I still think that the EU is a net benefit despite its shortcomings.

5:05 As a minor nitpick, I don't think it can be called "irredentism" if any kind of Kurdistan doesn't exist as an independent country. It's just separatism.

One thing to consider is that the emotional motivation for having children probably has (like many things) a genetic component. I contemporary society such genetic trait is probably more evolutionarily favored than in the days of yore. That will likely also put some upward pressure on birth rates, albeit at rather slow rate. At the very least, low birth rates will almost certainly not threaten the existence of the human species.

Why would the police side with the truckers? The truckers broke the law. Also, at least according to one poll about 69% of Canadians opposed the protest with only 27% supporting it. Note, I'm not commenting on whether the truckers were right or wrong in either their goals or their methods. I'm just saying that you don't need any kind of state surveillance explanation for why they didn't get support from e.g. the police.

Our lives are quite luxurious compared to those of our ancestors.

@katarzynalpzm0arajko-nenow32 The boom may be just due to the medical profession being better able to diagnose autism today rather than it being an actual increase in cases.

I wonder if this means that, if Israel hypothetically manages to make a lasting peace with all its neighbors, the Palestinians, and others (e.g. Iran), then future Israeli generations would see their birth rates fall noticeably.
12
I've heard Austrians do the opposite and want to differentiate themselves from Germany.

@minestar2247 "absence of evidence is not evidence of absense" This is just a general point and thus slightly off-topic, but absence of evidence is evidence of absence. It may typically be very weak evidence but it is evidence nonetheless.
11
@CovocNexus "the voting power in a democracy should belong to those who will fight for the country" Why should it? Btw, in the US this criterion would also disqualify most men also.
10
Similarly, Austria and Australia should form a union to avoid confusion. Same could go for Sweden and Switzerland.

@TheJoelef Propably a large portion of the French speakers in France can trace their lineage to Gauls even though their language was supplanted by Latin long ago.
9
@InqvisitorMagnvs Definitely better than in South America. In Africa, there would probably be a lot of variation depending on who you were enslaved by (assuming you would be staying in Africa).
9
@kingcletus1310 I'm not sure it was really necessary.
8
"Either you were a Mandarin or you were a nobody." At least in Korea, people coming from farmer families could take the equivalent exam as the Mandarins had to pass in China and thus had a tiny chance of joining the elite but people from merchant families weren't allowed to do that.
8
"No society in history has advanced much and had women's rights, even those who were more equal." What are you talking about? It's clearly the more equal countries that are more advanced.
8
It's subjective. Different people are interested in different things.
7
@neznamtija8081 Do Persians count as PoC?
7
That kind of "revolt" is clearly not what he was talking about. Also, I suspect most people choosing to not have kids aren't doing it as a protest.
7
@blugaledoh2669 "how would an effective conscription of women work?" You can probably get your answer by looking at Israel. Israel has mandatory military service for both men and women, though for women it's a bit shorter. For men the minimum length is 32 months; for women it's 24 months.
7
@whippinsaw "Over half of small bussniess owners have an associates degree or higher." Remember that correlation doesn't always imply causation.
6
But it's not actually engineered. Many harmful societal trends aren't planned at all but just result from things like coordination problems and human failings.
6
"I really thank you for mentioning how the EU, in its current form, is very inneficient. Either less or more integration, but its literally in the worst state possible" I have to disagree with you here. For all its failings, the EU is still more efficient that having 27 individual countries negotiate with each other separately. It's easy to see to problems with the actual status quo and less easy to see the (what I think would be worse) problems with an alternative hypothetical status quo.
6
But that doesn't apply to all STEM. It's possible to have more students of theoretical or computational physics, mathematics, or computer science without special equipment of facilities.
6
@EmmaKing30 "Kenyan police & special forces are providing security services in Haiti." I had been wondering why it was Kenya specifically providing the police force sent to Haiti. Is this the primary reason why it's Kenya (aside from the fact that it probably couldn't be a Western country due to historical reasons)?
6
@sleeper9638 Do you have a source for that claim?
5
3:33 Does Eritrea really see itself as democratic? It hasn't had any (national) elections during its independence, not even sham elections.
5
@gregb6469 "Most Europeans think more like subjects and serfs than they do like free citizens." I don't agree with that at all. It's quite common for people to e.g. have strong (and varying) political opinions as you might expect "free citizens" to have. Most don't think of themselves as "subjects" or behave like "serfs".
5
One could make jokes about how the Turkish flag has a waning crescent moon on it.
5
@denecroxford2475 "Kosovo, as well as Albania, have majority Moslem" And Bosnia as well.
5
@IronymousYT "England needs a Reconquista." What specifically would that entail?
5
Mars already has two poles...
5
You could argue that Austria should be counted as a part of Eastern Europe since its native name literally means "Eastern Realm".
5
Russia likely won't be a significant military threat to these countries for at least a few years since Russia's military power will be temporarily depleted due to attrition in Ukraine.
4
@neznamtija8081 What's the criterion for counting as white? Also, not every non-white is automatically PoC, e.g. east Asians.
4
Europe has seen much less war than in the past. Also, this video was more about things like civil unrest rather than interstate war started deliberately by politicians.
4
One thing to add is that a declining population at least makes dealing with climate change a little bit easier.
4
@coraliemoller3896 With Austria you could have 9 more states to bicker with!
4
I think such advancements are still pretty far in the future.
4
My understanding is that in France the native population also has a higher birthrate than the native populations in most other European countries, so it's not just immigrants and their descendants. Unfortunately, I don't have a proper source so I'm not 100% certain.
4
@katarzynalpzm0arajko-nenow32 "I don't think that the majority of cases are genetis" According to twin studies it has a high degree of heritability.
4
@JcoleMc "How does that prevent revolts ?" Because it a) provides large amounts of young men with at least a measure of economic stability so their incentives to revolt are smaller and b) does it in a way that takes away the excess free time which a factor that can also breed restlessness.
4
"The Jewish groups that have religious bans on work seem to only be possible with the charity of the larger majority basically paying them welfare." I think they're supported by their women working rather than by welfare.
4
At least economically the situation for Eastern Europe has been improving.
4
@Nordbon1523 To me it doesn't because he doesn't pronounce Ds as retroflex.
4
"not a word about NGOs" Well, that's just plainly false. They're mentioned at 22:50.
4
"There is if you only use incomes of young people." Do you have a source. This is something that has to be actually calculated from statistics, not just asserted based on personal observation. (Of course, same goes for KaiserBauch's claim.)
4
Both cases were total disasters for Uganda and Zimbabwe.
4
@kaiserbauch9092 Just hoping that technological development will solve climate change is wishful thinking. There is a need to cut some consumption. Even in the case of adopting new technologies putting a price on emissions is necessary to make these new technologies to make more economic sense, as they might be more expensive than more emission intensive technologies absent emission permits or carbon taxes. Most economists agree that there should be taxes on negative externalities. See Pigouvian taxes. "that is not happening in Europe with all the bans and regulations" The part of the video I commented on talked about emission permits and duties on emission intensive imports, not bans or regulations. Whether or not Europe will be innovative imposing a cost on emissions is the right way to reduce emissions.
4
Did the title change from "utopia" to "dystopia"?
