Long as the tech is properly compensated , who cares how the work is paid for. Having customer wait for oil leak fix is insane. Apparently Ray 's the mopup crew , expected to perform miracles on other's repairs without all the correct parts to do it right.

The Liabilities that this fix could create would keep many shops from attemping it. Not to mention the incredible labor charges. Kudos to the Bob Ross quote

Dealer staff unlikely to have personal able to read , muchless understand or remember a TSB.
17
New Pads with Fresh Rotors , always the wisest move.
15
Exlaxxly what occured here . Bosco fix Doomed the block
14
In Rustbelt vehicles , if cat can enter closed car , it's still advertised as "Rust Free"
14
Takes over $50k these daz to get close to Ray's set. Pro scanner alone can top $5k
13
With all the 'no sells' Ray's been getting, perhaps the service writer/seller could use alternative technique brush up ?
12
Sound advise... Applies to administering an enema 2
12
More proof of how rare good Techs are to find , then and now.
10
Sure happy got to move to West Texas from Montreal in 1960. Working on mostly unrusted cars has been a blessing.
10
No........ Who Cares ?
10
Good luck with that. If it was yesterday, Ya, mite have a chance.
10
Euro cars is kinda like having a big swimming pool.

Lubing any brake 'rub or slide' non friction surface is a good idea.
9
C b unfortunately there's no Fed safety standards for that type of private intervention. Many shops stamp the repair order with liability release for unfixed safety issue acknowledgement when invoice is paid. We called Tx DPS about grounding and were told there's no authority and they don't have the personal to handle those claims. AKA we can't stop folks from driving junk.
9
You'd have loved the Offenhauser Motor. It's DOHC head and block were all one piece. Look Ma , No Head Bolts. Made valve work entertaining.
9
Let the bleatings of the internet Moms be herd across the Land. Such Blasphemy , with out reason. Foolish move , if batt Not replaced
8
The Toyota trik here is .......... They're all the same & ...... There's lotsa them......

John Cooper is still having Nitemares over his creations evolution.
8
@johnarnold893 Seems the beast has served u well with normal maintenance
8
4L80 is a Boss Hog. Actually, TH400 w/od and ecu control . Even Hydramatic Div would be impressed with 400k, if never rebuilt(unlikely) Hot Rod Garage called it the 'best shifting Trans' they'd ever used . Caution: unbelievably heavy @ near 200lbs as installed. (Then add 3 gallons trans fluid). Have hundreds of runs on one in full option 72 Nova behind SBC, since 2014. They Take a Lickin & Keep on Trippin!
7
Where's your sense of adventure?
7
Many GDI Engines need invasive internal intake & valves scrub frequently due to major performance decline. This stuff helps some designs. Others need major Engine disassembly
7
Never gonna happen. Shop may even take the position, it was rainmans responsibility reengineering the junk new parts til they worked better than OE. Junk new parts are yuge cause of many cumbaks that make shop and staff look like fools. Of course, it's 100%/always the Techs fault.
7
Ray would be excellent shop owner
7
Send Ray a sample of that stuff so it's not a secret anymore.
7
Ray's perfect fit for local New Exotic Vehicle repair Stores. His persistence, attention to Detail are incredible . Exactly what hi end stuff owners pay well for. Not to mention 2-3X income boost.

It tis the Super Sad Tale of USA's de-industrialization that's being happening since the pinicle of mfg'ing might in 1965. Also bout that time when public Ed starts 'dumbing down' . What a coincidence , Eh ?
6
Ya , there's bunches ways to do it. If it still holds new filter , it's still good.
6
The age of violent video games has helped promote the idea of endless injury immunity amongst many users.
6
amen
6
@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling Not much prob with Exhaust systems these days .All stainless steel, outlast the vehicle , unless off roaded over boulders and tree stumps
6
DYI'ers can try to clean the sensor
6
Those who do this work for a living have many such happenings No day escapes without providing 'A Learning Experience' Memory training , now greatly lacking in pubic Ed systems is a must . Also major cause of few quality candidates available for this industry . Poor tech pay is another
6
@Rick Berglund forgot to mention I worked as a vehicle tech 45ys ........
6
The Diplomatic handling of former employee work agenda righteously well done. Many have found vehicle repair a stepping stone to less arduous, more rewarding endeavors.
6
@MikeyDee25 Hope you don't mind paying abit more for the personal service.

Good Suggestion!
5
This Nissan waz unusually rust free for Florida. The salty air is extremely corrosive for entire unit. The beach driven stuff is rusted like stuff north of Mason Dixon line. Here in CenTex I'd advise folks to trade off their rust for local stuff . Be Money ahead in the long run.
5
Bent cast wheels are usually cracked cast wheels. Forged wheels , more forgiving, but rarely found on general production stuff
5
@Mini-Driver should be plenty for sale in various states of needed repairs
5
Ya , Had all I wanted of salted ice drippin in my face @ Omaha Ford shop. Moved to CenTex in '78. Have several rust free GM , Ford gems I still drive from owners that got tired of . Career of mostly uncorroded vehicles made daily work more interesting without the rust to contend with. Ya , twas a good move.
5
Ya to that. But MC's 27yo and suspension rubber bushings age , crack and fall apart, just like tyres or any rubber part does. The Arrow of Time is Relentless. Nothing is Forever.
5
You suffered 'The Peter Principle' . Folks elevated to highest level of Incompetence by seniority vs experience
5
@automaster2881 Most likely your suggestion could cause catastrophic results. Double check your chemistry.
5
Lotsa recco's here. Really! Ray's demonstrated repeatedly.. Err on the side of caution . Always less pricey than a coffin.
5
Always on toyota....
5
L-i fumes can be lethal, too
5
