@courgette3401 the UK’s healthcare system is notoriously bad. Is the US better? NO! But the solution isn’t socialism. I agree, a lot of money is wafted on paperwork, insurance, ect. Do you know why? Because of regulation on top of regulation, full of lawyers, bureaucrats, and corporations. It’s NOT a free market system. What needs to happen is for the government to cull a lot of the red tape. Let hospitals compete, let small insurers thrive. Abolish the ACA and bring in a new system that doesn’t make corporate giants.
1
@courgette3401 and that’s forgetting the price. Medicare for All would cost 40 trillion in the next decade, we’re essentially doubling out budget. It’s not feasible
1
It’s only cheaper if you cut costs. Doctors in the US are better trained, better equipped and paid more. Drugs in the us cost more. Ect. That’s why the us is so expensive.
1
Gabriel Eriksson where in America does someone choose to die? That’s bullshit and you know it. If your that bad financially, you will be covered by Medicare or if you’re smart you will have insurance. And yes, the us is much better medically. US doctors are payed more than anywhere else in the world, and the quality of care is the highest. Yes it’s expensive- but you’re in good hands. Plus in the us drugs are much more expensive, a lot of that money going to R&D. Pretty much the US pays more, and others benefit. All these figures are easily accessible, QoC, salary, drug prices.

Debates are a great idea that’s been ruined by bias.
1
The most American thing I’ve ever heard
1
This isn’t sensible, it doesn’t stop criminals from carrying guns. If I wanted to go shoot someone in New York I could steal or buy a gun illegally and do it. The only people this is hurting us the law abiding American
1
Yeah, that’s how it works
1
Our spending is the only reason we’re not under your dictatorship rule.
1
Stefan Baunack perhaps the dictatorship that the nazi party turned Germany into? If the us didn’t take Japan out of the war, it’s very possible that Germany - and the world - would be under a dictator rule. At least, nowhere near as democratic as we have now.
1
Stefan Baunack China’s military is cheaper to maintain, due to many reason: - Wages are lower in China, so the military can pay lower - China does a lot less research, which saves them money that would otherwise go to R&D - China doesn’t have 50+ allies and multiple military treaties. Plus it isn’t a part of NATO (which protects Europe’s ass) - China doesn’t need to keep its personal well equipped as they are much more expendable. Overall there’s little budging in the us military budget if the us wants to remain powerful. Which it does, as a lot of the world relies on the us military.
1
Stefan Baunack nuclear bombs will never be used in war. They are a deterrent not a weapon. But that still doesn’t mean that the us doesn’t need a powerful military.
1
Stefan Baunack anyway, the majority of the us budget already goes to healthcare. The us government spends more on healthcare per capita than Germany, and that’s without a full Medicare plan. It’s not that the us doesn’t spend money on healthcare, it’s that it’s just too expensive. That is something you can’t fix by throwing money at it.
1
Stefan Baunack the us needs a powerful military because not everyone holds the same commitments to freedom. Look at China, it’s a authoritarian communist regime with little in the way of human rights, private ownership and freedoms.
1
Tax credits are good when they are used well.
1
The medical industry works get hard to keep prices high.
1
It’s 7-9% because people don’t pay them off. 1% doesn’t even cover inflation, let alone pay off the debt others never pay. Its also 7-9% because they are risky. It’s not like a mortgage where the bank can liquidate the house. It’s a college degree... you can’t take away college degrees
1
It’s not taking, it’s just forcing him to not develop it and instead build a pond
1
I’m dubs with tax exemptions (I don’t understand the point of taxing something you already subsidise), I just want to see federal loans be abolished
1
Because that’s trump
1
There’s nothing to give any currency value
1
Australia is expensive
1
$61k average salary for what is 9 months work. They get enough... much more than enough.
1
jrjohnryanjr $61 000 is over the median income in the us. It also comes with other benefits, paid leave, school holidays, insurance.
1
jrjohnryanjr who has the more important job? Both are essential. Which is harder? Both are pretty easy jobs for their pay.
1
jrjohnryanjr I think the free market should decide, that’s how we don’t get a shortage of either.
1
jrjohnryanjr well they are, they’re getting over the national median. Are you saying that a teacher, who only gies to college for 4 years, should be paid the same as an engineer? What about a doctor? Teachers are important... they aren’t that important - and with our failing education system I feel reluctant to give a raise. US teachers are the best paid in the world, with more befits, lower taxes, ect. However it’s obvious that it’s not working.
1
If a vaccine doesn’t come out in the next few months that is
1
I don’t see how that’s the companies fault. A gun manufacturer isn’t taken to court if their gun is used in a shooting, and the sane should be said for scooters
1
@perniciouskitten I think it’s just politicians stopping innovation. Each person on this small scooter is one less in a 2 tonne car.
1
100-200k max
1
And the $9 trillion US government is what?
1
Obama did that and it let Isis rise again. Then we defeated isis
1
Wait... you have to work hard to live a good life of you make terrible financial decisions? What happened to personal accountability? If your willing to work hard, and be smart with your money you can do better in the US than anywhere else in the world
1
Yeah, with the government being scale to use taxes to supplement losses - he’s lucky he’s not just taxed out of business or worse.
1
The fact is that it would use enormous amounts of carbon to turn out grid into one of the most expensive and unreliable systems in the world.
1
kiley then you look at reliability and cost. There’s no energy source more reliable or cost effective as coal or gas.
1
kiley the US and EU have made huge strides in reducing carbon output. However chinas carbon footprint is growing exponentially, with no sign of slowing down. If the us continues on its track, it will reach its carbon goals by around 2050. That’s how it should work, we let the market transition naturally
1
kiley look at us and eu carbon emissions. Even with our growing populations we’re both going down. At the same time, China’s is growing exponentially.
1
kiley because government interference would bankrupt the economy and put us in debt like we’ve never seen. The only real proposed deal is the radical green new deal that would cost America over 60 trillion
1
kiley the green new deal would kill more jobs than it creates. The green new deal would cost over $63 trillion - $93 trillion to implement. The green new deal would make our energy system much less reliable, and much more expensive. A better option is to cut taxes in green energy (solar, wind, nuclear, hydro) and increase carbon taxes on energy companies.
1
Ken MacDonald then don’t get a masters in puppetry. The thing about education is it’s on you. No one else should pay for your idiotic gender studies degree.
1
Yeah, but in the process that hurts your social credit score making your job prospects very low
1
Then what about the 5 post offices on a mile of eachother?
1
How?
1
Selling data is how all websites make money, of you don’t like that - don’t use the internet
1
This is nonpartisan journalism. What a treat
1
It’s an excuse that the government uses to make it cost $1.7 billion for a hospital. Everyone has to run by the same rules, the government write them itself. The problem is the government has so much money it can afford to waste money... just raise taxes
1
The states did
1
You wouldn’t know, shooting an endangered species is illegal. And a businessman wants to make money on the land he owns? How fixing terrible! He’s going to provide housing to people, but according to you it’s just “profiteering”.
