No one uses firearms similar to those that would be banned, or bought back, in their military. They are not weapons of war. An apache gunship is a weapon of war. An a-10 warthog is a weapon of war. An m4 carbine is a weapon of war. Oh it looks a lot like an AR15 -- the only difference is in the function -- DUHHHH. . . . An AR15 is a sporting firearm. Depending on the calibre it may be a legal hunting firearm. It fires one shot each time you pull the trigger. An m4 fires many shots if you hold the trigger down. An AR15 does not do this. That is all the difference. There are tens of thousands of legal registered machine guns in civilian hands in the USA and there has never been a crime committed with any of them. Switzerland has real weapons in the homes of many citizens. full automatic weapons, yet -- no massacres. Could it be that crazy individuals who want to kill a bunch of people will find a way? I think so. In a strange way, using a firearm both localizes and announces such events -- most of the time. Whereas some self assumed evil genius type could kill loads of people and never be found out. Or some stooge would take the fall, cause the police needed to make a show. Anyhow, you do know that the extreme right-wing, is extremely armed. I mean they have weapons hidden that will never be confiscated. So many that if you really knew about it, it would give you nightmares. So if that is what you want, for an armed ultra right wing, and the impossibility of defending yourself against them, or the government:. then the whole gun-control narrative makes sense.

  19. I can imagine an alternative that is outside of the usual: capitalism, communism, socialism, anarchism ruts. OK well anarchism may not be a rut, and in a sense it is almost as if an underlying subtle substrate of anarchism may be both present and necessary for the vitality of the other isms, but it seems to me that a purely anarchist state, or region, if you prefer, would be at the mercy of nations that are otherwise organized. First of all, I mention in the spirit of full disclosure that I find government and it's mechanics boring, and somehow grey and depressing, and consider the people who have a desire to acquire temporal power over the physical existence of others as sick, deeply self-deluded individuals. I think that in general our leaders, in whatever flavor basically suck ass when it comes to administering a government. We are told that governments are the most dangerous entities on earth, not to other governments or other peoples, but to their own people. But of course it is not governments, no matter the formal codification of society in the form of laws and regulations, but the people who enact same, supposedly for the benefit of society, but more realistically in the service of their own organically pragmatic predilections, whether apparent as in the case of libertarians, and various utilitarian movements, or subtle and convoluted and perhaps even unconscious as on the part of various idealists, and utopians. Anyway, enough of this and to the point. I suggest a governing system in which the body of government employees, whether a janitor or the chief executive, is chosen by testing and continual performance review. Sort of a Techno-Neo Confucianism where anyone who is able to score higher on a series of tests that are generated by machine learning logarithms to optimize a governing system that is entirely relative to an established constitution or declaration of stated national goals, such as the optimal health wealth and well-being of all citizens or the earliest possible establishment of an extra-planetary colony that is self-sustaining, or some other orientation or constellation of orientations that is established by and modified by the adult populace with varying degrees of voting powers, which degree would also be determined by a test designed to test the intelligence, knowledge and correlation to reality of their internal conceptions. They would be voting directly only for the goals and general prime directives of the nation and not the leaders or manner in which these goals are pursued except in so far as they have established restrictions on such pursuits, such as environmental regulations and standards of dignity and freedom regarding all individuals. New and future technology will allow earthlings to establish a society that is superior to any that humans themselves are capable of designing the social and physical dynamics and details of. Thusly the human race will expand into the limitless resources of the solar system and beyond, to evolve in concert with our technology to a destiny which is presently beyond the capacity of even the most creative futurist to imagine. In such a system, the tests for positions of higher responsibility would be complex and not limited to written exams, but would include virtual reality scenarios, real world assessment and performance review, as well as extreme depth of psychological testing. I might add that in regard to such "higher" positions it may well be determined and required that it would be necessary for them to experience a mental state of awareness that is beyond the consensus thought-centric and quite mechanical mental processes of humanity, whether by psychedelic agents or some other mode of transcendence. In addendum: democracies do work, I should say "can work", this is illustrated by the fact that if a problem is too complex, such as guessing the number of jellybeans in a huge urn. If enough people guess, say tens of thousands, the median of all the guesses is always more accurate than any single guess. Ok theoretically a single guess can be just as, or more accurate than the median of all guesses, but not very friggen often and it is just luck. Now if you have some agency that obscures the urn or finds a means of exaggerating certain qualities or merely using persuasion to misrepresent the number of jelly beans this will obviously fuck things up. This is analogous to the present state of the world with regard to the disinformation and propaganda generated by all manner of sources like Fox News, or any news outside of peer reviewed journals and even then. . . . So of course in this society, as it should be in ours, the penalty for knowingly reporting inaccurate information as fact would be death. No excuses.

Now he wants to end social security, medicare, food stamps, help with rent and heat for the needy, and emergency aid to children, to pay for the deficit he ran up. If you support trump you are one of two kinds of people: a multimillionaire: in which case your support make perfect sense, or you just another rube that got coned by a NYC conman. The biggest problem with most Trump supporters is they are one issue voters: guns, abortion, border security. These people have been played for decades by the politicians on both sides. But the fact remains that Obama deported more undocumented residents per year than Trump has. And the Republican are not ever gonna ban abortion everywhere because they would be killing the ecumenical goose that laid the golden egg. And think about this: Trump made bump stocks illegeal and they had to be destroyed or turned in without any compensation. Bernie said that was illegal, and that at the very least the people should have been compensated for their loss. I heard that Trump already has offers to be the new host on The Price is Right, after Bernie crushes that lying mentally ill Mercer puppet.

  33. What's the difference between socialism and democracy? Socialism is an economic system.  Democracy is a system of government. These are two different categories of things.  Something that Chris didn't seem to know. Socialism is the most popular economic system in Western countries like Canada (which experience no 2008 financial crisis) and Denmark (which has the highest level of happiness of all countries). Democracy is a theoretical political system that really doesn't exist on earth, and never has, unless you consider classical Athens in which the men who were not slaves or from some other place had it.  In levels of democracy in the world the USA ranks 32nd. USA was never intended to be a democracy and never has been, if it was, Al Gore would have beaten Bush because he has 1.5 million more votes.  If you haven't noticed: despite the fact that Bernie Sanders is getting record crowds even in red states, far more than anyone else, for all practical purposes he is being boycotted by all the news networks.  I guess they know that their bottom lines depend on the ads, and Bernie isn't going to spend what the others are on ads.

The lynch pin of all that is wrong with the USA is campaign finance. All private money must be out of politics entirely. No funds of any kind from the private sector to politicians ever without jail time. What is now "business as usual" was not so long ago criminal activity. All campaign contributions are bribes, all PACs are anti-American. America is now owned by a few families, that is why you have such problems. All billionaires are inherently evil because no one makes and keeps that much money without being a scumbag. Think about it this way. If I gave you a dollar every second for twenty four hours a day it would take about two weeks for me to give you a million dollars. It would take about thirty two years to give you a billion dollars at the same rate. It would take 31,700 years to give you a trillion dollars. When our republic was founded severe restrictions were put upon the establishment of corporations. They had to be for the benefit of the pubic and they were only licensed to operate for thirty years at a time. We are now seeing the reason for this. The founding fathers knew that if wealth concentrated like it had in the hands of the royals and bankers of Europe it would be the end of the power of the people in our democratic constitutional republic. By the way the only real democracy on earth is Switzerland, a place with lots of firearms in civilian hands and no mass shootings.   50. Think about this: El Paso Texas and Juarez Mexico are the same city split by a boarder. Until recently El Paso was one of the safest US cities, and I think the shooter came from somewhere else, and it probably still is one of the safest. On the other side Juarez is one of the most dangerous cities on earth. Why?
