Old one is just blah. Poor quality body, awful paint, worst body panels, awful chemical smell interior in everyone of them, will rust if exposed to bad weather, so so handling, stock is not fast, awful brakes, very crappy interior.
They are only good when you put a ton of money into them. Big turbo, IC, exhaust, new paint, new custom interior, new bigger brakes, bigger wheels and tires, etc.
Ive worked on plenty of them over the past 20 years. Now they are so hyped and over priced. Buy one for 80k, put 40k into one and then it’s a nice car.

It is faster, better handling, huge difference in braking, 100 times better build quality, 1000 times better fit and finish, way better suspension, 10000 times better paint, 100000 times better interior, etc.
The only thing the old one had going was the manual that was fun. Hopefully the new one gets it.
I’ve worked on 20-30 old ones from stock to modded and I never did get the fascination with them in today’s standards.
They were old and poor fit and finish.
Now the one that everyone visions on their head is not stock. It’s the one that’s modified. To get one with new paint job,, new suspension, brakes, upgraded interior, modded engine to 600 hp, you will have 150k into it. You can buy almost 3 C8’s for that same money. At the end of the day, it’s still an old car that still can’t handle with the big boys.
I know from experience. If you do not have one then you wouldn’t know.
Toyota didn’t have a choice. They knew the last generation failed at sales before they pulled the plug. They knew the C8 was coming and to build the car the way everyone wanted, it would have cost 150k. Look at GTR and NSX. Poor sales on both those cars. BMW came to them and it cost them little. It’s all profit for Toyota.
Toyota would have needed to sell 100,000 units for 125k to make a profit. Never gonna happen.
Chevy can only produce those numbers at a low cost cause they have jigs all set up.
