Get rid of arguably the second militarily strongest nation in the alliance who btw has the most experience in blowing up Russian equipment for the past 10 years. They fought a proxy war against Russia in Armenia, Syria and Libya. Hardly what'd I'd call "friends." Russia's closest friend in Nato is Germany

How exactly does a society get this insane? Being this aggressive and belligerent even when you're completely outmanned and outgunned.   18.  @améliehester6996  I'm not a Republican or Democrat but the idea of a government agency deciding what is the "truth" is sketchy at best and outright authoritarian at worst. But we can't say this is a new phenomenon. The Nazi party had a ministry that decided what truths could be told, so did the USSR under Stalin. Two shining examples I guess.

  21.  @marlowc2324  Yes they know all too well what it's like to be colonized. They became colonized by the Russians, then by the Ukrainians and now the Russians again. And the Ukrainians are complaining that they aren't able to colonize the Crimean Tatars again. Might be best for them if both the Russians and the Ukrainians fuk off from Crimea and leave it to it's real inhabitants?

There is now way Ukraine is going to be able to take back the territory it lost. It's also sad how both nations are losing an entire generation of young men. :O( Hopefully this war comes to a conclusion soon regardless of who wins or loses.

Hmmm I've heard a lot of whoopers in my day but this one is kinda special. Btw there is nothing in Nato's charter that says it has to defend anyone outside of Nato. I'm not exactly sure what you're talking about.

The same Chicago which already has some of the toughest legal gun regulations in the country? Could it be piss poor political management of the city which is leading to all these murders?   40.  @ritemolawbks8012  Actually if you look at the track record of sanctions they actually don't work. Did sanctions change the behavior of North Korea? No, they've gotten worse. Did sanctions change the behavior of Iran? No, they've doubled down on their policy. Did sanctions make Turkey get rid of their S-400 missile systems? No, they bought more. How did the sanctions on Iraq work out after the first gulf war? Did they force Saddam to change his policies? Nope, so much so that we invaded a second time. The economists and financial experts can tell you how much pain the sanctions will cause the other nation. However they can't tell you how that nation will react to said pain. Now I'm not saying we should or shouldn't sanction nations, that's a political decision. But this idea that sanctions have a good track record of working is ridiculous. If you're sanctioning a nation to simply weaken them, yea go for it. If you're sanctioning them in the hopes they'll change their behavior? I'd recommend looking up Albert Einstein's definition of insanity. You also under estimate how beholden Europe is to Russia's natural resources. This idea that hey can simply "find them elsewhere" is pretty ridiculous. If it were that easy their entire economy wouldn't be so beholden to them. Europe cannot sustain these sanctions for a very long time. We in America can because we aren't reliant on Russia for anything critical.

Also are you under the assumption that the foreign policy establishment in nations don't constantly make insane mistakes? I can make you a list longer than this comments section can handle. This isn't about wanting a peaceful world or not wanting a peaceful world. This is about cold hard reality. I understand this is difficult for some to comprehend, looking at actual reality instead of the feel good rhetoric.

My argument is, it has a terrible track record of doing so. Please argue what is being talked about without going into random tangents.

  48.  @samsam828  Then the crisis for Russia would just be starting. Nato military bases right up their noses would render their heartland defenseless and completely at the mercy of other nations. Russia is in no position to want a war, the economic fallout would be very painful for their people. But the bear has been pushed up against a wall and is finally making a stand. All this could have been avoided if we didn't constantly and consistently continue to bring heavy weapons closer and closer and closer to their border. There is nothing left to cut, we're right on the bone and Russia is like a cornered cat. This is a very dangerous situation, this is exactly why Trump losing the election made the world a lot more dangerous. The establishment is back in charge and they've never seen a war or conflict they didn't like.

They're pretty adamant about not allowing a nation into the alliance that they are legally bound to protect that has been funding a terrorist organization that has killed thousands of their civilians. It's really a strange situation.
