  1. I don't like the quote. Wealth is created more through working smart, not hard. Most people, no matter where they're from, simply aren't taught the ways to create wealth and therefore aren't wealthy. The guy's not even African, is he? What would he know about African women?

  4.  @rickhackro  An iphone comes from ideas and people taking action on the ideas with the belief and faith the the project would be successful. A lot of people see a patch of land and never consider the riches that lie underneath. You have to have the idea first. Ideas and knowledge are what are most valuable. I don't know any people working in silicon mining, but I come from an oil-producing and refining area and I used to work for an oil company (ChevronTexaco) and I had other relatives and acquaintances who worked in the industry (in the oilfields, offshore, R&D, at refineries, etc) and I have no complaints about it. It pays well.

Electrical Engineering Technology and years of experience before I went to medical school) and I'm a black Veteran (Maj USAF MC) board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (Laboratory Medicine) and USAFE Pathology consultant 2007 -2010 and I was also the Medical Director of Laboratory training for tech school students at Lackland AFB. Hop back in your lane. I speak for myself and no one else.

  8.  @rickhackro  Like I said, I know people who work on offshore rigs and literally out in the oilfield, and nobody is complaining about the pay. I also know a lot of people who get royalties for oil and gas based on the mineral rights to the land they own. If you want to get a piece of the wealth that energy (they're not called oil companies anymore) create, you can just buy stock in the companies. I've never had an iphone because I think that they are too expensive and nothing special. But, the fact remains, you have to have the idea about how to best utilize the resources available, whatever they may be. It has always been that way, whether you're talking about backyard gardening or building a circuit.

  11.    If you go around worrying about all that instead of figuring out how to increase your income and income streams, then you'll never have anything - no matter what kind of "luck" you have. I probably lost half of my portfolio in 2008-2009 but when you realize how to get money, you will KNOW that you can rebuild even after a "hijacking", bankruptcy, divorce, natural disaster or whatever.   12.    What you're doing (searching out any and every possible negative outcome) called "worrying" in countrified dialect. Some people call it catastrophizing, but it's all the same: getting worked up and distracted over events that most likely are not going to happen. I didn't have any roommate in 2008, I had a little baby and the only reason I didn't lose 75% is because I always keep a certain amount invested in bonds, which were not affected as much as stocks were. In 2009, at the very bottom, I invested every last bit of my bonus and kept on investing and buying real estate and kept on working (because I love my work) and now I'm rich and have no plans to retire. What would I do that for? I'm one of the "lucky" people who actually like working and helping other people right here in Switzerland. Get it straight. LOL.

  15.  @theincapable  Well, all I can tell you is that I bought some expensive (200+ Euros) LED lighting for my new house in Germany in 2015 -2016 and one of them failed and the whole fixture had to be replaced under warranty even though it was claimed that they should last 10,000 Hours or more. The EU had to make regulations that manufactures had to make it possible to replace the individual LEDs. So, apparently I wasn't the only one affected by this. I also had to frequently (6 -9 months) replace those compact fluorescent bulbs which are also claimed to last many thousands of hours. And forget about Halogen lamps - I keep them in stock at home because they burn out so quickly and I'm buying Philips and Osram.

  17. Well, the Germans went above and beyond making junk short-lived light bulbs. I never had to replace so many light bulbs in my life as I did when I first moved to Germany. They would burn out just months after I'd installed them (even though I didn't use them during the day because I was at work). Then the laws changed and incandescent bulbs were banned (by the EU, I think) and LED and other types of lights came into play promising 10,000 hours of use, but nooooooo, those don't last any longer than the incandescent lights. They even had to pass a law regarding the LED lamps with multiple LEDs because if one stopped functioning, the whole thing would have to be replaced and now manufactures have to construct the circuit so that the rest of the LEDs continue working even if one doesn't. It's disgusting.

  20.  @salmonnnnman  You're putting words in my mouth and then arguing with yourself about words you put in my mouth. I said that wealth is created continuously and ceaselessly based on ideas and the source of our supply is God. Innovation is the implementation of ideas, so there has to be an idea first. If you are digging for Gold in a spot where someone else has determined through various methods that gold exists, you are merely using someone else's idea and knowledge of the terrain to get something. You specifically did not have the idea, but you still benefit from it. The idea came first. Of course the world seems chaotic to you because you don't understand who you are, where you come from and what your purpose is. This is the case for many people. People who say that Bill Gates simply dropped out of college and became a billionaire simply haven't taken the time to read about his upbringing and early exposure to computers and programming. In other words, there are a lot of confused people out here.

  21.  @salmonnnnman  Obviously the supply is available to everyone, as we are all children of God, but not everyone has the awareness of such. That's what I've been trying to tell you. The old adage goes "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink". None of these ideas are new, but people choose to ignore them, instead spending their time trying to get something from where there is nothing to get. That's the reality of it. You see the world as chaotic because you're confused. If you don't know what your purpose is and don't know who you are, you are subject to the whims of others, being pulled this way and that, doing what others want you to do (which may not be in your best interests). A lot of people don't feel that they have a purpose and this a major cause of depression and anxiety. And why should I care if a sense of purpose is measurable by any means? Can you measure love? or sadness? The Universe is not chaotic and that's why we can calculate and figure out how to put telescopes out into space and gather data or put people on the moon and fly them safely back to earth. You should read what Wernher von Braun said and wrote about this particular topic. You are right about one thing and that's that everything is connected: All people and things. The actions we take have have broad-reaching consequences, some great, some small.

All of my grandparents were born over 100 years ago and did fine in spite of conditions, I suppose because they weren't waiting on or discussing luck, or at least I never heard from them that they considered themselves lucky or unlucky. They just got stuff done!

  30.  @bugjams  Good ideas are more valuable than manual labor because it's hard to come up with a good idea, but it's easy to find people who can do manual labor. I've worked in low-skill, minimum wage jobs and I know that those types of jobs pay very little because it takes only one shift to learn the job and the other hand, it took me many years to learn the skills and gain the experience for my current job and I am paid accordingly (at least 50X as much as then). It is difficult to find someone to replace me now, but incredibly easy to find someone to replace me when I was working at McDonald's. Why would I spend an additional 14 years and $100K educating myself after high school if I was only going to earn 10% more than when I was working at McDonalds? Forget it, man. Prices for products, services and entertainment vary according to what the market will bear. Nobody is forcing anyone to listen to Mariah Carey's Christmas song every year, but people do and she gets paid royalties for the airplay, as she rightfully should. I get paid on a consistent basis for YouTube videos that I uploaded way before my channel monetized. I take pictures and sell them as stock photos and get paid over an over for the same picture when someone downloads. That's the way things work. Anyway what do you do and how much do you earn and are you satisfied with your pay? P.S. hard physical work lasts only as long as it takes to complete the task.

( but other skills are needed for mountain biking/downhill or climbs in the Alps). That would be like forcing people to understand the construction of an integrated circuit before using a computer.

  40. @user-zu1ix3yq2w  If a person starts riding in childhood and rides regularly, it will be intuitive. I believe all this instruction on counter steering, etc. is for people who have some kind of balance issues or started learning in adulthood. And even if you explain and show a person this video, they still have to DO it. I got my son a "Laufrad" (bike without pedals) when he was 2 years old and he started riding it instantly.

When I'm on my road bike, I'm generally passing the people on e-bikes. 😄 Most people are merely cruising along at low speeds. And even if they fall turning at a high speed, they will have learned what not to do and make adjustments for the next time.

  45.  @talamioros  All I know is this: If you don't ask, you don't get. If you've run through your funds or don't have rich parents, ask for a loan or for someone to give you money. If you don't have an education, sign up for one somewhere or listen to all the people who are giving out information for free. Get with it. Create some luck for yourself by putting yourself out there, doing stuff and asking.

For example, people from all over the world see my youtube videos and (only some) take the time to find my email or connect to me on Linkedin and reach out and ask for advice and help with things they want to do. Now, what happens when someone refuses your request or proposal? You just keep asking until you find someone who says yes. It my sound seem not compassionate, but what I've learned is that the most compassionate thing to do is to tell people that they have to get their butts in gear if they want good things to happen. That means that they also have to start helping (and yes, everyone can help in some way) and start asking and taking action everyday. Saying "oh, you have bad luck" is just cementing them in their undesirable situation.

  47.  @talamioros  Take it how you want. My channel has been consistently growing and was already monetized before I had even seen one Veritasium video. And it grows because I give people helpful information and advice on a number of different topics - for free. My viewpoint is just that - and you can take it or leave it. I'm just telling you what works for me and I'll continue to be successful even if you don't watch my videos or even if YouTube disappears. It's all about mindset. That's the message.

I know multiple people who have done it. They didn't wait for their luck to change, they started taking action. You do what you can with what you've got.
