  1. I like you, Tim, but if you think Obama > Trump, then the best I can say is you belong with Jimmy Dore and his crew. Definitely listenable on a wide range of issues, but fascist/socialist in your domestic-policy opinions. You guys create agencies to take on the fat cats, and the fat cats always take over those agencies, and the policies on the ground create negative feedback loops that worsen the problems you think you're solving.

"Good" Progressives tend to oversimplify the human ecosystem, and miss the delicate checks and balances of free people dealing with free people that you upset by using force to achieve your ends. You're good at seeing the one factor in the equation you want to see improved, but you don't see (no one really can) all the variables that you affect directly and indirectly by using forcible taxation and redistribution, and severing those affected from responsibility for and authority over what affects them, directly. It's always Sally deciding how to spend John's money on Bill.

Of course, in our entitled society, there are far too many people living this way in the first place, with no thought to the morrow. A couple centuries ago, EVERYbody was a LOT poorer, and society dealt with much worse in much more resilient fashion. Now, we all just look to the feds to solve all the problems we mostly create for ourselves.

  11. Of course it'll get worse. But it's not yet that bad. We're mainly suffering from our shut down, not the Wuhan Flu, itself. We can open up the economy, with some tweaks to how we run businesses and interact, socially. Hopefully, there'll be a major shift in education, so we stop packing our kids into one room with everybody else's kids.

  21. Meh. She didn't survive because of the miracles of modern medicine, although it helped offset some of the problems the health mafia created in the first place. Seed oils. Chemical preservatives. Chemical pesticides. They're doing bad things to our bodies and when she says "healthy diet," she probably means she keeps a lid on the processed foods. But even the so-called "healthy food" isn't as healthy as it used to be. Poor soils that get boosted by petrochemical fertilizers, but lack key minerals that regulate metabolism. Crap farming methods, made to look good by the chemicals we spray. If she eats any kind of store-bought baked goods in the USA, unless she's going to some hippy co-op where they make sure everything's organic and they don't use preservatives or chemicals in their bread/pastry baking, are pretty bad for you. And it's not just the sugar. I'd say it's mainly in the other chemicals. Unless you're buying all your produce from an organic farmer who uses restorative farming methods, even the produce aisle ain't what it used to be. She says she exercises... Not sure what she means by that. If she's morbidly obese, she's getting a heck of a workout just walking to the fridge!

  23. We're undergoing a paradigm shift away from globalism. Nationalism is the short-term beneficiary, but LOCALism is the ultimate beneficiary. People are figuring out (again) that the "anointed nobility" aren't in touch with everyday life, let alone competent to direct all its activities Remote learning got a huge boost. Smart institutions will foster that shift. Moribund institutions will resist that shift. Brick-and-mortar ain't goin' away, but it's clearly declining. I've been saying for years that it's really dumb to make your kid go to school and sit in a classroom with everybody their chronological age, getting a one-size-fits-all lesson, live, from a teacher who's aiming at the stupidest kid in the room, to get that kid a 'C' while the gifted kids are held back by the slowest student. There's a lot of resistance to the shift in education, because the institutions AND the students 'brought up' in that institutional framework think that the way they've always done it is the best way. And teachers' egos drive a lot of it. They're SURE their students can't learn without their WONDERFUL teacher watering everything down and holding their hand on everything. But in my opinion, institutional definition of "Student Success" is to ensure that more students pass, whether they actually have mastered the content or not. They'll never admit that, but it's exactly what they're pushing for, and it just leads to need for MORE hand-holding, and - of course - more MONEY, because "We need to remediate these learning deficits, and allow for 'differences in race, ethnicity, gender, and economic background.'" Bullshit. We need to put students in the classes they NEED, and require mastery before promoting them to the NEXT class they need. USA's public-education 'learning products' are inferior. Run by accountants with spreadsheets and SJWs with oppression hierarchies tattooed on their foreheads, instead of the teachers and students. You want boys to start excelling in STEM, like they used to? Give them an online learning management system (LMS, like Pearson MyLab and Mastering or Cengage WebAssign), and cut off their video games until they get their homework done! The cool thing is that it would motivate those boys to get it done, AND it would present the knowledge they NEED, exactly when they need it, i.e., instant, on-demand help. Instead, they're trying to perfect an outmoded content-delivery system, devised for a time where there might be only ONE person in the WHOLE TOWN who actually owns a book! Now, EVERYbody has the INTERNET!

  26. Brie Larson would've been fine in the movie with better writing. I don't think her off-screen comments and attitudes moved the needle, much. It didn't help that she antagonized half of the audience with her interviews and public appearances, but those she said antagonistic things toward mostly don't know and couldn't care less what an actress says when she's not acting. The movies failed because of The Message and the hackneyed writing that emerged, trying to squeeze maximum diversity and scorn towards masculine men into every flick.

  42. I'm torn on AOC, because her ignorance is something of a shield against the Swamp. She was OFFENDED by the fact that "Freshman Congress Orientation" was wall-to-wall lobbyists. She doesn't know how that game is played, which is ignorant, but the game, itself, is crooked as hell, and she was right to call them out. Ilhan Omar got it all wrong on the facts as to when CAIR was created (She said after 9/11, when it was created in 1994). But she NAILED it when she called out the Patriot Act for its police-state features, which you just don't hear "old hands" in Congress talking about. As more or less of a crusty old bastard, who believes in old-fashioned tolerance and basic individual rights, I'm pretty eclectic about things. When these clowns get something right, I try to see past my apparent tribe and not throw out the baby with the bathwater. Sometimes it's the Republicans acting all tribal and regressive. More often, of late, it's been the Democrats, and the degree to which they've regressed is far beyond anything the Republicans appear to be doing. Most of the things I disagree with are the things there's bipartisan support for. The Republicans LOVE Free Stuff just as much as Democrats, these days. The Democrats like the arms industry as much as any war-hawk Republican.

It HAS gotten more dangerous in the USA, now that the party of violence is out of power and seeking to crank up the terror tactics, like they did in 2015 and ever since, except for 4 years of Biden, where the Dems stopped funding riots and terror threats. The chaos served the Dems well for a number of years. Now we're in the "blowback period." No telling how long it'll last. Some people have just checked out and will never fall for their BS again, so it might be long-lasing.

  50. Every "solution" Dems come up with is an invitation for more homelessness. They shouldn't be telling people to stay in. They should tell them to stay OUT! Restaurants should switch to Drive-in's! Observe social distance that way. There'll be huge demand for shoppers and grocercy-store and restaurant delivery people. Gas prices are cratering. Good job for the drivers. Also good for the community because using drivers, who can combine trips, there's less fuel being used. Rather than you and the people down the block both driving themselves to the restaurant, one delivery person brings dinner to both families with one trip. And makes money. And gets a nice tip, most trips.
