  2.  @boudewijnb  I get it, you want to act like trains are superior all the the time. They aren’t. Once you get pass maybe 400 km, the flights are just so much faster overall. To use a train long distance, you need a direct HSR and those are few that are long distance and they cost a lot of money. Most people would rather spend 4hrs waiting at airport and flight time for 100 euro than 4hrs total for train but 200 euro

  3.  @andrewaldrich3602  well, as others pointed out there are different types of farmers. Owning and running a large farm requires a lot of experience and intelligence. Running a small farm or being a farm hand doesn’t require as much complicated thinking. There aren’t many small farms in the US anymore.

  5.  @doujinflip  100% true. China did have a brief moment when they created a large navy that was headed by Zheng He in the early 1400's. Then they quickly ended that. That navy reached India and even Africa but they saw no financial justification for it since they believed (with merit) they have enough goods & resources either in 'China' or can be obtained by land trade. The Europeans lacked a lot of resources so they were always incentivized to build a navy for trade and protecting trade.

  6. I’ve always seen Florida as 3 parts: the “southern” north (northern FL has southern culture), Miami area (densely packed, lots of immigrants, lots of young people) and then the rest of the southern half of FL (retirees, middle class people who want boring suburban life).

  7. Overall a well balanced and thought out video. Mexico is indeed prime to be the next China, though 1/10th the population. But the Mexican president AMLO is actually a hinderance on that as he has been somewhat anti business in many policies. He certainly isn't doing much to help which was highlighted in the video. With the right president and federal government, I think Mexico can realize that potential and start seeing big improvements to the economy. The time is now for them to act. 10 years from now, the dust will be settled and it will be difficult for Mexico to gain new industries at that point. So glad the Mexican states are taking on the responsibilities to attract the factories.

  16.  @Ushio01 you can’t get a fully working transit system without raising money and that’s what congestion tolls do….raise money for public transit. And New York has amazing public transit with buses everywhere and trains near most people. That said, it’s not remotely accurate to say no one is affected. All policies have losers or else they would have been policy along time ago!

  17. Yeah, it's not a low cost airline anymore. It's middle of the road costs but good value as you can pay the same price as the other middle cost airlines but get 2 bags checkin and easy cancellation or rescheduling.

  18.  @TerrySitu  No it's not hard to compare GDP between countries. It's much better to compare GDP than ignore it. What's your evidence the US inflates GDP when the process is very public and can be fact checked by others? It's also not run by the president...unlike China where it's very secretive and serves only Xi or the head of the party. In addition, many studies show China is likely greatly exaggerating their GDP growth year in and year out

  19.  @swissfreek yup! Company I worked for did 90% of business in agricultural and construction equipment. I’m actually surprised there aren’t more major players doing both in high volumes. The insides (cabins) look very similar with similar equipment inside them. The major differences are the attachments but often those still have lots of similarities that it shouldn’t be a problem for one manufacturer to jump from one to the other industry. I’m guessing it’s mostly a history of marketing and name recognition in those industries that is a barrier to some from jumping to the other industry

  21.  @LENZ5369  Those figures? You mention how much ONE safari might bring up, no mention of how many trophy hunting safaris there are per day or per week. Therefore it's not very relevant to say a trophy hunting safari can bring in 15k to just 1k for non-hunting safari without mentioning how many of each are happening. I went to safaris in Kenya and trophy hunting is illegal. I'm not sure how accurate it is but I looked up Tanzania and they generate something near or over $2 billion in total tourism spending from and $0.2 billion from trophy hunting so it's only 10% of total tourism. The trophy hunting figure was total spent while they were there so not just the fee for the hunt. "And as I already said; MORE people means MORE infrastructure; which means MORE destruction of natural habitat." Without reasons to monetize nature, they will not protect nature. That's how it is -- especially for poor countries. You must be some extreme ideological type that doesn't care how the real world actually operates.

  29.  @interrobangings  yes, but Taiwan has now for decades stopped truly trying to claim they are “THE China” which is why 22yrs ago (2002) they officially recognized Mongolia as independent country. They only stick to claims of South China Sea that are mostly the same as China purely as to not give China any leverage.

We do know China beneifted heavily from WTO. But you're overall point that one factor was to push China in the right direction. But what OP said was also correct though I think misleading. US and many WTO member states wanted China in the WTO in part with hope it would push China to improve on human rights. This was a common belief at the time that did have some success stories. What we have found out since then is that such hope on human rights reforms doesn't work on two types. One are the natural resource rich countries that can just find buyers in the global market. If country A doesn't want to buy oil or gas, they can sell it to country B at roughly the same price. Think Russia, Saudi Arabia and other oil states. The other type is the country with a large domestic market that is less dependent on other countries for resources and who's large domestic market is a bargaining chip they can use against those trying to get them to reform. Think China and increasingly India.

Maybe read a bit into it Additionally, though it isn’t 100% certain but is what Japanese government has argued, they could use their military to help defend Taiwan because Japanese govt claims an attâck on Taiwan is a danger to Japan’s security 🇨🇳 does a lot of things that go against their constitution by finding ways around it. Isn’t there freedom of speech and press in the 🇨🇳 constitution?

Which do you think? And there were 12 cases of mass shootings in 10 years going into the year of the new gun control. It would be 20 years before another mass shooting. Are you saying that it still not enough data to determine that the gun regulations lead to a sharp decline in mass shootings and murders? Also, what is your opinions on guns? In summary, are you saying you cannot determine anything if there 12 incidents in the 10 years up to 1997 then major reform to address those incidents, then 20 years without any incidents?

That’s why I’m asking for you opinion on guns — it’s highly likely you are very bias in favor of guns. Well, that’s more likely than the researchers and experts who reviewed the research are all wrong. And if you won’t reply about your opinion on guns, I think that is a strong indication you have a very pro gun view

  41. I think it was the NYT podcast The Daily that had an episode on this mess, specifically focused on the system used by SouthWest. If I recall correctly, many employees including middle/upper management had been warning Southwest corporate executives that their system is flawed. What wasn't mentioned in this Wendover video was how difficult it was for Southwest Airline employees to call in sick or call in to say they can't make the flight -- it all had to be done over the phone with no computer system to handle it. So when some of those flights started to get cancelled and the staff couldn't make their destination in time to for the next shift, a large number of employees were calling in but the phone lines were flooded so they waited hours to speak to someone. This means Southwest wasn't able to reschedule the crew and thus they were often short of crew to work a plane. Add in the failures described in the video and you see why Southwest was force to just cancel all flights for a couple days and restart the whole process.

  46.  @unatrek2821  Americans have 50% higher cars (vehicles) per capita than the EU. Americans also drive more than twice as much as the EU per capita. So Americans have more cars and drive those cars far more than Europeans. Most Europeans do have access to a car (their own or a family shared vehicle) because they do need it on occasion but for most it’s not an an everyday need, unlike Americans.

So of course Americans like cars when policies built up roads and neglected or removed public transit options.

And Europe was falling in love with cars as well post WW2 but since the 70's, they have worked backwards to remove cars and spend more on public transit. US continued to tear down train lines or stopped spending on new public transit while they increased spending for cars.

Certain categories attack people ready to spend on that category and finance category is one of them. Perhaps travel category is another one?
