Like-minded EU members approached Cameron to propose a joint bid for agricultural reform, but the good man dismissed them. Cameron wasn't out for reform, but more exclusive privileges. Predictably, after Brexit, the UK found little sympathy in these countries. On the plus side, if the UK were to reapply, exlusive privileges are no longer an issue. The EU will make sure they're not on the agenda.

  4. To be honest, Russia was misunderstood the essence of scorched earth tactics many times over. More often than not, they destroy cities they're attacking -- not retreating from -- so as to deny themselves their use. Mariopul and Bakhmut are cases in point.

  28. Cameron could've easily found allies in reforming the EU, but he gave them the cold shoulder. To say he squandered all remaining goodwill within the EU is an understatement. The consensus among the EU-27 was that Cameron was out for more unique privileges, not reform. No wonder that in the subsequent Brexit negotiations, the UK faced a unified front that didn't falter once. Hubris before the fall.
