  2.  @rclrd1  No they don't, they change one particular protein via mutation then that may involve recognition by the immune system. If it's new enough, the immunity is not there. COVID is new, no one has immunity that is why it is so devastating. People who have had this new virus have gone one of two ways, recovery or death.

They are, we are in the middle of one right now. That viruses can mutate? They do. That Spanish flu killed up to 100 million? It did. They don't know, biological mathematics is not the same as having a crystal ball. They build models and run scenarios. What scenario do we have? 382,000 deaths in 3 months. Over half seasonal flu deaths globally in a quarter of the time AND (the part you keep failing to acknowledge) WITH lockdown. Deaths in the UK from seasonal? Average given as 17,000 with lows at 2000 and highs at 28,000. COVID deaths is now at 39000, in 3 months, WITH lockdown. USA? Seasonal 26,000-83,000 (ball park, some variation here) COVID? 108,000 in 3 months. WITH lockdown. Is this sinking in yet?

  6. @KehOfAllTrades KehOfAllTrades It only has to be as lethal as seasonal flu to be an issue. Why? Because it's new, NO ONE has immunity, no one is vaccinated. You get it and you either react immunologically and get over it or you don't and die. A % of those that recover have impaired lung function, this has been reported in the medical literature. Rather than quote mine 15 year old articles and tabloids, read the scientific literature.

It's easy to look at predictions from models and say they are wrong after the fact. What is is you are really after in this? Insults/joking aside. A crack at the models and Imperial? Ferguson's teams? That they are not good enough? Not even NASA are without major screw ups, Hubble lens? Appollo 13? Challenger? These guys are the best we have at the moment.

  8. @KehOfAllTrades KehOfAllTrades Herd immunity was an option, let everyone get it? Yeah sure but the number of deaths was not the only issue here, there was always the NHS capacity issue. We did lock down and prevented that. An inundated health service would prevent far more cancer /trauma and transplant ops. I may lose my job trust me I am not happy about the situation either but the choices were always going to harm the economy either way. Glad your nan got over it.

  17.  @shamadooee  You also have to bear in mind that anti body tests are quite sophisticated, usually involving some molecular biological test that run over night. Superfast kit available possibly? Don’t know but it will be no where near as fast and sitting down getting a jab. The vaccines are available and COVID is out there it need to be reduced to seasonal flu levels then we can work out who needs to have boosters.

  32.  @winstonsmith1515  It's all in Google scholar for free. Plenty of studies on sera/polyclonal antibodies and neutralisation of the variants. The thing is the conspiracy/ bill gates/ G4 guys are focusing on the WRONG issue. There ARE concerns in the Scientific community but they are nothing to do with anything I've seen on the net. What's the problem? Evolution. The vaccine can cope with so many mutations and still be effective, at least with severe disease that is the hope. If an unexpected twist happens in terms of virulence via mutation then it's a matter of running to play catch up. Data is promising so far regarding severe disease however.

Notice the break points where you get branching and about halfway through you get a geographical distribution.   37.  @dominicsteward5595  Most vaccines are based on attenuated forms of the virus, Phizer isn't. That does not matter, what you need to understand is how your immune system works. Encountering an antigen for the first time is not the same as encountering for a second time. You can die from smallpox, polio, COVID19 first time infection. With a vaccine you not only greatly reduce your risk of dying you also have much less chance of getting sick and passing it on once vaccinated. How? This is because anti bodies have been primed and are already fighting the virus when you encounter it via an infected person or surface. It cannot damage many cells in your lungs and other tissues quickly enough to escape anti bodies. So this means you do not get as Ill AND allow the virus to use you as production mill to make copies of itself to pass on and keep the cycle going. Just Google immune system wiki. If you have a clear argument regarding these claims I can recommend a website that is policed by scientists and academics. Physics forums. It's free, go on there get free membership read the rules and say hello. Then you can ask your questions. Just be clear with your sources, citations.

  42.  @dominicsteward5595  This is my last post because you have to do some work on your own. You have some basic misunderstanding on immunity and disease. Viruses make you Ill because they damage cells. They damage cells because they stick to them, then incorporate it's genome into cell and use it's machinery to make copies of itself. If it does this in your epithelium of the lungs you cannot breathe properly. That is ONE way COVID19 makes you sick. Obviously a vaccine in your body cannot stop a foreign antigen getting in. If someone with COVID19 breathes in my face and I inhale that mIst of vapour there is a good chance a virus will enter my lungs. Vaccinated people have a prepared immune system, via various cell signalling antibodies disrupt the virus cycle before it gets a chance to make you ill or kill you. Do you understand?

  46.  @davyjose1978  Nope, that was not the concern at all. Firstly there was a worry about supply, the NHS was going to be overwhelmed at a time policy was going to implement mask wearing. That proved correct, the NHS was overwhelmed with staff pushed to the max overtime holidays delayed AND extra masks required. The last thing we needed was supply to the people who needed them most being compromised. Secondly there was a concern people would get a false sense of security and practice risky behaviour. I know how to wear a mask, I have been wearing them since the 1980s, the general public don't that has been obvious since the start of this despite updates from the government. Plus we have unqualified people on Facebook who think a quick Google is the same as an education in Science, it isn't. Severe illness is low whilst vaccine uptake is high although cases are going up. The vaccine is working. Masks work, sanitizer works social distance measures work. It's not difficult to work these things out. You could make up your own Science? Is that what you are doing?
