  2. This reminds me of staying at a hotel in Bayswater, London. I had picked it because it had central heating. Only my room was ice cold. When the staff offered to bring up an electric heater, I complained bitterly. Finally, I got a suite with working central heating, but it ran so hot that I had keep a window wide open. I made a mental note never to visit Britain in the wintertime, if I could help it.

  5. Britain is paying lip service to Gibraltar. Whenever there's a clash of interests with Blighty, Gibraltar will end up losing. It has happened many times over during decolonisation. Why should it be different now?

  12. To achieve "growth", Russia is burning through its national wealth fund at an alarming rate. In two years, its liquid assets have nearly halved. Moreover, Russia is cranking out shells, cannons and tanks, which do nothing for the long-term economic growth of the country. Seeing how poorly those arms perform in Ukraine, and how its arms exports were in steep decline even before the war, Russia's arms industry is an unwise investment if there ever was one.

  13. Buddy, Ukraine isn't out to capture cities like Russia did with its Pyrrhic victory in Bakhmut. Ukraine is aiming to liberate the occupied territories as a whole. At this stage, cutting Russian supply lines is much more important than capturing urban centres. Without supplies, the cities will fall.

Of the UNSC permanent Western members, France was firmly in favour (again), the UK was on the fence (again) and only the US was opposed (again). The non-permanent Western members -- Japan, Malta, Switzerland, South Korean and Switzerland -- all voted for the ceasefire and for a second time, too.

Let's face it, despite its defence spending, the UK is woefully ill-equipped to wage a Ukraine-style war. In that respect, it's no better than Germany.
