Do you have naval experience in blockades? I'm not sure firing your weapon in a land fight (according to your logic) makes you the right person to ask about Naval Blockades.

If you believe Nato will start a war over this don't bother replying. You also didn't answer my question. Since you saw combat, was it naval combat or not? Because according to your own logic you shouldn't be able to have an opinion on the matter since if you didn't.

They don't have as much need for an air to ground fighter. 1. Due to their geography and weak neighbors 2. Their cheaply made drones can do that.

  20. @Sefer Simsek, There is no way France will stick around if bullets start flying. It's just bravado and grandstanding which the French are famous for. It's common knowledge France's military is not equipped to fight a hot battle which lasts more than 5 days. Ammunition problems.

France has thought crimes, when a government can intervene in what people think, that government is authoritarian. The American government too is growing more and more authoritarian every year. They still have a lot more territory to cover to catch up to France as far as authoritarianism. In France you can be fined or jailed for having "the wrong opinion" about historical events. How can anyone with a straight face claim this nation should be held as the standard for freedom? That is insane.

France is one of the few western nations where you can be punished for voicing your opinion on history in a way the regime doesn't like.

  28.  @diegoc.8518  Regardless of how you personally feel about a topic, anytime you have a law which criminalizes an opinion, your country no longer has freedom of expression. This basically opens the door for the regime to essentially say "Your opinion is okay as long as you have the opinion we like." Not to mention the memory laws in France forcing schools to teach French colonialism in a certain way. Imagine being a professor and having the courage to teach the truth about the Algerian genocide? Then what? Does that teacher get a fine? Fired? Jail time? Fact of the matter is France doesn't really care about freedom of expression. It only pretends to care about it when an opinion which the regime wants expressed is expressed. So don't kid yourselves or live in a fantasy world where you believe freedom of expression is important to France. It's not.

I'd imagine having an extremely angry neighbor once your protection is gone isn't exactly what I'd call a smart long term foreign policy.

According to the original comment, it seems he is pinning all his hopes on Greece's defense on an American airfield in Crete. If you disagree, you may want to address him with your comment, not me. Also I find your premise on why Greece "deserves" US support rather interesting. So if Greece deserves support because there are three million Greeks in America, according to your logic the US should support China even more because of the 5 million plus Chinese Americans living here? What kind of insanity are you expecting people to believe?

  39.  @tackytrooper  I do agree that the home front may have hampered the war but if you think our troops were anything close to as motivated as the Vietnamese I don't know what to tell you. The idea was to finish them off early, the military had plenty of time to get that done before the "home front" became an issue. They simply couldn't get it done. No knock on the military either because when you're dealing with a geography like that with a HIGHLY motivated enemy it's a tall ask. The hubris by the politicians to think it could be done easily and quickly is the crazy part.

  50.  @Sam_Guevenne  I don't think Turkey has any interest in joining the EU let along getting a "shot." I'd imagine more nations will be leaving the EU in the next decade than those trying to join. Nor do they seem to have much interest in allowing Sweden into Nato until their conditions are met. All in all they're holding the cards, dangling EU membership isn't going to help Sweden get into Nato.
