Trump wasn't batter for asking countries to spend more, as you said the common, before and after. But for threatening not to fulfil article 5. He chose not to reiterate the commitment at the beginning of his term. The unity of NATO is more important than the spend.
7
We could happily keep a 100k army with a weaker Navy and Air force. We choose not to, as an island...
7
The only full scale war envisioned is defending eastern Europe against Russia as part of NATO. In that context continental Europe will provide the tank numbers. If we were somehow fighting alone we be turtleing on our island and it's the Navy and RAF thats key.
7
@happyhap7207 not about that the video was just wrong.
7
I think we'd actually be more capable of an op like the Falklands as it didn't involve large numbers and out tech is much advanced.
7
8:00. Oh yeah, we might have some in the UK too.
7
Houthis aren't fighting for Palestinians, it's having no effect on Israel. Trade routes are an essential, they don't just effect the rich but everybody in there cost of daily living.
7
@TheSkunkyMonk Did you notice this video was about a jet taking off from a carrier? Which the SU35 doesn't do.
7
What makes him a token black guy and not just a black guy?
7
@johnallen7807 Currently an army that we can deploy quickly and support in the field is more important than numbers, hence the mentioned strike brigades. Also your Waterloo numbers were a large part allied troops.
7
Which is it, Afghan or Syria, they are very different in terms of UK involvement?
7
@sigmaputin6888 that's parliamentary democracy, nothing strange there.
6
Ian Simpson why would you transport a large number of soldiers to the UK rather than a few trainers to Kenya?
6
Hardrive33 it lacks a bit to the A though not the key stealth and sensors part. But A's can't fly from ships.
6
They punched well above there weight, rolling over half of Europe. Ultimately they ended fighting 3 powers with much greater resources.
6
Why, it wasn't charity, it was a business deal.
6
@bl8danjil there's no suggestion of a pilot, suicide is in the context of drone, the defining part of which is no pilot. This doesn't stem from a missile, it's not a missile designed to persist, it's a drone that's been weaponised.
6
It's choice not impossibility. P9lands choice, neighbouring Russia, is different to ours. (It's also worth noting it's Poland's army that gettingbthemmassive uplift, that is the least of Britains military)
6
The building that is a fleet headquarters? Not many innocent people, you don't have to be on the front line to be complicit. But yes innocent people die in war, it doesn't mean the war isn't worth fighting. Also incidentally killing civilians isn't a war crime, only dilberatley killing them.
6
The French Navy has more people in it, given automation this can be as much of a sign of being old than better. The RN is larger by tonnage (by a long way with the RFA) and in key asset, SSNs and Carriers.
6
I don't know why you think tanks define an army?
6
@colonelangus8247 what outcome? Ukraine was never going to win straight up but by bleeding the Russian over weeks and months.
6
It's a survey ship, what's your point?
6
@philiprowe7452 seemingly, you can't understand to concept on a survey ship with guns
6
I didn't mention specific nations. But regardless your comment illustrates your lack of IQ.
6
No. The UK has appropriate carriers. We aren't that big but can deploy some power across the world. We happily work with the US but also with other medium navies like France, Italy and increasingly Japan. Not being a superpower we are quiet capable of losing a war, but no one is taking our home islands.
6
@PavelPavlov-hj3lx That's exactly the type of thing I'm talking about. Adding extra forces for collective defence is still an asset rather than a liability even if they are half as large as they should be. Nor is it about leaning on the US, rather its about generally feeling safe, countries away from Russia didn't feel threatened with or without US support. Countries near Russia have tended to meet the guideline (A guideline that was designed to be moved towards rather than immediately achieved).
6
To all those who want much larger numbers, first we need the proper support for the numbers we have. And frankly that will take all the money we can get when every department is looking for more and we are already spending money we don't have.
6
@happyhap7207 India has a very good navy, but it still behind the UK and France. India is catching up on carriers but still behind on the other key SSN/SSBNs.
6
Because they have access to actual information unlike random guys off the internet. Plus you then have a video to hold them to account to latter.
6
@TT-hd3zi Not in the fight, but for overall effectiveness yes. For now we just need jets but tankering will be something to look into once we have numbers.
6
@MrGuyJacks helping them to create a stable country would be a way to stop unwanted people.
6
it will end non descriptly as it always does.
6
I'd guess it's because they need more practice of vertical landings. But also remember they look cooler on videos.
6
It's the fifth gen aircraft that are the big factor.
6
Anything we are getting now like this or the carriers is a prebrexit decision, military projects take time. We'll see in a decade what Brexit brings. Generally though the military constantly get news kit and updates, it not really that special.
6
Troops is a bit less formal so more easily covers people like pilots or medical specialists.
6
@SplurbBat Nothing innocent about Saddam's regime. I was referring to post invasion, but there was a time when it was getting support from the US and the Soviets.
6
No, they weren't, we sent 14?
6
@uioplkhj at the request of the Afghan government l.
6
They don't run them, they store them.
6
Great workhorse, I hope future ships are as good.
6
Our Canada spot is absolutely huge, a fifth the size of Northern Ireland. That simply isn't something we can replicate here.
6
Nice picture, flanked by the Typhoons.
6
Its travelled to the otherside of the world?
6
Because it is only an opinion and one that has effect in a democracy.
6
@barenddutoit9794 Stalingrad, and WW2 in general, wasn't anything special about the Russian winter soldiers just them dieing in huge numbers to achieve victory.
6
@MyAqaa The last budget was an increase.
6
An astute has been confirmed.
6
There are cheaper missiles avaliable, the type 45 is getting CAMM added. But air to air off a helicopter might be a good option.
