@hishamg And hydrogen is far far less efficient overall. It adds complexity too, which is just stupid for cars, but may be a good thing for mass energy storage.

I drive through the hard coal region of PA twice a week and I assure you they are stripping the hills as fast as they ever were. Filthy coal trucks on the road continually. They may not be burning as much here but they are still mining as much as ever. Strip operations that had been dormant for decades are hauling coal again in the last few years -- especially since the invasion of Ukraine.
2
What's the coefficient of drag? That's where most of the energy is used up in moving the average auto. Below fifty mph or so, a blunt design makes some sense, but if you want to move far and fast you need something slippery or you will just pay and pay to push air out of the way needlessly.
2
@MatthewBayard Maybe he bought stock because the good things he is saying about BYD are true.
2
That is exactly what is and has been happening with US coal.

I had ARk genetics,, I finally just got sick of seeing a loss each day. I think it lost thirty percent or so in the last year. Everyday I would look at my portfolio and ARK would go down but Nvidia would go up enough to cover my loss. Finally, screw this, it just ain't turning around again. Took a big hit, but glad I got rid of it. Now my Nvidia isn't just covering ARKs losses, it's paying off like clockwork, only stock I own that consistently beats Tesla. I do think there is a big future in genetics but apparently not yet, and maybe better not through ARK. Woods problem is that she is too far ahead of the herd. You lose just as surely as if you are too far behind if you are too far ahead. You have to be right at the front of the mob, not out in front of it.

Tesla EVs are selling for from 4 to 5k more used than they cost new. This may be part of the reason why they keep increasing the price. IMHO since Tesla should have this money and not wannbe private Tesla dealers, Tesla should offer a next in line fee for those willing to spend an additional 4k to buy a car right now. This would take the money that Tesla is leaving on the table out of the pockets of the used Tesla sellers.
2
@tedmoss Could be, the rate of inflation has changed since I did the percentage.
2
The main reason that certain mods are not allowed in most racing is because they allow the cars to corner at such speed that if their is some glitch, driver error or other screw-up, then someone may well die.
2
That sound awesome, and the Tesla megapacks fit right in on Hawaii.
2
The bias against Tesla is supported by VW and company and the hundreds of millions of dollars that they donate to fake environmental groups in the hopes that they will delay Tesla in Berlin. They really have nothing on Tesla's level, and Tesla even now out sells Germany cars in Germany in comparable models. All those Teslas that are selling in Germany now could have been made in Germany.
2
Here is a good reason not to set up a factory in the UK. In the seventies a relative of mine was the executive engineer of an international company that was building exactly the same plant all over the world. On some of the main components the welders in the UK completed two and a half a day. The welders on exactly the same components in Germany produced an average of ten a day. Nuff said.

If NMC batteries are considered "super explosive" (which they are not) then a tank full of gasoline must be considered a clandestine therrmobaric device.
2
@joeking433 Joe King you are like a professional shill for traditional OEM. You knowledge is extremely questionable and usually dead wrong. Also if there is anyone who is biased it is you. You wouldn't be so ass hurt if you buy some Tesla stock. Come on admit it. Who do you work for? The union? Affiliated with some dealership? You are a lot like the Russian trolls who accuse the USA of everything the Russians are doing. You can't be so ill informed in reality, it has to be a money thing.
2
Didn't realize my ssd array ran on coal. Who knew?
2
A couple of billion in shorts by Gates has a lot to do with the recent FUD on all mass media.
2
Dude, he as already done that on multiple occasions. But really, at this point Tesla is far ahead of everyone, and if you can afford it, that is the one to get.
2
Thank VW group that you are not making the best Teslas in the world in Germany.
2
You got the reason they are banned right, not so much about who invented the "fan" car. It was invented by the same guy who invented the wing that you see behind most purpose built or modified race cars -- Jim Hall. He invented the "fan" car in 1970. He's from Texas, which in some areas may resemble Argentina just a little bit, but they are rather far apart geographically.
2
I would bet that Tesla will only lower its prices if by some miracle a competitor begins to catch up to Tesla's tech, and charges substantially less than Tesla. If you know of an OEM that meets these parameters please let me know as I may be interested in a purchase. Realistically I will probably just feel compelled to point out how and why your suggestion does not met the first requirement, and if it does, then the price will be out of the ball park.
2
Look this is like living among humans 101: The news media's purpose is not to inform you, it is to sell ad space/time. The incredibly negative news on Tesla, which is all bull and irrelevant, should have demonstrated this to everybody by now. They would love to get the billions a year from Tesla that they get from other OEMs. So why would anybody be surprised to be misinformed or uninformed by commercial media? They shouldn't. That's why you channel is worthwhile most of the time. Thanks.
2
Why wonder: over eighty percent of ALL news delivered on commercial media is directly from press releases. What? You thought they had research and intelligence --$$$ -- from ads are all that matters: BMW Group is part of Bayerische Motoren Werke AG. The do not approach the 2.7billion that GM spent last year but, spent over $100 million on advertising in digital, print, and national TV in the last year. They invest in premium ad units and advertised on over 250 different Media Properties in the last year across multiple Media formats. Their ad program is transitioning to digital, and they are promoting the use of their cars in Gaming to establish a clientele among youths.
2
@freeheeler09 Well if you have ever been through those big windmill areas in Texas you know there is no shortage of wind there. It is relentless. I don't see how anyone would want to live there.
2
Off road with unsprung motors: good luck you are gonna need it.
2
@turtley8883 OH, I agree entirely, its the mining for coins that is possibly the stupidest thing ever devised. Coins could have as easily been allocated based on individual genetic codes or other schemes. But spending real resources for a fictional product that could easily be disseminated otherwise it so beyond stupid, not to mention environmentally negative.
2
@turtley8883 No crypto bets for me: chips, EVs, batteries, they are not doing great either but I am an investor not a trader, so am mostly unconcerned with fleeting fluctuations.
2
You can't use sodium in cars, only megapacks and such.
2
No factory paint or aftermarket wrap for my CT. I will mask off digital camo and spray it with a few cans of paint. Then If I get sick of it, I will take a brillo pad to it and change the scheme.
2
Short races like hill climbs utilize all the benefits of electrics. A 24 hr race is a different story -- for now. . . .
2
I agree entirely. I can only think of the Porsche 911 when people complain about the unchanging style of the Teslas. It barely changed for decades and was mostly so ugly that only a real driver could love it. Or the Dodge demon and derivatives: they all look the same year after year. Then their was the king of them all: the VW beetle. I think they still may be making them in Latin America, or did until a few years ago. What was the sense in updating the bug? . . . Perhaps to reduce sales? If they were still making the original VW bus, they would still be selling them. If they took exactly the same hippie bus style and electrified it, they would sell millions of them. But. . . you know, neither you nor I, nor apparently even the market, gets to make such decisions. I personally would much rather have a 69 camaro style with updated everything but the body like Joe Rogan does, maybe even electric. Much much rather have the 69 style Z/28 x33 body with the endura bumpers and all new internals than any of the more contemporary styles. What people really get tired of is not some great design, but their own minds, and their minds have been shaped by a century of conditioning by a manufacturing philosophy based on planned obsolescence which necessitates both intentional inferior quality and the instilled need to chase personal fulfillment through the ownership of designated status symbols with ephemeral longevity.
2
You may as well be investing in Russian arms dealers for all the harm your money will do.
2
That seems to be the common experience with new Tesla owners. Enjoy.
2
Don't know about where you live, but where I live they repave the roads every few years because they need to. All of a sudden I can see the expense of this regular maintenance skyrocketing. Also kind of wonder what would be the effect and cost when some nimrod (propably the same guy who rolled coal on your Tesla) decides to start doing burnouts with tungsten spiked snow tires? I can attest that this is particularly damaging, because at the age of 16 I managed to actually rip up the asphalt for about a half block with my 69 Z28 by trying to lay rubber with new studded tires. This left deep grooves in the road witch eventually filled up with water that froze and over one winter a new asphalt road was basically ruined.
2
If you could by an F22 for 334,000,000 dollars, but could buy an F14 for 280,000,000, IMHO you would kind of be a fool to buy the fourth gen instead of the fifth generation aircraft. The fourth gen would be too over priced in this comparison. I submit that this is roughly the relationship between Tesla's tech, and all other EVs, and the gap will widen.
2
It's not politics, or ethics, it's the big boys programmed trading that subverted Tesla stock in the face of out-performance in the real world. This is how they get to buy Tesla at bargain basement prices: they know Tesla is going to crush all competition, and they want to own it.
2
The can't undercut Tesla on price without losing money on every sale, and it's going to get much worse in the future. Right now, you have to be kind of uninformed to consider any EV other than a Tesla.
2
Seems to me it is almost impossible to actually know, what you get when buying a Tesla, especially if do not have first hand experience of ownership over some period. Every Tesla owner that I have surveyed loves their car. And of course they make almost daily upgrades to Teslas. Take the new "track" feature that appeared yesterday on the Plaid. All of a sudden it's an entirely different car. Even the owners of a Plaid only have a continuing estimation of "what they got". With Tesla, "what you get" can only ever be an estimation based on what it is at the moment.
2
You mention the Tesla firings: Most commercial media is pushing the fact that Elon Musk fired a bunch of Twitter employees then offered some of them their jobs back as a total gaff. I beg to differ: Intentional or not, it was a great move. Imagine having everything in your life thrown into the wind in SF where the living is great if you are rich and not for anyone else. Imagine how motivated a person would be to return to their choice position after them realizing the extra work that would be necessary to reestablish that career anew. I personally would put forth a super effort to show my continued worth as an employee at that point, and a little later ask for a big raise.
2
YouTube does that.
2
BYD perhaps?
2
@remliqa Doesn't matter, these Trumpers are cultists who are immune to both reason and facts. That's why they make up their alternative facts, also known as fictions, with no regard for anything but the way they feel about being left in histories dust bin.
2
@calmorton4619 No.
2
Sandy is invested in Aptera -- no?
2
You got to keep up here Doug. . . . meaningless.
2
@manuelsevigny6855 That's for sure. On the other hand, the average battery on an eight year old mS still had about 90% of it's original capacity. But a lifetime warranty like the Hyundai sure would dispel a lot of anxiety for those who do not realize that the battery in a well engineered EV will outlast the car in general.
2
Don't forget your official Q tinfoil hat to protect you from the Tesla brain waves that Elon is broadcasting.
2
Yeah good job VW. Good job giving hundreds of millions of dollars to fake environmental groups to delay the opening of Tesla Giga Berlin. Still acting like the mafia and the misanthropes they are.
1
It was known and reported on. I can't believe anyone would buy such a car.
1
@larryc1616 That doesn't keep Texans from buying or owning Teslas, just from having them delivered in Texas, for now. That will change, because even for Texas, it is too stupid and underhanded.
1
To hurt Tesla.
