  3. The term 'homophobia' did once mean something but it didn't mean 'gay hate' as it does now. In the 1970s gay men invented the term to describe the hatred felt by closet homosexuals or bisexuals of their own homosexuality, which caused them to feel and act violently towards out gay men. A useful term, misused now by the 'regressive left' .
