  4. The news from Myanmar is that the junta government is losing ground to the ethnic armed groups fighting it. Maybe they ought to return there and join the rebels. Perhaps the ethnic groups will be favorably disposed to them and allow them to return to Myanmar if the junta is toppled.

For centuries, the SCS was a peaceful common fishing ground among countries bordering it--until China began provoking with its ridiculous claim. The US, Australia, Japan, and other powers were just passersby there--until China started restricting them. China believes that it still has a lot of leverage to force countries to bend to its will.

  20. China did not force Sri Lanka to accept the loans. It was offered, and it was accepted. The loan was used to build the port. It was SL's idea. As the lender, China expected that they will be repaid back. All the terms and conditions had been spelled in a contract. Since SL was unable to pay, China felt justified to take the port (built with the money they loaned to SL) under a lease arrangement where China gets free use of the port for 99 years, after which it will be turned over to SL. Simple as that. Same thing when you ask a bank to finance a car for your own use. You're driving the car but the bank holds the deed until you have paid the amortization fully. If you can't pay, then the bank declares you in breach of contract and gets to repossess the car.

All the government does are band-aid solutions. More loans. More debts. They got the biggest bailout in IMF history at 57 billion dollars which should be enough to stabilize the peso, cover short-term debts, and help distressed businesses and industries recover.
