What shop did with outsourced pics borders on Fraud by not informing customer as to source.
5
Either way, not Ray's problem. Corrosion & Abuse has rendered parts as salvage .
5
@eddy Mahon So it does. Before spray cans , 1970s, Techs in shops I worked thot it great fun to clean brakes with air hose nozzle, creating clouds of asbestos dust. Spray kinda helped stop that idiocy, but only with another toxicity, it seems. That said , all vehicle chemicals , metal grindings and such, should be barriered from breathing and skin . They're all toxic.
5
Not to Worry. Eventually even Transit thing will have it's repair foibles. As will upcoming E models when they eventually fail. Their powertrain parts prices will make current stuff seem Dollar Store bargains.
5
@spaceflight1019 Would not the shop in that case , be justified in charging a considerable diagnostic fee......?
5
Great Tip
5
Have you considered a Toyota ? Their dealers do the same sell, but Usually all it needs is oil, tires , brakes. Stuff that any reputable established shop in your 'Hood' can provide @1/2 the cost. Just a thought.......
5
Soak in pot of diesel. Wash off with Royal Purple, stiff brush and kitchen grade 3M pads. Lay out cardboard to dry then lightly wipe with wd40/ oil. Store dry on cloth , paper towel. Wear Gloves
5
Bring the Black Am Express card !
5
Ours had a Copper hammer for wire wheels , venting frustrations
5
@buffalomerkis7603 Obviously not a Toyota, Honda !
5
On Nissan, chared sender is a concern. Another sketchy part from 'Chrysler of Japan' Not a bad idea to pretest pump that requires significant labor. Handling explosive liquid/fume gasoline is hazardous, Pilgrims. DIY'S, Don't make a roast of yee
5
@andrewsang4688 you would be a great tech with your positive outlook . You've got the basics down pat. The minor detail differences won't hold you back from earning a good living
5
Probably only needed drains cleared . But fortunately, owner elected to increase profitablity of pts mfg. And a chance for Ray to educate us on this task.
5
Such Physics used to taught to youngins in pubic skool's , but not anymore. That the ignorant are easily misled has become abundantly clear since Jan 2017.
5
@kalereborn You are most fortunate with such great repair service available. Very rare and unfortunately disappearing kwikly.
4
Is your point this is a needless fix ?
4
@warrantyvoid100 Wow. Thanks for info. Always thot the shiny dash paint and chrome interior trim pieces of 50s , 60s GM hi end rides had a cool custom touch'.
4
Never lend what you can't afford to lose. No experienced working Tech would loan his to a civilian. Like Surgeon's , Techs livelihood depends on their tools
4
"Glow Wrench" = Induction heated coil placed over fastner for rapid expansion , easing removal
4
Cooling system 'Sweep' is a good way to long term fix.
4
@johnt.848 Try as they might, Automotive Engineering has yet to make a vehicle completely Moron Proof !
4
@kjinohio5897 Guess it's Tru. There are folks that can ruin an Anvil !
4
What Happens is known as the Hi Amp Weld Technique.......
4
Ya , vehicles designed for rapid assembly line production. Repairs access is secondary, tho oft ranked by anticipated need.
4
Dealer Shop would be libel for any damages as vehicle is assumed to be in correct opporational mode
4
Many still use this method, but that type brng mostly replaced by sealed hub style. Kinda like V-belts and hydraulic power steering stuff
4
@Alan_Hans__ Ditto that. I have only ancient 60-70s GM , Ford and newer Asian's actually made in Japan to kept things reasonable as to maintain, repairs.
4
Changes of refrigerant types have little to do with environmental concerns in spite of B. S. It does have everything to to do with expiration of patents and related price monopoly .
4
What we have here is a failure to properly compensate @ Dlr level . And some independents too. I spent 4 days at such in N. Austin after Discovery they ran 2 repair orders on every job. Tech's would show 1.5 hr. Customers copy 2.0 . Long gone now, think it was called Hurts Auto. I moved on kwikly.. No fun not getting kissed after a ruf ride.
4
Ditto That......from both a legal and safety viewpoint these days.
4
@Jim Mason Tru that. Piston oil ring drain ports plugged cause too tiny. Warranty fix on near 10 yr old motor was all new piston/rod/ring & brng assemblies. Very expensive fix Toyota paid on millions of engines. Their site mite still show all serial nos. that were covered . Ours has 50k on fix. Uses bout pint of oil per 4k chg interval.
4
@poppiarlin5612 But they do vote. Hence the current somewhat illogical train of thought that 😭 permeants 2days media.
4
@ 76 I feel your pains , after 45 yr tech career ended a decade ago, stay busy fixing folks fun cars at slower pace. Gota keep going.........
4
@Lyle Coglianese @ some point humanity will have to deal with the side effects of electronic entertainment. For instance, USDOT notes fatal crashes from distraction approach those attributed to chemical use
4
The customers pay for all related supplies .
4
Senor Bailey is quite the Optimus.. Eh.
4
@aitorbleda8267 Are these small diesels still in profusion in Spain. Used to B in NA , but very rare in CenTex now. Lotsa Toyota's and Testicles abound on our slo moving parking lot highways. Makes street racing difficult !
4
@33ad1 Ah Yes , the excellence of Nissan engineering................ Chrysler of Japan
4
Hope it has oil pressure after BG scrub procedure. Cleaning the Scum layer off the bearings can cause excessive 'clearance' !
4
Ya , that technique's a winner 2
4
Many Fords used exact same systems in 60s, 70s. Lotsa leaks as it ages. Best replace all hoses, cylinder for long term fix
4
How long would you warranty fix fir ???
4
Could it B a reason experienced techs are in short supply ?
4
@akatripclaymore.9679 Ya to that. Brits seemed more focused on building cars that to need service, than making them reliable or serviceable
4
@SE-tt2sl How bout the whole story on grandpa's astonishing accomplishment . The snipit has all the marks of a great tale.
4
Nissan : the Chrysler of Japan
4
You could have. Not difficult, but time consuming.
4
Your injector fail rates impressive. Typically they're life of vehicle (Perhaps applies here ?)
4
You,ve only found the symtom. The cause will rear it's ugly head as sur a the sun rises
