Also, I think this definitely qualifies for the "Risks Ignored" bingo space. ;)

I guess sh!tposting is timeless.

I concur.

You would not believe how easy it is to talk your way into many supposedly "secure" facilities, even nowadays. Actually, especially nowadays. You just need a little forethought and a lot of nerve. Pro tip, though: don't try this anywhere the guards are both armed and likely to actually shoot you.

Dude, this is small ball. A cow once burned down Chicago. (Note: that whole story is *NOT ACTUALLY TRUE.*)

Also, I think the cover plates thing may qualify for checking off the "Temporary Fix" bingo spot. :)

The track at the end is perfect background for a sci-fi or cyberpunk nightclub ❤

Okay, so if I'm in a tunnel with a fire, try to head down. Got it.

Mark Felton is not somebody to aspire to.

A fellow devotee of "Yes, Minister" I see. ❤

Just FYI, John, we Yanks don't say "the I-95" when speaking of Interstate roads. It's just "I-95." Basically the opposite of how we say "in the hospital" and you fine folks say "in hospital." Isn't it fun to be divided by a common language? 😂

Complete failure of employee training/education. People need to understand why procedures exist, or they have no reason to respect them.
1
@Rietto Yep. China is the land of shortcuts and facades.

Why the heck didn't they just line the canal? /smh

This is known as "tofu-dreg construction," and is sadly normal in the PRC. The reason 'they build things so fast' is that things are built terribly. All sorts of structures partially or totally collapse on a DAILY basis throughout the PRC. It's pathetic.

If you haven't already, look into the history of the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority) here near Boston, MA. It's a bit of a shitshow, and has been for quite some time. I'm sure there's all sorts of incidents to analyze.

Props to Mr. Zebra for his mad dance moves ❤

That's probably where it'll start, but not necessarily where it will end.

@phils4634 Fun!

If I recall correctly, a Confederate horse lost its life during the bombardment proper. I do not recall the details.

I thought this might be the more recent incident where (IIRC) a train derailed and then they deliberately flared off its toxic cargo as part of a rapid clean-up. /smh

I didn't know the word for it, but I recently experienced 'completion bias' for myself in a rather visceral way. (Everything turned out fine, but still.) Knowing it's a documented phenomenon just made a few things snap into place in my head. So thanks! :)

I grew up a little ways south from here. I remember this event quite clearly.

Who else expected this story to be about New Zealand?
1
I didn't know the Society of Friends was still a thing in the UK. Now I know! :)

I think we can easily mark "Easily Preventable" off on the bingo card on account of the stop buttons. You'd think the big red emergency stop button would be the very first thing you'd show somebody learning to operate a ride. Ay yi yi.

This is why most civil engineers overbuild everything by a factor of at least two.
1
The PRC is basically a cyberpunk dystopia.

China is the land of shortcuts and facades.

Debris from space launches falling on rural people happens all the damn time in the PRC. The CCP does not care. At all. This incident was only unusual in the complete failure of the launch, the fact that it was filmed, and that the film managed to get out of China before being censored.
