  1. They actually CAN and I've seen some unbelievable things first hand. Like an entire cauliflower growing from a 1 inch square piece of potting mix to full size, ready to harvest. Bonsai does it but they're deliberately kept small by lack of nutrition. However if there's enough fertiliser put on it, it will grow big and the soil will be a solid mass of roots but it will be pretty much level with a natural plant. It's common here in Australia to have miniature fruit trees that grow fruit IN A POT on your deck. It's got a lot to do with fertiliser rates and types and of course they'd need some fabric to stop the dirt washing away with those trees on concrete. The other problem is water pooling up in certain areas of the concrete causing root rot and eventual death. This isn't a problem for trees that grow near rivers or in swamps.

And that in Australia they sell orange trees and lemon trees in pots all the time at major hardware chains and they live for YEARS as my aunty has one many years old.

If you know what I know, you'd know exactly the tricks to make this work. As most horticulturists can have trees up to 40 years old STILL growing in pots. It's common here in Australia to buy fruit trees THAT GIVE FRUIT in pots. I see them being sold all the time and know the truck behind it. But I have commercially levels of cacti at my place along with a few hothouses and that's more my expertise.

But the place is LOADED with single moms living on welfare. Very few jobs though. She works online and her husband works for a week or 2 in another city with accommodation provided (government job).

  47. Concrete pipes are something SOUTH AFRICA done for THE HOMELESS. I considered one at my first property for sleeping because of possible tree collapse. A camper would've had me crushed whereas a heavy duty drainage pipe would've been good. Except they wanted THOUSANDS for one new pipe.

  50. They CAN grow and I have seen some real tricks done included a 1 inch square piece of potting mix, NOT in hydroponics grow a cauliflower to harvest size. Drill holes in the concrete for drainage, water often during hot times, fertilise it pretty heavily and it'll grow fine bit the soil will be packed solid with roots. It will work however and if the concept is rubbish, after 7+ years the roots will break right thru. I had a property with trees growing directly on soft rock, but the grass was hopeless there. It's common here in Australia to have orange and lemon trees in pots, see them being sold all the time.
