  5. By the way, for anyone who really cares, we are still deforesting the planet. That includes the U.S. where the reforestation projects in the Northwest are not enough to offset the deforestation that is still going on in the rest of the country. We are probably one of the mildest ones too.

  10. We're digging ourselves a big hole. I could tell when I did a report back in 2002 that we weren't going to do anything useful about Global Warming. We had all the Bushites, the precursor to MAGA, believing in everything Big Oil told them. Hell, even the Vice President was froman oil infrastructure company, and GW himself was fresh out of governing Texas, The oil capital of the U.S. a lot of the members of my team were climate deniers to begin with. The best I could hope for in that group was to convince everybody that the temperature was going up, but they wouldn't accept that man-made part of it at all.

  11. Scientists need to stop presenting theories as fact. It's killling their reputations. I hear too many times that it's impossible to even approach the speed of light. Photons do it all day. When you turn on a flashlight, the light coming from that flashlight has to accelerate to the speed of light, or it wouldn't be very bright. "Oh, well it's insantaneous", or some such rash explanation. Sure it is. Let's just add another variable like Einstein did.

  25. Solar Panels don't care about the quality of the growing area. It's utterly stupid to put solar panels in forest areas when they can be placed in arid desertlands. Superconductors can make this practical. If you do place panels in growth areas, you need to let the plant life grow back after you've decimated the landscape, otherwise this is just another excuse for deforestation. I'd like to know if the forest they used compares to all forests, or did they pick a lousy one? At least you can grow grass under the panels. I think their math is suspect. This is absolutely no exercise in deforestation since it takes ZERO years to grow a forest that is already there. I suspect these guys are trying to sell us something. Are they in the desalination business by any chance? Because if we cut down all the forest and kill all the plants, there will be nothing to retain the moisture in the soil, and we will all die from dehydration and malnutrition. Carbon problem solved.

  35. Definitely, within the operating range of the heatpump, it uses only about 35-40% of the power of an electric heater element. There are some reasonably priced heatpumps available that still work all the way down below -10°F, and they also cool above 120°F in summer. We are going to need those sooner than the later.
