All
All too true.

Thank you <3

@GoodTimesBadTimes Congratulations, then! That's definitely a good excuse. ;)

So "self-propelled artillery" is actually a male tank? I didn't know there was such a difference between the sexes in this species. Truly majestic and inspiring. :D
4
@tristanbarton2959 I'm just the narrator. But from my reading of the script, just because people have cited it as an idea, it doesn't follow that the government is seriously considering it either publicly or privately. /shrug

Nobody should be living in Gaza. There's nothing there. It's basically a prison camp. Everyone should ideally be relocated to someplace worth living... but where? I have no idea. 😕
3
War. War never changes.
3
My reply to Russian threats to attack a NATO country (as joe citizen here in the USA) boils down to: "f*** around and find out." Probably a good thing I don't work for the State Department. ^_^
3
@zygmuntlllwaza5773 Biden comes across as far past his prime, possibly in the early stages of senility. (No disrespect to the man, but he's only human.) I think the Democrats nominated the weakest possible candidate among their frontrunners. They need a breath of fresh air (as you rightly say Trump was last cycle) and instead we get The System made flesh. Not smart.

It's hard to make a profit on hydrocarbons that almost nobody on earth is willing and/or able to buy. It'll be even harder after they have to shut down the permafrost wellheads and the taps collapse. Russia doesn't have the expertise to start them up again, and Halliburton et al have already left.
3
@paulc2548 I didn't make it up. Not sure where I first heard it. A Tom Clancy novel, maybe? Anyway, do share it around. ^_^
3
Hi there, CCP monitor! :P But seriously, it's all a matter of perspective, like most things in geopolitics.
3
I looked up 3 different pronunciation videos made by French people and tried to imitate them. But yeah... I've never felt so American, for better or worse. :P
3
@ricojes Thank you! It's actually stolen from the TV version of "A Very British Coup." ;)
3
@GoodTimesBadTimes He's not kidding. Nobody's sure how this works yet, but it's a BIG problem.
3
@Megalomaniakaal There are volunteers and "volunteers." Again, turnabout is fair play.
3
@GoodTimesBadTimes Completely agree. We made an incalculable mistake in downsizing our military in the 1990s. Some cutback was fine, but the "Peace Dividend" is bearing us bitter fruit indeed.
3
@Smytjf11 Supposedly they think that DLSS 3.0 is enough of a draw to keep gamers in their ecosystem. I currently have a GTX 3090, but unless something drastically changes my next card will probably be an AMD. I don't care how far behind the curve it puts me.

I've heard it said by sensible commentators that the transition to an artillery war favors Russia, as this is historically their best military arm. Hopefully the Ukrainian Armed Forces can withstand Russian attempts to systematically destroy everything in defended areas; after a certain point one basically has to either retreat or be obliterated in place.
2
I'm an historian by training, and that's mostly how I've heard and seen the country referred to throughout my life. However, now that I know better thanks to you and other commenters, it will not recur. :)
2
I didn't know it was rude. Please accept my apologies; it will not recur. :) I'm an historian by education, and most cold war sources and histories refer to the country that way; I always figured it was like saying "The Congo." Never really thought about it until now TBH.
2
@StuffandThings_ There's a world of difference between being a patriot and being a jingo. The former is praiseworthy, the latter ranges from pathetic to dangerous. It sounds like you're very much the former. ;)
2
Thank you <3

It was worth trying for a major breakthrough, but if the Russians have a minimal act together the Ukrainians are better off digging in and trying to bleed them white while minimizing their own losses.
2
That is indeed the word I said, and the one in the script Hubert wrote. Is it the wrong one? I admit I don't know much about soccer beyond the basic rules of the game, so I don't know what a "relegation" is. Please explain? :)

@GoodTimesBadTimes I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you can resolve your crazy people peacefully. We're failing pretty hard at that over here. :-/

If Sasha has any brains, he will embezzle a crapload of money into a Swiss account (if he hasn't already), vanish into a deep, extremely comfortable hole somewhere, and pull it in after himself.
2
@OttomanSultana Yep.
2
@OttomanSultana Feedback and suggestions always appreciated. ^_^
2
@NGC-catseye Unless you've watched one podcast on one particular gaming channel, then not on YouTube. :P
2
@st3pp3nw0lf86 I understand. I make tutorial videos for my day job, so I've developed a cadence that seems to work well for that. I'll try to emote a bit more without losing a sense of gravitas. Much as I respect the guy, though, I am not going to try to be an American version of Simon. ;)
2
And I was so proud that I didn't completely butcher the pronunciation... :P
2
lmao

Ukraine can't afford a 1:1 casualty exchange in the long term. They must inflict 12-20 to 1 to have a prayer of actually forcing the Russians off. This may be feasible, but it will be extremely difficult.

2
@KBergs They're vastly harder to put out, if I'm not mistaken. You can't put out an electrical fire with conventional means (i.e. lots of water/foam.)
2
@KBergs Cool. Does it still take shitloads of pollution to produce the raw materials to make these batteries?
2
@KBergs Primarily the process of refining lithium, not to mention the terrible practices usually involved in the mining itself. You seem to be very blinkered to stuff that occurs outside the First World. The environmental devastation is occurring in parts of the world that don't enforce their environmental laws. Most notably the PRC.
2
@KBergs True enough, but until the battery tech improves and the grid actually goes green, that's all it is: potential. I'm not saying EVs are a dead end. I'm saying the tech simply isn't there yet to be able to abandon FFVs.
2
Is that still a thing? If so, I'd love to learn more about it.

@ZOMBIEWINEGUM "Everyone wants their independence... until they run out of money." --Sir Humphrey, "Yes, Minister"
2
Amen.
2
@GoodTimesBadTimes I concur, especially if we build the newer types of nuclear plants which, while more expensive to operate, have substantially less chance of killing people.

@Dave-the-adequate The USA is currently the world's preeminent naval power. Our entire economy depends on global trade, whose safety we in turn are obligated to guarantee. Great Britain had exactly the same role before WWII. The wisdom of basing our entire economy on said global trade is of course debatable, but it is what it is. Right now our Navy is too small to handle a real global crisis adequately. Our ships are very powerful, but if we lose but a few we have massive gaps in coverage. Not to mention that crews tire out and lose effectiveness if a crisis drags on. All of the domestic issues you mention have nothing to do with military expenditure or lack thereof. They're the result of idiotic and counterproductive policies in our Federal government and many of our state governments.
2
In an ideal world, the USA or somebody championing democracy would slip a commando team into the country to assassinate these generals and other key people behind the coup, and open the possibility for it to be overturned. Of course, that sort of operation has a very small chance of success and almost complete chance of dramatic failure. I'm just fantasizing, really. ^_^

@tristanbarton2959 I am also a Patreon supporter, so you weren't wrong. ;)

@taxirob2248 There's lots of better beaches all around the Mediterranean. I grant you that the area might play host to a modest resort community in a perfect world, but it's no place for a large settlement.
1
@taxirob2248 They shouldn't have been forced to be there in the first place, is my one and only point.
1
Hitler never issued formal orders for the Holocaust, either. He just wound his people up and let them loose. The difference in the result is that Germans are incredibly organized and efficient. Also, they actually managed to take territory and hold it for years.
