  1. Something like this could only happen in Florida during an election year. I don't think they thought this out at all. That's too big of an employer to go after for using "corporate free speech" primarily from Disney World employees that changed nothing about the law. I briefly glanced at the § 189.072 2(a), Fla. Stat., and it mentions, "dissolving [an] active independent special district must be approved by a majority of the resident electors of the district." The "special district" where Disney functions as the local government with its own fire and police service is populated by Disney managers. My legal research on this should be taken with a grain of salt, but it looks like there could be problems with this strategy. This will have zero impact on Disney's bottom line. Disney should relocate the park and the jobs to Arlington, TX. The cruise liners can depart from Galveston, TX. If the low taxes were what Disney used to continue to invest in Florida, they know how to cut costs by raising prices and possibly closing the park. and state or foreign country would gladly take them.

  3. That's the intention. The US didn't want Russia to have the element of surprise or use disinformation campaigns as they did in 2008 in Georgia and 2014 in Ukraine. If the Kremlin is using asymmetrical warfare, online trolls, and the media then so should the West.

  4. Since he's an international rock star and Time Magazine's Person of the Year, I would have loved to had the opportunity to meet him. I doubt this will be his last visit, so maybe I'll get another chance in the future. Like America's support, the contributions from the UK have also been very significant, so there's a chance he could visit them soon. I believe the Ukrainians will successfully defend their democracy, retake their occupied territory, and win this war. IMO, history will consider Zelenskyy as being the "Winston Churchill of the 21st century." This war was absolutely preventable and a blunder by the Kremlin.

  5. Might surprise you, but we know that's BS. If Americans didn't care about Ukraine, they wouldn't be watching; and DC would only be talking about inflation and post Covid-19 supply-chain bottlenecks. I'd suggest opening an economic textbook to learn how the Fed could stop inflation in weeks by causing a recession and mass unemployment like they did in 1980. If you need some food, go to a food bank. The US is rich and strong enough to "walk and chew gum at the same time." Paying more for gas isn't comparable to being exterminated by a mad man.

  13. I didn't realize this was a problem, but that's the backlash for Russia being at war. Vladimir Putin is the one who has harmed The Russian Brand. There is a borderline between legitimate backlash from the war and Russo-phobia and discrimination. The hate phone calls are clearly discriminatory, but choosing not to patronize Russian businesses as a protest against the war is perfectly fine.

  17. He's definitely not the only incompetent public official that was on the scene that day, but he's a civil servant who answers to an elected school board. They could easily make the argument that it was in the public interest to fire him. That would have eventually happened once the civil lawsuits determine how much of the liability for damages the school will be responsible for.

  18. It seems that way, but this a proxy conflict between the US and Russia. Russia's respect the EU's economic might, but it's not the same as confronting the US. The Kremlin bypasses the Germany, EU, and Ukraine completely and deals directly with the White House.

It takes too much time trying to do a fact check for people who don't believe in facts. Relocating wouldn't cause bankruptcy. That would be a good point if it made sense but it doesn't. Relocation is financed by loans and state tax breaks. The park shut down for most of 2020 and was nowhere close to being bankrupt. Ford left most of its factories in Michigan and moved them overseas and across the US. They go bankrupt by trying to continue unprofitable operations, and if Orlando is unprofitable, it makes business sense to leave there and go to another state.

Someone that dependent on US and NATO assistance shouldn't be making jokes about the billions in assistance his nation is receiving, and the risk of a potential confrontation between two nations with nukes. It's his nation, but this is a confrontation between Washington, DC, and Moscow. There's an American saying that "beggars can't be choosy," and the fact that he pleaded for US and EU help with Russia means he's not in a position to criticize the help he's receiving.

If we're rebuilding Ukraine, just as we did post-WWII West Europe, then the US should have a post-war economic trade deal and a relationship closer to the US than it is with the German-led European Union. Having a new market of 45 million Pro-American Ukrainians will help the West in our confrontation and competition off the CCP. It might seem like aid to Ukraine is charitable donations and sympathy cards from Hallmark, but there will be big money going in to rebuilding Ukraine. The US should benefit most from it.

We should remember that as an officer of the court, Mr. Paxton used taxpayer resources to file a frivolous lawsuit to get the Supreme Court to intervene and invalidate American democracy.

  32. They may be able to select the house speaker and not much else. They'll need both houses to begin to undue most of the Biden and Democrat policies codified in law or executive orders. During the GOP majority, the federal courts incl. the Supreme Court were packed by Mitch McConnell. After the Dobbs decision, I'm not sure how willing the judges will risk being seen as a politically motivated branch at odds with the White House.

  34. @Robdog 1 The US didn't randomly get involved. This might be a region you're not familiar with. We signed the Budapest Memorandum with the UK and Russia. Ukraine was forced to surrender its Soviet-era nukes on the condition that the US, UK, and Russia provide aid and security. This is all common knowledge. I've been to Russia and Ukraine, and the way you're describing Ukraine could describe Oklahoma and West Virginia. That is why I mentioned it is better to let people who know geopolitics discuss anything related to Russia. What you're claiming to NOT be a US business is definitely our business, so the time wasted trying to explain geopolitics could have been prevented if you had taken the time to research why the US is involved.

  44. Since the high court is still very business friendly and pro-big pharma, I can't see them upholding a Texas judge's ruling, which will invalidate nationwide FDA-approval of mifepristone. If the Texas judge's decision was based on credible medical evidence; an imminent safety risk; or a colorable procedural or legal error by the FDA, then that would grounds for the judiciary overturning an administrative decision of the FDA.

It's the oldest country on earth and there's plenty we can learn from them. I've been to Japan and Australia, but I won't visit an area under the control of the CCP and the Xi Jinping dictatorship. It's not hate. I'm just not going to sit back and watch a global empire it took centuries and two world wars to build get replace by a country that isn't innovative, steals technology, and spies on the US. If a competitor asserts itself as a new global superpower and a counterbalance to America's international hegemony and the US dollar, then that's tantamount to a declaration of war. In the perfect world, there would be peace and we could sing Kumbaya. That's not realistic and US politician seen as weak on China, Russia, North Korea, or Iran should be no wear near the White House. A better challenge for you would be to gain a better understanding of US foreign policy and what happened to cause US-China, South Korea-China, Australia-China, Vietnam-China, Taiwan-Mainland China, Japan-China, India-China, Eu-China, Canada-China, and UK-China relations to drastically deteriorate over the past decade. Hint: It wasn't Chuck.

The reason people are against is the US educational system. They don't know how foreign aid translates into an economic benefit to the US. It's not our job to explain it either. If they are against it, they could contract their representative instead post these disingenuous comments that are about politics and not international affairs.
