Damn show offs

France has its problems too. CDG had it's own teething issues, a French nuclear sub caught fire not too long back. Its just an issue of the complexity of modern kit and the lack of focus an actual war brings.
8
WW2 carriers were as big as battleships. It wasn't size that was the issue it was weaponry.
8
Lasers is an example, but it includes other forms of electromagnetic radiation.
8
@philiprowe7452 It's a Royal Navy survey ship. There's no contradiction in having guns and being a survey ship. It not trying to be something it isn't, your just sounding dumb.
8
Why do you think a liability, even when countries that aren't spending a lot are adding extra military forces not taking away and everyone pays a share of the NATO budget.
8
@Hillrunner768 there are certainly some countries like Luxembourg who contribution is next to nothing but the risk there is also next nothing. And that isn't over half of countries.
8
Not really, they aren't metrics that are particularly useful in deciding if an F35 wins a fight.
8
You haven't even given them the whole season, but we'll keep supprting them after that as Ukraine need to be at least secure for a reasonable negotiation.
8
The two aren't mutually exclusive. Launching your hypersonic missile from an undetected location closer is a big advantage.
8
I'd like to see a report of Russia taking mainland Europe in 5 days? That was the kind of thing talked about with the USSR + Warsaw Pact starting in East Germany. It's laughable from present day Russia on the other side of Poland. If Russia could run a decent democracy it could start integrating with the rest if Europe, til they we're not interested.
8
@kamilszadkowski8864 What do you think the lesson from WW2 is? This isn't Germany attacking anyone.
8
It's why we work with others like this, though we have quality we don't have massive numbers, but together we have quality and quantity.
8
The question is why were we still there?
8
Not sure where to ask but. Where's the Lib Dems?
8
Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania all border the Ukraine. It is NATOs backyard as much as Russia's. It is the Russian belief it should dominate it's neighbours that is the problem.
8
The point is you print them when they are needed?
8
@1chish we spend money on our armed forces not a NATO armed force. Not being in alliance with Germany for example just means 10s of billions of defence budget we're not allied with, it doesn't save us money. Other nations do Baltic patrolling. Even if they don't do there fair share, they do some work that we don't have to.
8
@datonaone why? I'd prefer to protect our industry than our pride. We build 15% of each F35. In total that's the equivalent of 450 aircraft. Build our own and we wouldn't even get get 138 we plan because of all the extra we'd need to spend on R+D.
8
A no fly zone would mean full scale war.
8
@flaggnerd The Italian are assembling some, the Japanese some. Most in the US of course. The UK is building 15% of the parts. Lockheed is the prime, but BAE for example is building more than 10% of it (some of which is BAE in the US). Defence industries are so intergrated now.
8
@squirepraggerstope3591 it turning a weakness (the exhusts) into a strength (survivability). Good practical engineering.
8
I believe all the Merlin's went to the Navy. Puma is only a temporary replacement, ultimately they want something lighter than the Merlin as despite being classed as medium it's pretty hefty.
8
all the major navies are building carriers. The US, China, India, France has just started planning there next. You appear to be sucking up Russian propaganda. Russia aren't building any because they are too skint to do so.
8
Tech is what allows us to compete, we'll never have the numbers and training can only go so far.
8
Other the HMS PoW?
8
It was the exciting jet of my childhood. I'll always have soft spot for it.
8
@meme4one Not even close to US vs Russia. The aid the US has sent is tiny compared to even it's yearly budget and its only sent a limited set of equipment. And Ukraine was invaded invaded by Russia, stop the bull about about it being US.
8
@willw8011 not even close. Something like visually flagging an unresponsive aircraft can only be done by a jet. Seeing from the air is a big advantage, so moving to engage a threat before it gets close.
7
@monsterg4603 coming if the back of decades of world war preceded by Empire. It is a world view rather than a UK centric one.
7
It clearly doesn't have enough weapons.
7
The Russian ruling elites like the benefits there wealth brings, NATO doesn't want a war on that scale. It works for neither side.
7
The sympathy and help isn't for the government it's for the average person.
7
@soumyajitsingha9614 It's a STOBAR aircraft when it's on a STOBAR carrier. There is no point in having options when you aren't going to use them. Vikrant for example doesn't have the heat resistant surface QE has to protect against the F35Bs downward thrust. Similar QE doesn't have arrestor wires. Both would be reasonably easy to add but pointless. Catapults are difficult to add, though QE was designed to be adaptable say at the midlife refit.
7
Technologically its drone development these come from so drone in the name makes sense.
7
You can't annex something that's already yours.
7
Silent about what? JEF is about JEF nations.
7
It's a NATO mission not an EU one.
7
I presume you mean top brass, because NCOs and low level commissioned officers fight and are key to the quality of our force.
7
@elitecoder955 Because armour is being stockpiled near the border. He has option in the goal but major war will involve armour.
7
The same as what? Russia travel near the UK all the time. And Turkey is an ally.
7
The channel is run by BFBS, a charity whose main purpose is to provide tv and radio to British forces around the world but it also does somethings to inform others about those forces. Its independent but does get most of its funding from the government.
7
Even those against the EU were generally for NATO. Happy to fight together, just may be not administer together.
7
@markojovanovic1750 we're not threatening Russian sovereignty but ensuring the independence of it neighbours. No NATO member is stupid enough the consider an invasion of Russia. But without NATO you get Russia willing to act as it has in the Ukraine or Georgia.
7
@Amen-Magi again, I gave an example of NATO countries not following the US blindly. As another point, other NATO nations than the US have there own nuclear weapons.
7
They do, and there is no regret. It's all about information.
7
The EFP's were original just trip wires, not expected to hold but to ensure NATO was at war. But given Russia's efforts in Ukraine frankly any invading force would get shredded by NATO airpower.
7
@farzana6676 Nice of you to proclaim your ignorance.
7
Great clip, I'm reassured by King Charles III service and his heir to follow.
7
You haven't understood the concept of a carrier group then.
