own a car with a sunroof."
1
The owner might want to look into OE-quailty replacement upholstery for those seats, from The Seat Shop in Plano, TX. You can get normal work truck vinyl, or, for money, the same but in leather. Good stuff! They also make a good, firm bottom cushion for some vehicles.
1
So did you fix his mother-in-law's driveway?😄
1
More precisely, they drive you nuts with their continual neglect of maintenance!
1
Install power steering pump brackets, 0.2 hr.
1
REEEEE that wasn't a full turn I don't see the UPC barcode! (Meh. If it seeps, you can tighten it some more with a tool. A fancy tool.)
1
I've been watching your channel about a year, and all of these transverse-engined V-6 (and V-8!) cars make me very grateful for my cars -- transverse 4, longitudinally-mounted straight 5, and straight 6. These transverse V-6's and -8's just suck!
1
The Cabinet of Dr. Raymond's Future Minor Spills.
1
It's an option! Me, I got a whacking great gutter nail, sharpened it up on the grinder, and with a hammer, punch a hole into the bottom of the filter and let it drain for a while, or overnight. Sometimes a second hole needs to be punched to eliminate glug glug or let it flow better. Either way, it reduces sploosh a lot when I finally do remove the filter.
1
@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling What? The perverts have established offices now? This has gone too far!
1
A country diff actuator can't survive.
1
Hey, wait a minute! Some jerk put a coolant tube in the V of the motor! I sure hope it's metal, and not some kind of plastic that will "last for the life of the engine" or rubber hose. Weirdos!
1
I bet the short and snappy answer is, "That's how the new seal arrived!" but that raises the question, why does it arrive that way? I'm guessing having the seal pressed in already and having the other gaskets pressed in makes it faster for the mechanic, and higher quality (no damage to seal from sub-Ray mechanics tapping with hammers badly.)
1
@utidjian What impresses me about Ray is that he's a generalist doing all sorts of brands, and is doing it well. Give an old Ford mechanic a Taurus to diagnose and replace X and they'd of course find it easy, but Ray's finding it pretty easy on many things.
1
@emanuelparedes9187 I used to use scraps of paper in the baggie, too. And some Ziplocs have a white surface to write on. Since I like to reuse my parts baggies, I like the paper slips/PostIts now. Context of all of this discussion is bigger jobs. The smaller the job or the more you're familiar with this vehicle, the less you need it. Also, I'm convinced some pros do like Ray but don't quite get the right bolts and screws back into the right holes! Maybe I'm paranoid from working on German cars, but I'm paying attention to length of screw or bolt as they come out, you never know when they're gonna do something weird on ya!
1
Neat! I just use a little sandpaper or Scotchbrite -- but I'm not in the Rust Belt.
1
Huzzah! The return of the Milwaukee demo saw!
1
With those miles, maybe, with those plugs, for sure!
1
I noticed very few Hondas back when you worked at the previous shop. Maybe Hondas are having fewer problems? Maybe Honda owners are more likely to go to the dealer and pay too much?
1
@dotar9586 That was my first thought!
