  1. These types of videos can never be made accurate representation. Let's just first assume there was no sampling bias to start with. If of 20+ interviewed, half of them expressed more or less of the same, while the other half are very varied with interesting perspectives, video is going to look boring with no effort when half of the footage sounds repetitive. So, most shared sentiment often aren't shown to be. And if of those 20+ interviewed, if one of them managed to express well with very unique and intriguing perspective, he will be given a lot time despite he "represented" 1/20. These types of videos are interesting to watch, it's also nice to know how others think but they aren't a gauge to any bigger picture.

  4.  @csm1986  Where did China's manufacturing tech came from? It just fell from the sky? Taiwan's factories in China making American dollars paid by U.S. corporations was what created jobs in China. Job opportunities in turn allowed for more disposable incomes which then allowed more domestic business opportunities to provide goods and services that goes beyond just not starving. Just wait till everyone moves out. China get to keep what it had already stolen but no more. You will witness how it go.

  5.  @csm1986  Kenya has low cost labor. Why isn't it being developed like China was? China had dirt cheap labor during the 50s when Mao starved everyone to death. Why didn't that help China's economy?

  6.  @csm1986  Free trade? So China opens up and suddenly it has valuable stuff to sell? What? Jade? Oil? No. It was "made in China" goods. How did that start? China signs WTO and suddenly everyone knows how to make products for Sony, Nokia, Nintendo, Motorola, HP, GE? Who was making those products before they were all made in China? That's where those manufacturing tech came from.

  7.  @csm1986  It's not assumption. I actually know people in real life who had made millions when they moved Taiwan's manufacturing to China in the early 90s. They were forced by U.S. corporations to move manufacturing to China. Not due to lower labor costs ( as they had informed their U.S. clients that one Taiwanese can handle job responsibilities that will take 4 Chinese to do, and it's better to continue manufacturing in Taiwan, then there's additional training time that all adds to costs ) but Americans perceive how logistics of future businesses will be. Much like how Steve Jobs insisted Apple products be made in U.S. of A, but Tim Cook convinced him they have to make it in China.

  10.  @csm1986  Huawei, China's pride. Runs on what? Android by Google, processor by Qualcomm which is fabricated by TSMC. TSMC, Taiwan's pride, but who designed those chips? U.S. companies. China's role in supply chain can be replaced, by splitting those up to India, Vietnam, Mexico, wherever. U.S.'s role and Taiwan's role can't be replaced, that is, China can't ask Iran to set up factories in China to replace Taiwan's factories and then sell those products to North Korea instead of United States.

  12.  @csm1986  Dude, I have noticed China does not publish nationwide unemployment rate anymore. It publish only unemployment rate of nationwide urban areas and unemployment rate of people 30 or younger. Even then, those numbers are probably bloated, and they still look very alarming. It doesn't look good. Wait till Taiwan's full exodus takes effect. You will see.

  14.  @csm1986  Ah yes, suicide at workers' housing. What did Chinese government do about it? Nothing. Because CCP needs Foxconn to keep providing jobs. What did Foxconn do about it. Not much. However, Apple then forced Foxconn to certain work environment standards because that news caught on in America and Americans weren't happy about Apple "letting that type of stuff happen". So, Apple, an American company, had to enforce work environment standards IN CHINA due to pressure from AMERICANS. Yeah, Chinese work environment improved not because CCP passed laws to protect Chinese from factory bosses but because Americans refuse to buy products from slave labor and American companies do not want their brand value tarnished by being associated with slave labor. Now, can you see why "evil capitalism" somehow always managed to improve everyone's living standards while socialism always fail?

  16.  @taoliu3949  My issue with legislative candidate was not Taipei vs Kahsiung. It was KMT should have gotten 0% for that nasty stunt they pulled instead of some 30% they got. I was saying point difference between cities in such scenario was utterly meaningless. Because they were people who were furious but they were also people who weren't even aware of it. It wasn't like everyone were aware but had different opinions. So a better comparison would be recent public votes.

  17.  @taoliu3949  Yes, there are counties that are very blue. But what will be the odds of that dude's sentiment being featured here if this was done outside of Taipei? There are blues who think RoC is dead if it is not KMT in charge. There are blues who think RoC had been hijacked by DPP. There are rare pure blues who are anti-communists anti-Beijing, identify themselves as Taiwanese but are not fond of DPP. Etc, etc. But how many on our entire island recognize mainland still being part of RoC while refusing to recognize DPP's candidates as legitimate leaders of RoC? Probably less than ten.

Yes, it's people who vote. If we let only people of Kaohsiung vote, what would we get? No, no, no, and no. If we let only people of Taipei vote, what would we get? Yes, yes, yes, and yes. What outcome did we have? No, no, no and no. And your conclusion is it's more skewed in Kaohsiung?

Okay, now, how many people in Taiwan are aware that peace or war is not up to Taiwanese, it's up to CCP, since defending side can't start a war. A good chunk of our population. How much of that sentiment is represented here? Zero. Why? Okay, so let's just assume this was done in Kaohsiung, how do you think this video would turn out?

  23. Not really. There is an even older advise to go by: Si vis pacem, para bellum. You don't get to choose if a thug would rob you or not. The thug gets to decide. Not you. But you can discourage him from acting on it by letting him know he will lose an arm and a leg if he were to act on it. Taiwan did try to be nice with China during Ma era. Taiwan practically helped build China to what it is today by moving our manufacturing tech into China. What did we get in return? Threats. We were never under threats we face today when PRC was dirt poor. "Peace" with Chinese Communists can only be achieved by making it crystal clear that war would be a bad option for them. The very second Chinese Communists think Taiwanese will avert war at all costs, they will invade.

  30. Current situation, different sentiments, and where those sentiments came from is very complex, but if you are talking geopolitics, it's very simple. It's like after patriots took North America mainland from British government, they founded the country as United States of Britain. And then claim all former territories of British Empire, Singapore, India, all of it, including British islands itself, belong to U.S. of B which is the new British Empire. Despite they never governed or even step foot on any of those territories. And the world let them.

It is because United States is an authoritarian regime which the government had the foresight to build those things? That's not the relationship between public and the media for countries like Taiwan and U.S. For countries like ours, media are just private businesses. Yes, its owners and editors can have their own political inclination, but in the end, they are just businesses. So, if they provide contents which the public do not like, they go out of business. They stay in businesses by giving the public what they want.

  48.  @FHK_88  I didn't say you think a war will happen or will not happen. I'm saying, whether Taiwanese want war or not is meaningless, because that choice is NOT up to us. Whether Chinese want war or not is also meaningless because they don't have civil power to elect leaders who would serve what they want, so it's not up to them either. It's all up to CCP's choice. No one else's preference really matters. CCP isn't going to go, "Well, Taiwanese seem to not want war, so maybe I shouldn't invade even though I really want to."

  49.  @FHK_88  I'll try to explain myself a clearer way. For relationships such as Malaysia and Singapore, yes, an approach of sustaining current peace to avert war would be fine. Since potential war is nowhere to be seen even in the far horizon, it'd be nice if this peace is kept. However, China wants to take Taiwan. That's a very different relationship, and the approach should be averting war to sustain "peace". So how do we avert war? The very second I let a thug know I really don't want a fight, he will rob me. I need to let him know he would lose an arm and a leg if he tries, even if he succeeded. That will discourage him and buy me more days which he put that idea on pause. Me preferring he wouldn't rob me, is meaningless.

  50.  @FHK_88  I am not asking you or anyone to take any side. I am simply pointing out whether us Taiwanese want war or not is meaningless. Since that CHOICE is not up to us. Taiwanese don't have civil power to elect a president of China who won't invade Taiwan. So it doesn't matter. We can only avert war by making sure China won't have the capacity to start one. There is no other option.
