@NewsGuyFred you get it. I don’t know what Carl Johnson is going on about. He won’t clarify his comment.

@zinjanthropus322 gdp per capita is a much better way to measure wealth of country than nothing at all — which is what you used.
3
@zinjanthropus322 europe was ahead of India and China in the 1500’s on ship building and design, weapon’s innovation, and early forms of capitalism. India and China had the natural resources but Western Europe made up for their lack of natural resources.
3
@Snipsnop260 no one is excusing colonialism mr .50 yuan. In tact, the opposite— europe was driven by being poor and just wanting to feed its people. Your link to gdp is just a population history map. Would you call India a rich country today and Singapore a poor country today? That’s what you’re suggesting by using gdp
3
@Snipsnop260 you’re using the same tactics as .50 yuan club. No one is excusing colonialism so nice strawman. You used total gdp to suggest Western Europe was Poor thus you suggest Singapore today is poor. You also ignore that Western Europeans had the innovation to build the best ships and the best weapons and the economic infrastructure (early forms of capitalism) to finance much of it. So what is your point then? No one here is defending colonialism so why spread mis -info on the rest of the facts?
3
@zinjanthropus322 “you’re measuring nothing. Against nothing”. They’d literally what you are doing. I’d rather trust academic researchers than a random guy online who says “trust me bro”. Western Europe had some of the best weapons in the world due from innovation from all the wars. They had the best ships - a the first capable for long deep sea voyages. They were innovators in banking and financing in part because of Italian city states and but also Netherlands and hansa league lead to creation of early forms of capitalism. And China did build and scrap larger ships ONE time and those ships required staying near the coast. They were not suitable for long deep sea voyages. So, why should I trust a random guy online and not the academic research?
3
@kindauncool Yeah, AA-RON is kind of uncool with that comment.
3
@kindauncool "And another thing that this video might be good for is somebody trying to quickly educate somebody else" His videos often have issues and tend to be more focused on story telling than complete factual reporting. That said, if you at least are aware of that, this video and some of his others are a good starting point in learning about those topics.

This blanket statement appears everywhere. Is there even a human behind this account?
3
@Thebreakdownshow1 hello King!
3
@cosmicgregg seriously, even if ignore all the Allied countries that US never did a coup in, you will find many examples of those identified in the video have favorable opinions of the United States from Mexico to Dominican Republic to chile (no actual coup by US but it was mentioned as possible) to Brazil to Panama to Guatemala to Vietnam to etc. the general opinion of these mentioned in the video is favorable towards the United States . Are you a far leftist by chance?
3
@cosmicgregg well, “lack of countries” isn’t even accurate. You mentioned 37 countries which seem to be from Pew. But also, Latinobarametro polls thousands of people across nearly 20 Latin American countries and they find the same. Heck, even Venezuela in 2014 before the crisis made polling difficult had favorable opinion of the US. There is still is some anger in Latin America and it’s mostly driven by the authoritarian leftist which is why I asked if you were a leftist. Many Latin American countries with leftist leaders who are anti U.S. still have a majority of the people having favorable opinions of the US. It’s not that the people in those counties forgot, it’s just no longer that important today considering the US isn’t (rarely) meddling in Latin America in recent years

Loved the writing on this one. The different versions of you having a discussion should be a normal part of your videos where something is complex with good and bad sides.
3
What is this, a crossover episode with Atlas Pro & Johnny Harris?
3
I think the Bahamas was the first island

The Swiss have to take a side now. They get all the benefits of being protected by the EU member states and NATO. That the reason they stopped caring about the bunkers — they have good neighbors who offer them protection simply by by being peaceful to Switzerland and being a buffer from outside forces.

Another misleading video. It was mostly right but as usually it makes the US look a lot worse than reality. For example, The “dictator” in Iran was actually very progressives and expanded women’s rights and tried very hard to improve the economy and help the poor. He expanded education etc. But yeah, just easy to say he was a dictator and leave at that. Also, the ayatollah didn’t care that the US helped over throw a democratically elected leader in Iran - he was upset that the dictator had given women so many rights
2
@jaidenm9456 regardless if the people did not favor progressive policies, it’s not a reason to hate on him. It should be something positive when leaders try to make a country better. And the repression under the shah was very mild compared to before and after the shah and compared to other Mid East countries.
2
Why should Chile be included? There is no real evidence that the US was a major player if at all in the coup? We do have evidence the US wasn’t involved — literally White House tape recordings and notes showing Nixon unaware and surprised by the coup. I’m guessing you’re a far leftist?
2
Yes, I knew 95% of what's in this (well, maybe not much about the deeper dive into the components of the chips) but it was great story telling with great use of visual tools.
2
@ it should have reformed after the fall of USSR? But Russia still existed and was still being aggressive to its neighbors
2
@Jashercapital Yes, that is why few empires if any lasted as long as the Romans. China is tricky because you basically had a bunch of different states in the region but all of the same culture ('Chinese') so when one got taken down, the replacement continued the culture. But Roman Republic and Empire basically held from 700BC or so to 1453 AD. But in terms of true power, they were probably from 250BC to 1200AD so that's better range if you want to include the Byzantines. Many of the historically popular Empires had a short stay as powerful empire before collapse. 100 - 300 years seems very common in the middle ages and before. Something's changed since the middle ages with many countries or states around in the 1500's still around today.
2
@Oldmanplum The most powerful and advanced countries were able to come together and form a system that drastically decreased the amount of war and invasions in the world nearly 100 years ago because society evolved. The world mostly the same from 1000BC to 1400AD. Then there began to be more advance weapons and more support for ideas and thinking-- the renaissance. The progress was slow but you slowly saw early forms of capitalism that changed societies. Capitalism ideas likely spurred from the effects of the renaissance. Then the big changes happened with the Industrial revolution. People began to concentrate around cities creating more opportunity to share ideas. People also began to get wealthier and new industries meant less and less to Kings as people who weren't in the noble class began to become more influential and this included workers. With all these thoughts about democracy and rights, when WW2 happened and much of the world realized weapons were too powerful, they were in position to come together and forma a system that drastically decreased the amount of war and invasions. Wars of conquest all but disappeared in the west and other parts of the world. Most wars after that became wars over territorial rights among bordering stats or a civil war. And a lot of the civil wars were drawn along the lines of communist vs non-communist. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, those civil wars became far less common as communism began to die out. What did increase was the rise of Islamic groups starting civil wars and starting in 2011 a rise of the people against authoritarian governments such as the color revolutions. But it's the series of events that evolved society to get to the point where the world could decrease war.

@juancarlosnegron2358 the part that is true is that most Americans buy fake bread and fake bread is far more common. However, most large grocery stores (supermarkets) now have bakeries in them. Most ethnic grocery stores have Bakeries. One issue is that because it’s still a minority of the people that buy fresh bread, US doesn’t have economy of scales and has high price expectations which lead to fresh bread prices about twice what they are in Europe from my experience
2
Good quality bread in the US costs twice as much as it does in Europe in part because economies of scale and price expectations. In Europe since everyone buys bread a few times a week and they have expectations the price will be below a certain amount, you end up with good bread at half the price of the US for comparable bread
2
@hegaliandialectics4289 so now you’ve completely change the discussion. I was arguing with you on the democratically elected communist leader statement you made. Also, most of the time US imperialism didn’t end an ideology? To paraphrase Austin powers movies quote, “the Cold War is over. We (capitalist) won!” Or do you think communism loss out because it was a horrible ideology? Either a Terri or ideology or US imperialism did defeat communism.
2
@hegaliandialectics4289 why can’t you stick to honest conversations? Why state incorrect things that we can easily go back to the earlier comments proving you wrong?
2
@hegaliandialectics4289 you literally wrote “had communist leaders democratically elected” and I asked you to name all the examples of democratically elected communist leaders and you named people who were not. So why can’t you stay honest?
2
@tzenzhongguo Liberators? So terrorism is liberation? "Taiwan govt is puppet govt just like Japan & South Korea." You just mad that China's economy will never reach their level of per capita wealth. China's economy is STRUGGLING. The average Chinese will forever be much poorer than the Koreans, Taiwanese, Japanese. And defending Assad of Syria who dropped chemical weapons on his people?? nice...... It really does prove your values.
2
@tzenzhongguo "all US friend nations are puppets " Of course Beijing worker would say. Beijing so upset that China economy doing so bad and average Chinese will be forever much poorer than South Korea, Taiwan and Japan.
2
@tzenzhongguo Yeah, world would have been better if Imperial Japan was allowed to keep China. I agree.
2
@CJONTHEHOUSE funny how you CCP apologist had trouble with johnnys video on China and then you come here to spread mis -info such as suggesting Singapore is poor while India is rich in order to defend the false claim by Johnny that europe was poor in 1500.
2
@Snipsnop260 china and India had lower gdp per capita than Western Europe did in 1500 and much lower than Western Europe in 1600. In 1600, only Iberian peninsula was heavily involved colonizing. Europe was indeed poorer than China during most of the Middle Ages but by late Middle Ages and early modern period Western Europe had been going through a renaissance, innovation in governments and economies, and just overall innovation such as ship designs and weapons.
2
There is lots of good bread in the US in major cities but they cost at twice what it cost in Europe. Besides the fact that europe has economies of scale and strong competition for fresh bread (since almost almost everyone buys fresh bread a few times a week), there is also a price expectation in europe for bread. As a few other pointed out a contributing factor may also be that US living more spread out (especially suburbia and rural America) means a significant number of Americans limit their shopping. This may have influenced culture as a whole because I live in a densely populated area of Chicago and there really aren’t any corner bakeries near me — the large grocery stores have bakeries but they are 10min and 15 min walk away from me. In Europe these small bakery shops are everywhere!
2
@abdifatahali4733 OH, THAT'S COOL. I'M ON ADDERAL SO THAT'S WHY I'M EXCITED.
2
A tax on hope FROM the poor.
2
The “elections” were announced a week ago and two days ago they knew today would be the day Putin will speak about it so it’s not too much a coincidence this was released around the same time the annexation was publicly announced
2
@Lana-ro6cb but it’s about hundred such buying decisions we make each month.
2
@godimedia1239 you eat salt by the bowl
2
Outsourced it because it was too expensive to make in the US. Taiwan was still poor in the 80's so labor was cheap.
2
Unlike your amazing 🇨🇳 where Assange would have been put to d8ath day one
2
What would happen to Assange if he did this in 🇨🇳?
2
3:00 Johnny has the best hair and beard I’ve seen
2
People who life under constant threat tend to normalize it and act like it doesn’t exist. So no surprise at the end of the video South Koreans act like there is no concerns about North Korea much like Mexicans live their lives as if cartel violence doesn’t exist even though it does exist.
2
Great video. One of the best I've seen on this topic. Things won't change for the reasons mentioned in this video -- congress has self-interest AND it would be hard to police any policy unless there is a blanket ban on all trade for congress which would seem a bit authoritarian. Raising awareness of each trade is certainly a step forward.
2
This was a great episode! I caught it a few days ago on Nebula but there is no comment section there so I'm here to read comments. I did want to add that given the US and west sanctioned Russia with full force, a partial blockade of Taiwan by China will likely now be met with strong sanctions against China. In addition, the US and Japan and maybe others would have a navy also patrolling Taiwan's water so the partial blockade would be ineffective -- or else China will have to shoot at US and Japanese naval ships. But they don't want war with them.
2
Are you legally allowed by your govt to acknowledge what’s going on in western China?
2
@WideAwakeHuman psychology most certainly is a major factor. That’s why central bankers and leaders are carful how they present info. And much of what you describe is a benefit In the long run though some aren’t of course.
2
@Oraceon Yeah, I like Johnny's videos but I use them only as a starting point. They are often one sided and remove lots of important context. Occasionally, but less often recently, they are straight up incorrect things in them.
2
@Christorment5 The video literally explains how Joe has people with 'highly controversial opinions and allowed to speak without being fact checked or without any pushback.
