Runted out of oil
2
Engines of little demand, but produced in large quantities indicate good reliability
2
Lotsa Speculation Here but no engineering reports on watt's causing obvious oil/pressure related fail on this half decade old issue ? Sadly the Car mags that told us how to fix 1st deactivation fails are all gone now. The performance industry hasn't Voiced any concerns when these same engines are modified for competition
2
If crank is still straight and frt maine journel isn't worn , the logical diagnosis is upward belt tension. A classic Example for Engine Service Guides.
2
Major Maintenance Malfeasance ruined another long life engine.
2
Kool Swap . That probably changed the car's entire character
2
CAUTION : These cars ADDICTIVE. I kept a 1998 GT I'd bought for profit for over a year after replacing its damaged motor with then available FOMOCO 2004 PI crate engine. 4spd AutoOD with hydroboost brakes. The extra 50HP was too much fun.
2
Stellantis chose to discontinue these V8s after 2023 , rather than developing them as FoMoCo and GM have. Kinda puts Chrysler/Ram behind the 8ball on competitive V8 ICE's ,eh
2
A veritable Rube Goldberg design of planned disaster.
2
Never Race UR daily driver. U'll do alota walking !
2
This short reaffirmed excellent decision to avoid anything Diesel in 45 yr tech career. Heavier parts and hard to scrub away smell offered no interesting challenges. Besides, plenty of young guns around to fix em cause they think diesel is kool
2
The vaunted LS . I started buying them after realizing they'll be in high demand for the next century or 2. Alum blocks , even more so . Super Compact[fit in anything] , Inexpensive High HP potential. All 4.8 -5.3 iron bloks easily bore to 3.90 LS1 5.7 spec.[$400 in Austin Tx] . If you don't have one , get it kwik , keep it dry. Lithium spray is a good long term preservative.
2
Oil Filter had nothing to do with this failure. Neither did design or mfg of Engine. Completely Owner/Op Abuse/poor upkeep. Oil Filter ,of course, catches Broken junk after oil pump sucks it from the pan. Removal of RPM limiter wasn't a good idea
2
Design Decision Defines Absurdity
2
Attempted Ins/Warranty job. Run w/o oil on purpose
2
Never happen-they run forever
2
Methinks your idea would hold good if water jackets OK. Were it mine , I,d sure give the old college try.
2
Watt would the costs in Machine Shop Service and Quality parts be to fix this Coyote? Wood it need Darton sleeves? Labor wood be 40-60 hrs @ $100 - $200
2
Another testament to how tuf the rods and pistons actually are. No rod yet invented would survive this Hydro lock event. Lack of maintence on top of hard use didn't help. Change your oil every 3-4k
2
Actually seems a well engineered and over 200K engine. Little wonder they have few complaints. No-Oil monster strikes again
2
Any internal diesel engine damage requires massive cash infusion for long term resurrection !
2
Xactly why Ford developed 7.3 L gas pushrod option to replace Mod V10 in 2020 F250-up.Its 430HP 475 Torque
2
Toyota had similar issues on 2.4 after oil ring drainage design change in pistons. Believe New Piston/Rod/Brng assemblies were the (est $3,000-$5,000) Warranty repair that fixed excess oil use in 08 Rav4 , still in use. It's oil was changed @ 5k intervals .
2
Very Rube Goldberg inspired Engineering
2
This verifies all the Rumors that a Porsche is going to be expensive , one way or another........
2
A Crank and Rod pair would fix this engine good as new.
2
Industrial Diesel Design for 3000 rpm , 100% loads is a different animal than ICE engines that spin past 6k , but usually little load. Each of this diesels cylinders is 1200cc !
2
Ya, they got a few unresolved problems. Engineering and product planning are 2.
2
Very Clever
2
You are correct
2
Many Diesel owners wish they had opted for this gasoline torquer....
2
When mazda techs started complaining about unreliable OE reman rotaries for their competition cars , I figured it's too complex from a service POV.
2
@ 175k , yaris is almost broke in. Be awhile yet before it needs attention.
2
As long as you're justly compensated for your time and talent, , unusual stuff is ok
2
Damage is Evidence of Global Decline in I.Q and Common Sense here.
2
Suspect incorrect diagnosis is behind needless engine swap
2
K.I.S.S. Theory Obviously not part of BMW engineering goals
2
Obviously maintence neglect issue. Operater kept it under load long after 'funny' noises started. The bent/twisted rods are testimony to how tuf they really are , tho many mite demonize this product of advanced mfg technique. Varnish indicates very hi miles, 150-200k at least
2
Would be cool to know what the 'breakaway torque' was @ moment of damper bolt release . Since the loader didn't come off the ground.is a starting point. Any engineering types out there ? I'd est 4ft breaker bar.
2
Needless Destruction of good engine, by failing to service it after obvious roll over, B4 attempting to start. So it died of Hydro-lok-itis, nanoseconds after cranking
2
Hope someone bought shortblock . Had nothing wrong. Dingleball hone , scrub, new rings , brngs & good to go another 200K. Erik's friend got deal on heads , OBD ll frt cov. Good street fun engine.
2
Something equivilent to Auto Trans Autopsy tables that fits under engine stand.................
2
Another Rube Goldberg Complexity Over Engineered Euro Powerplant , That's Inexpensivley replaced by a new GM V8 for less than 10% of fixing this nitemare. [AKA Hole that swallows $$$$]
1
Interesting that cast pistons weren't part of fail cause. But that needless oil pressure issues were as crank surviving bearings witness. All to common as aged vehicles often end in the hands of financially distressed owners.
1
'Don't do VW much' Not Much Worth Munch after 60k ???
1
 @InsideOfMyOwnMind To Each His Own............
1
How many owners have gone bankrupt after suffering a nissan CVT failure ??? Not known as Chrysler of Japan without good reason. Engine looks like lotsa stuff added after initial design , just to make it sorta work , sorta !
1
Many thanks for your efforts Very Entertaining
1
Someone will have an excellent shortblock for good NA or slight boost motor. Doubtful iron block suffered any real damage since knock sensor boots look unscathed. A pair of LS3 or clone 2.165 Sq port heads and matching flexfuel manifold [50psi injectors] , plus hi lift street cam = 500+ HP
1
A good original Chevy Rat. I'll bet most of it's sold already. Seen folks clean out the rust and dingle ball hone them to reuse as stock bore with original pistons. And live on for decades. This one only needs a reman crank kit
