  1. It's great seeing Germany and the European Union taking the lead, and going to the Ukraine during the war to see the atrocities. I only wished they had stood up sooner before becoming vulnerable to Kremlin energy blackmail. At the end of this conflict, the balance of power in Europe and world affairs will be changed drastically. Modern warfare has already evolved and with the financial sanctions and other "soft powers" playing a significant role, Germany and the EU will be able to wage war on many fronts.

  4. It would be better to give no response rather than giving China a mediator role it has no interest in fulfilling. The war is in Europe. How is China going to get Ukraine and the European Union to take any positions or decisions opposed by the US and Russia? China has existed for thousands of years. When have they ever intervened in a European conflict. They have to comply the same US/EU sanctions against Russia and won't risk conflict with the West or totally isolate Russia.

  6. I wish them the best, but It would be better for science if they'd shared their findings with ESA and NASA. Neither ESA nor NASA or hostile to Russia or their cosmonauts on the ISS. NASA honored Soviet cosmonauts with a plaque during their moon landing, and the US space program have always had a great deal respected the scientific achievements of the German rocket scientist and the Soviets, who initially had the technological advantage in the early days of the space race. It would have been more beneficial to the international scientific community had Russia used their expertise and technological specialization, and returned a probe to the surface of Venus. Each space agency does have a technological expertise, and the Soviet/Russia space program has been the only nation to successfully land a probe on Venus. NASA is the expert at landing probes on Mars and exploring the outer solar system. NASA and ESA have jointly landed the first probe on surface of Saturn's moon, Titan, and worked together to develop and launch the James Webb Space Telescope.

  8. I think we've finally come to the point when we can stop fearing Germany re-arming and taking a more assertive leadership role in European security. The US and UK are still security partners in Europe, but Germany is the most powerful country on the continent and along with NATO/EU should take the lead in the West's confrontation with Moscow.

I know many people are still crediting the White House and EU economists with designing the sanctions package, but Zelenskyy and his social media campaign are just as effective at rallying the world. I'm still trying to understand the strategic thinking of the Kremlin because this miscalculation has only increased the significance of NATO, and will only lead to a German/European Union superpower that buys more LNG from the United States.

If the conflict expanded to NATO, the full industrial capacity, civilian workforce, and economic might of North America and Europe could be mobilized to prioritize defense production and ration consumer goods. During the last mobilization in the 1940s, it only took months for US factories to be converted to war production. There's no reason the same strategy wouldn't work today with the mostly automated and highly productive manufacturing sector.

The US and Soviet Russia both rebuilt most of post-war Europe and formed new military alliance, but at this point the EU is fully capable of defending itself and has the second largest economy. The US will always have its individual trade agreements, security partnership with European states, but Berlin and Brussels should take the lead in military affairs. The Kremlin's public reason for opposing Ukraine's membership in EU/NATO is because they would have US troops and bases surrounding Russia. In reality, the Russian economy can't compete with the European Union. NATO membership also involves defense production (military-industrial complex) and military spending goals. With Ukraine moving toward the West, the Kremlin loses a potential market for selling its weapons. As far as "Cold War continuation," the US and UK are pivoting to the Pacific and Asia. This new tension in Europe is mostly related to each power protecting their business interests.

  18. That's very impressive growth despite not being a true capitalist nation (actually not even close to being one) and not having control of the global currency. It mostly shows how the economic potential of China was held back by the Cold War, communism, and being partially cut off from international trade by the US. In the 70s, Japan was positioned to eventually surpass the United States and Soviet Union as the largest economies also. It's never good to announce your own nation as being the "next superpower," without expecting a response from the current title holder. During the first two decades of the 20th century, the US was able to quietly surpass the GDP of the British Empire and Germany. The role of replacing the UK as "world's policeman" seemed to have happened after 1918. None of this alerted the UK. They were too focused on Germany not having a Navy or a comparable empire that threatened Britain's colonies and trade. There's a good chance that India, Germany or a German-led European Union could be the actual sleeping giants, but most of the world is hyper focused on China and Russia.

  26. The threat against the US aiding Ukraine is a diplomatic protest. At worst, it could lead to severing diplomatic relations between Moscow and Washington, DC. Russia isn't even fighting a legal war in Ukraine. If Russia were to attack American or NATO forces, then things would escalate very quickly. Just as Churchill said he cried tears of joy after Pearl Harbor because he knew the British Empire was saved at that point. An act or declaration of war would bring over 30 different nations from NATO and Pacific allies, so the war and Vladimir Putin would also be over at that point because Russians aren't going to risk a war with the US.

It's the largest military alliance in history and larger than the combined strength of every other national military combined; 2 It's a Cold-War alliance (Not WWII) originally meant to a) keep Germany from rearming and dominating Europe; b) keep Soviet Russia (Fmr. largest armed force in Europe) OUT of West Europe, West Germany, and West Berlin; and most important c) Keep the USA in Europe; 3. The US mobilized and arrived late for two world wars. The US and Russia are two largest militaries in Europe and haven't had a direct conflict; and have prevented another major European war; 4. They buy American-made products, surrender a great deal of sovereignty to the US, fought and died in the Middle East after 9/11; and are the coalition that makes the US President the leader of the Free World. Congress won't get rid of it, and neither will any US President make himself weaker. Europe will keep it because the US presence has made the Europe Union a stable superpower without the need for a large German-dominated European armed forces, which neither France, Great Britain, or Russia wants to return to Europe.

The Soviet Union went through revolution, purges, famine, gulags, Holocaust, holodomor, and WWII to become the second-largest economy and police state. There are better ways to become rich and prosperous because communism and planned economies never work. You'll find that out when China has its first major recession, which is long overdue.

  41. I would look into how China managed to "escape" if a reliable and impartial study examined their pandemic response and results. I'm not claiming that the US, UK, and European Union have the best strategy. That's not the case, but they do have better transparency, and so does even Brazil, Ukraine, and Russia. The numbers from India and the CCP are uncertain, and just like the economic indicators and effectiveness of their vaccines, it's better to use other data and indirect indicators like (excess deaths) and hospitalization rates. Public officials have a political incentive to use stats that reflect them in the best light. That's why the independence and impartiality of researchers in the West is a check that holds governments to account.

It just shows how weak the Ruble and the Russian economy are, and since McDonald's was never forced to shut operations in Russia, the unemployed workers would have lost employment due to no fault of their own. It says a lot about the weakness of the Ruble/USD exchange rate when McDonald's can close all Russian operations and still afford to pay all their Russian workers without any Ruble-based BigMac revenue. It's not affecting their bottom line now, but the short-term compensation should help their Russian employees until they eventually permanently close all of the Russian stores and it becomes McOligarchs.

The fact that the virus rarely causes hospitalizations and serious disease in children; 2. at least ten different vaccines declared "safe and effective" against SARS-CoV-2, and the multiple strains of the virus; 3. no measurable benefits of using the hydroxy drug; 4. The fact that wearing only cloth face coverings is effective at preventing transmission of both the coronavirus and influenza; and 5. we can see the cyclical pattern of coronavirus is not identical to the flu; 6. We can see the impact of lockdowns; and 7. That it's possible to get "reinfected" with Covid-19 after recovering. Those are just a few, but it's without a doubt that we know much more now than we did one year ago.

Armenia, France, Greece, Sweden, Cyrus and the Kurds are US allies that Türkiye hates. The millions of Uyghurs that Xi is holding in prisons would like to see how powerful and important Türkiye is when they stand up to the CCP. The Islamophobia isn't only in the West.

  49. Doesn't matter. It's not relevant to what's happening in Ukraine in 2022. This is a war in Europe, so of course, they will have a different reaction with it happening so close to their homes. That tactic is called "whataboutism," and no Ukrainian will blame US foreign policy on what's happening now because it won't stop the war crimes.

  50. Nope. The governments can't seize property in the West. The assets and proceeds still belong to the Oligarchs. They're just frozen. The Russian Central Bank's assets are also frozen, not seized. Russia and the private owners haven't technically stolen these planes either. They won't be able to be served and will eventually become death traps. It probably makes them feel like they're doing something to retaliate, but sanctions were designed to destabilize the Russian economy and cause a recession. That's all but assured now, and the West is aware of the costs associated with economic warfare.
