One of the disadvantages of performing in public is having to listen to the critics. They imagine themselves to be helping. 99% of the time, they are not.   6. Sparta was a socialist collectivist nation. They reviled the free market, raised the kids collectively, and used force to get the labor they needed. It is no surprise that they did not last long. Socialist, centrally planned economies that do not defend individual freedom and free markets tend not to last very long. They are less productive and less able to react to change. Slaves are much less productive than willing entrepreneurs and land-owning farmers. Free nations last longer.

  21. The roads should all be privatized again. Back to what they were in 1920. Why should taxpayers subsidize the auto industry and private and commercial travel? It should all be funded by tolls, use fees, and private contributions.

  22. Government schooling is a failed experiment. Ironic that the Prussians, who pioneered the factory school, would not see that their government schooling was a socialistic concept. Private schools are better and cheaper. Homeschooling is even better than private schooling and is even cheaper than that. All government schools should be privatized, and a full-ride voucher should be given to the bottom half.

  24. Notice that they thought they needed a constitutional amendment to give power to the fed govt to prohibit and regulate alcohol. Back then, they understood the 10th amendment and the Constitution. But now we think we can have a war on drugs without any such amendment. But the constitution did not change in relevant ways. All that changed was our willingness to ignore the Constitution. Biden has no power to require masks for 100 days, either. Government is gaining power. The people have forgotten the protection and value of the Constitution. Government schools have failed us in this and many other ways. And so we slide towards dictatorship. It is a Republic, if we can keep it.

  25. I'm so glad that we still have the freedom of speech and expression to tell and hear stories like this. I fear that the first and second amendments will soon be deleted, or just ignored. I fear that the road we travel upon will again lead us to peaceful people being kept in cages.

  29. Polk was right. The US Constitution forbids the people to be forcibly taxed in order to make a charitable contribution. Such a contribution can not rightly be called charity, since charity must be voluntary, and taxation is not. Also, the US was never "isolationist." Japan was isolationist for a time when it prohibited all trade and contact. The US had plenty of trade for its entire history. Instead, it was non-interventionist, and followed JQ Adams and G Washington's advice to avoid foreign entanglements and not to go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. Today, these views would be called "libertarian."

  30. The Constitution granted many new powers to the Federal government. Samuel Adams refused to attend the Constitutional Convention, claiming that he "smelled a rat." And now we have a federal government that has seized too much money and power, and no longer confines itself to the limitations of the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

As an American, I'm always embarrassed for the actions of the US against American Indians, Viet Nam, Korea, the Iraq war, the Iran coup, Iran-Contra, the drug war, the Tuskagee Syphilis experiment.... the list goes on and on.   39. Wonderful history! I'd just like to remind people that an empire is a horrible, horrible thing. Not a success. It represents conquest and rule by force over peaceful people. It deserves to be remembered in order that empire in general may be avoided.

  45. The cost required to clean up all of the government polluted and radio active military and atomic energy sites dwarfs the cost to clean up all of the private and superfund sites in the US. The government is the nation's worst polluter.
