Perhaps young people simply no longer want to spend days sitting in mud and crap.
19
Pretty hard to dig up great swags of Australia's most sensitive alpine National Park and NOT be an environmental vandal.
19
What's this crap about everyone being held up by 'those choosing not to get vaccinated'. Complete spin on the truth. The country is being kept closed by those who demand everyone be vaccinated. And that is GOVERNMENT.
19
The irony is how can Labor possibly expect to meet its silly emissions targets when they are bringing in an extra million people a year. Consumption of everything increases, and consumption creates waste and emissions, FACT. And they will never change.
19
@alli3219 "but that does not mean transgender rights and women's rights have to be at such odds with one another." On the current points of contention eg. woman's sports, women only spaces, the way women are being described by the 'woke' brigade ..... these issues can only EVERY be at complete odds with each other, and no nicely written comment is every going to change that biological fact. Respect is a two way street. If trans people want to be respected, they too have to respect the rights of women. And the overwhelming majority of women do not want biological men competing in their sports, walking into their change rooms, etc. It is something they simply DO NOT WANT. And these beliefs need to be respected.

Quote of the day from Kerry Chant, when asked by Andrew Clennell "what are the range of underlying health problems associated with the reported deaths from covid". Answer was reasonable e.g. cancer, lung damage, etc. etc, and significant obesity. Andrew then asks, "so when you say a person who dies with serious underlying health problems, that includes significant obesity". Chant answer: "No". So in summary, significant obesity is one of the most significant reasons for someone dying from covid, but it's not a health problem. Don't you feel better now, knowing these people are looking after your well-being.
19
Don't you feel really safe knowing you have health experts to look after you with advice "if you are feeling sick, stay at home". Seems when I was 6 year old my mother was a health expert, I just didn't realise it.
18
Jut like the Australia Post CEO, this guy should go also. I've worked for quite a few very large corporations. Every one of them had formalized and documented bonus schemes, with clear objectives agreed for the next 12 months in order to qualify for the various levels of bonus. Not a single one, none, zip, zilch, handed out fancy presents to senior executives on an informal basis and called it part of the 'bonus system'.
18
Gladys, the hospital system, paid for by ALL taxpayers, exists to support ALL taxpayers. Taxpayers don't exist to support the hospital system. You are the person responsible for allowing the NSW hospital system to be in its current run-down state. No one else.
18
Why do you need a new poll? For decades the overwhelming majority of Australians have opposed high immigration levels and the idea of a 'Big Australia'. Successive governments have simply given a 'middle finger' to the wishes of the majority, and nothing has changed.
18
Shari, you are pure evil. What don't you say look at Denmark, Sweden, and a whole raft of other European countries getting on with their lives without the need for the extreme discriminatory and authoritarian measures you are promoting. Listen girly, there is not a single medical reason for vaccine passports, NOT ONE. Got it!
18
Appauling comment Peta. You should be ashamed of yourself.
18
The idea that there are insufficient Australians with the necessary intellect and desire to become doctors is actually insulting. My local GP once told me all you need to become a doctor is a good memory. He said Engineering was a vastly more difficult field. Over the years I've met any number of doctors I thought were VERY ordinary intelligence wise, and left a LOT to be desired in their grasp of the field they were practising.
18
Probably the best and most accurate summary of the Liberals current problems I've heard. That the NSW Liberals did EXACTLY the same as the Labor governed states of Queensland and Victoria in response to covid is the perfect example of they are exactly the same. Morrison at a Federal level was handing out free money that put Kevin Rudd to shame.
18
This guy is a classic, accusing others of nasty politics by spewing out nasty politics on a constant basis. His clown mate Albanese does the same.
18
This bloke is just a naive fool. Making owning rental property LESS financially attractive to investors will simply exacerbate the rental crisis by having less rental properties available. These same renters can't afford to buy the property due to government policies e.g. artificially low interest rates during covid, unsustainable immigration, government regulations that add massively to construction costs, and allowing investment properties to be part of a SMSF.
18
An excellent talk explaining some of the finer points. My only criticism, when on watched this on TV this morning, is that Rowan kept interjecting half way through the experts explanations and concerns. FFS Rowan, let the expert talk, we've heard your thoughts on the matter a thousand times before.
18
Doc says she sees lots of young healthy people getting sick, and they are obese. Is that what is called an oxymoron?
18
Matt Canavan is absolutely correct, it was the Labor Gillard government which failed to heed the advice at the time major overseas contracts were being signed, and set aside a domestic gas reserve on the East Coast. The relevant state government at the time, Queensland, was also a Labor government with Anna Bligh at the helm.
18
As others have said, the involvement of police in enforcing the outrageous denial of basic human rights during covid was a PR disaster. What's the current recruitment criteria (a) are you a thug, (b) do you believe in the unquestioning power of the elites, (c) do you revel at the thought of harassing children for not wearing a mask ....... If so we have just the job for you.
18
Interesting that the unfortunate lady had Diabetes is being played up, but had she died from covid where diabetes is a well established major risk factor, no mention of her specific medical condition would have been made for privacy reasons.
18
I don't want immigration "paused". I want it completely stopped PERMANENTLY. Australia is already overcrowded. Houses for young people are unaffordable, roads are clogged, and the environment is being trashed with endless new housing estates. I want to see the population slowly and naturally REDUCE back to a sustainable level, say around 20 million MAX!
18
The threat to out way of life has taken on such proportions, all across the Western world, its hard to believe it's growth has been some 'organic' thing. Hard not to think there must be state based actors behind it.
18
Sharri, if you knew anything about covid and the Delta variant it would be painfully obvious that even a fully vaccinated taxi driver wearing an ineffective surgical mask, confined for a period of time with two or three covid infected overseas flight crew in a couple meter square space with no fresh air inside a car would be a near certainty to pick up the virus. Whether the taxi driver was vaccinated or not would likely have made ZERO difference.
18
Julian, as you supported 'the voice' you also don't reflect the nation's values so time you went also.
18
"Tom Hanks coming to Queensland creates employment". Not a fraction of the employment and income that would be created by an open tourist industry with the rest of Australia. Stupid line of argument.
17
Andrew, a tip. Give it up mate, you're coming across as totally unhinged on this matter of Paul Keating's thought on the sub deal. It's just giving substance to his criticism of you.
17
The trouble is Labor can do a MOUNTAIN of near irreversible damage in the 2 and a bit years remaining.
17
Dutton has made a grave mistake for not straight out opposing the voice months ago like the Nationals did. By pretending to 'sit on the fence' waiting for 'the details', when all the details were clearly known (as demonstrated today), it has simply allowed Albanese to avoid having to debate key parts of those details. By not debating key 'details', the Australian public remain totally in the dark on this proposal. Some of the 'details' are so loopy, many ill conceived, and others straight out dangerous, the Australian public needs to be aware on these matters before voting.
17
So we are now down to filming people sitting alone on a seat using their phone without a mask ..... how truly pathetic this country has become.
17
Well she's the potential next President. There's a 'snowballs chance in hell' that Joe Biden will be able to last 4 years due to his mental capacity. Probably last 6 months at best, perhaps just trotted out occasionally for display like a scene from "Weekend at Bernies". Even from day 1 other people are going to be making all the key decisions. P.S. And just watch the chaos and infighting as all the backroom power brokers fight for control to be the 'puppet master'.
17
And you probably never will know anyone who will die from covid. If you take the number of reported deaths from covid, and strip out the people who have VERY serious disease to start with or were in the last stages of their life, in the current Sydney outbreak you could count on one hand the number of deaths that warrant further understanding. Singapore has had only 55 deaths from covid out of nearly 70,000 cases. Why? Because they take a very strict approach to defining a 'death from covid'. If the UK used the same criteria for defining an 'Influenza death' as it does for covid (died from any cause withing 28 days of a positive PCR test), there would be just as many Influenza deaths in a year as occurred with covid.
17
"Rules will be on for longer"..... Used to have a high school teacher who was also a psychopath. If someone mucked up in class he'd let them go home at the end of school and keep the rest of the class in. Figured the class was so stupid everyone would hate the person who had been mucking up. Even at 15 years old we just hated him.
17
Bob, you should probably add the local cement industry to your list. What clown would think cheaper clinker or cement produced in Indonesia, India, or Vietnam and imported into Australia instead of local production (which is what is going to happen) will make any difference to global temperatures? Chris Bowen I suppose.
17
"Bunker Down" seems to be the work of the day. Glady's WTF do you think the vast majority of people have been doing for the last coupe months, and are TOTALLY sick of 'bunkering down' aware that it is not going to change the end result. It may just drag it out a bit longer, but the end point will be identical.
17
The only vaccine number that has EVER mattered was the vaccination rate among the truly vulnerable. And that could have been maximized months ago. Everything after that has been pointless political theater.
17
In the morning they got their parents petrol powered car to drive them the 1 kilometers to the train station, forgetting to turn of their bedroom lights and left the air conditioner running. Then caught the coal powered 'electric' train to Central station, before walking further than they have at any time in their lives from Central to Town Hall. At least in my day there was something genuine to protest about, a real war.
17
Like the Nationals, the Liberals should come out NOW opposing 'The Voice'. The idea of waiting till the 'detail' is announced, which will never happen, it'll always reman vague because there never will be a detailed plan as the problems are near insurmountable, is just playing right into the hands of the YES vote crowd. Say you opposite it now, and over how many months it takes, keep explaining to people why you opposite, and make the yes crew put forward a compelling argument and debate it.
17
I lived for a number of years on Phillip Island. Easy to understand why there is a high divorce rate in that grey, cold, place.
17
I actually had thought this woman was better than Kerry Chant. However after today's daily 'lecture' when asked by a reporter about children in ICU, and she just completely avoided the simple answer (there are none, and unlikely to ever be any) and just gave a rambling bit of diarrhea response, she is just as much a liar as all the others.
17
So let me see if I've got this straight. The bloke who up till only a year ago, who for 3 years was THE person in Australia with the most power and responsibility for the well being of aboriginal people (Minister for Indigenous Australians), who had a MASSIVE aboriginal bureaucracy at his disposal, has done a hissy fit because he couldn't get things done i.e the need for more bureaucracy.
17
What would just establishing basic law and order be a "big promise". Strikes me as just a fundamental basic service of government.
17
The right decision would be to build modern new coal fired power stations, in conjunction with new gas fired plants. And yes, it would be wise to start building a nuclear power industry as well. Inevitably that is what we'll likely be forced to do when the 85% renewables BS finally collapses in a heap as was always going to happen.
17
She really meant to say "you", she has no intention of joining up to fight and die.
17
Peter, no doubt the current floods are a terrible event. But it is a VERY poor choice of words to describe them as Australia's "darkest hours" only 12 or so months after most of the corvid madness that affected the WHOLE nation and lasted 2 years has come to largely an end (still aspects continuing). The legacy of government covid madness will in some cases last a lifetime.
17
When I saw this program on TV this morning I thought to myself what mostly nonsense. He says the idea of wealth in the 1960's was just home ownership. Crap, there were millions of Australian's who owned a VERY modest home in the 1960's (and anytime prior to that) and were dead poor. Trying to raise a large family, one income, on relatively low wages. THAT was a typical family in their house in the 1960's. A black and white TV was about the only electrical appliance in the home. The only reason the definition of wealth has changed is because people are VASTLY better off today. 'Poverty' in the 1940's was being unable to feed yourself, today it isn't being able to pay your mobile phone bill.
17
UK media are currently reporting that documents put before the Victorian court CLEARLY indicate all Novak's paperwork was correct, and in fact he specifically had a letter from the Federal Government stating he did NOT have to comply with any quarantine restrictions and was permitted to move about freely in the Australian community during his stay. If the court finds on Monday this is the case, and the Federal Government has acted without due process or cause in cancelling his visa ....... then Scott Morrison is justifiably going to look TOTALLY stupid. He can then without doubt kiss the next Federal election "Good-buy" because the left wing media and Labor will have a field day. There is only so many stuff ups you can get away with, and Scotty from Marketing has well and truly exceeded his quota.
17
Scott, its disappointing, very disappointing, that you choose to comment on events in other countries. Work a lot harder and focus on doing your job in Australia, which you have been asleep at the wheel, especially your stupid 'national cabinet' of State Premiers. You empowered them, and they have done immense damage to Australians.
17
No Chris, they didn't "vote for the removal of the unfair wages cap". They voted for you to punish the LNP for its response to covid, and that it had drifted to the left.
17
A health 'professional', who covers her mouth with her hand when she coughs, wipes her eye with her mask one day, a tissue handed to her from someone else's pocket the next ...... giving advice on practices to stop the spread of a virus ..... classic!!!
