The power of nukes is in their deterrence factor. Once you use them you lose most of the strength of the weapon. Someone unfazed in the face of first-strike use against them is not going to be stopped once it has been used.

To a point. Do keep in mind that Vlad Lenin said a good capitalist will sell you the rope you eventually hand him with. Taqiyya, Tawriya, Kitman and Muruna philosophy in Islam teaches something similar. Expect an eventual betrayal.

Why were they not willing to risk their lives while the US military was there? Why were they not willing to defy the Taliban before this? Why is it only now when the US is gone that they now suddenly have buyer's remorse?

Blaming the parents is fine, but it is NOT the legalization of guns that is the problem. People will resort to knives in the absence of guns. Stabbings are five times higher where guns are unlawful.
1
@Tropxxxx You would be surprised. My grandparents got me a knife for Christmas when I was 9. I turned around and had my parents hold onto it because I did not trust myself at the time. I was afraid I would cut my own fingers off with it.

Pyrrhic victory maybe. And is that truly final victory?

@Bizzare77777 You don't understand the Law of Armed Conflict. You are a moral equivocator with zero experience on the battlefield. There is a word for people like you: CHIECK HAWK. Try putting on a uniform and understand that the Uniform Code of Military justice WILL hold you to account. Just take a look at what they tried to do to Lt. Colonel Alan West.

@TheDynamicmarket Wrong. You do realize that Estonia, Lithuanian, and Latvia ALL share a border with Russia? And that NATO troops ARE already on that border and have been since their ascension? Your argument ignores hard facts which eviscerates your claims. Putin very much DID care about all of those former Warsaw Pact nations joining; it removed the historic buffer that the old Soviet Union enjoyed. You want to accuse NATO of belligerence and yet NATO HAS NOT invaded any country. And before you go "but Afghanistan!" I will remind you that the Taliban was given the option of handing over Bin Laden and could have avoided the hammer. By harboring an international terrorist, they violated the UN charter.

Yeah, it is a shame we don't have a better relationship. I get that India wants to be the champion of the third world/independent movement. But that doesn't preclude the US and India having a closer relationship.

If he does, Russian will have alienated even the nominally neutral nations. That is a bridge he cannot afford to cross.

Moskva the Sinkable Not really. American "intelligence" is more focused on Midwest "memaws" than outside threats. I trust British intelligence MORE than I trust American intelligence. And I say that as an American.
1
Jack Hui I am fully aware of what they would consider a declaration of war. And some of them NEED to be crossed to call China's bluff.

Tell that to Pele's face.

@vanlin9107 Actually it DOES matter. As a Korean you of all people should know that Democracy south of the DMZ is better than the squalor and famine north of the DMZ.

"Testing the West"? Have you so quickly forgotten the 2008 Russo-Georgian War over South Ossetia? Or the 2014 theft of Crimea? They both followed the playbook Putin is using now. Difference is, the Ukrainians are putting up more of a fight than they did in 2014.
