  1. Probably a good this, that film was highly inaccurate. I know it is linked to a resurgence of Scottish national pride, and I will likely be told to ignore the errors, but it wasn't accurate with history.

It will not ever give you the egalitarian society you seek, and brings people down rather thand lifts them up. There is always a rich ruling class too, so the 1% exists there too.

  19.  @dukethomas95  True. In Australia, also a Constitutional Monarchy, the Queen, via her representative at the time, sacked one of our governments, that of Gough Whitlam (Labor) in Novemer 1975. It is also one of the reasons many Labor people, even now, are staunch republicans. I am anti-republican myself, but it will likely happen soon enough after the Queen passes.

  47.  @MaxArturo  Rationalism and pragmatism don't really excite, and Left wing ideology revolves around excitement, reactionary activity and, despite claims otherwise, loss of self-control, rationality and gentler traits. The old "Protestant work ethic" is rabidly fought against by Lefties, as are traditional British values. Idealism is rarely tempered with common sense or a need to build societal structures. Those structures can turn into creaking bureaucratic edifices, but the odd thing is that bureaucratic Civil Service jobs tend to attract Lefties.

  50. The US does seem to have been geared for perpetual conflict since at least FDR. Mind you, some wars are righteous, despite what the modern Left might claim. Britain had every right to defend itself against both Germany and Japan, as did the US in WW2. Wars since have been far less clear-cut, while the expansion of Communism was a real threat, the ideology and methodology of the Cold War was flawed on both sides.
