  6. I don't think this will end well for the Russians residing in, and occupying, Mariupol. There will be survivors from the siege of Mariupol and other Russian war crimes seeking revenge against the occupiers. In post-WWII Europe, German citizens had to become refugees and were fearful of the Soviet Red Army reclaiming territory. I couldn't imagine the anger of Ukrainians who lost their homes and are being "re-educated" and "Russified."

  7. I'll never understand the hate so many people had/still have for Britain's sweet, elderly Queen. She had a nearly flawless reign, so unless she was secretly an autocratic tyrant sending people to Tower of London without trial, then I think the anger is misplaced.

  11. There are still limits on what NATO can do without becoming an active participant in the war. The reason the Javelin and stinger missiles were publicly announced is because they're defensive and it should have been a deterrent to Moscow. Obviously, they found out the hard way, but any other military and Intel support from individual nations should have been confidential. The Soviet-era MIGs from Poland was an example of what can go wrong when the military assistance is made public.

  16. There's a hotline from the Kremlin to Washington, DC, so now would be a perfect time to use it. The Russians should just say they're willing to negotiate for real now and compensate the Poles. Otherwise, NATO will have a reason to finally establish a No-fly Zone in Ukraine and end the war.

  17. I'm not from Florida, but I'm pretty sure the state has adult bookstores that aren't used for reading. Don't make the mistake I did in college by entering one to look for textbooks. Florida has plenty of property and sales (VAT-like) taxes, licensing fees, and grants and subsidies from the federal government. It would be nearly impossible to get coverage for hurricane damage without government intervention in the insurance industry.

  23. This is a great example of a modern democracy. The only problem was the Ukrainian nationalists in the crowd who booed at the Russian language. The Kremlin would use that to help divide and conquer the Russian-speaking part of Ukraine.

The US was clearly on the side of Britain during both world wars, but it still had to caution until the majority of the American public supported war. That hasn't happened yet in North America or Europe.

  34. Easy Answer: "Because the British people haven't abolished it." They haven't abolished it because they have no reason to. Britain is one of the oldest continuously functioning liberal democracies and constitutional monarchies. Becoming a republic would only be symbolic because the head of the government would still be a prime minister. The Queen remains popular and inherited the position. There would have to be a cause to get rid of the monarchy. Abolishing the monarchy and seizing all of the crown estate would be punishing them for doing the very thing all constitutional monarchies are required to do: Stay out of politics and observe parliamentary supremacy.

  37. Why would Mainland China flatten an island of Chinese people? They're the oldest country still existing and have never started a war of conquest. Attacking Taiwan would start a war with the US. If they are trying to grow their economy, why would they risk destruction by the only nation that's bigger than them.

  45. He was born in New York City, so he's eligible. The British accent alone would make him a more appealing candidate and seem more intelligent with international experience. Because of the similarities of the culture, politics, and economics in the US and UK, he would be a tough candidate to defeat. Most Americans wouldn't consider any of his scandals serious enough to disqualify him. Despite his funny-looking hair and comical gaffes, when he starts to discuss policy and strategy his background at Eton and Oxford and his populist support becomes apparent. The fact that he won a general election, supported Ukraine, and completed Brexit would be enough for him to run on.

After Russia began funding rebels in the Eastern Donbas and annexed Crimea, US foreign policy and congressional authorizations provided commitment of US economic and military aid.
