  9. Neither does Canada, and it seems Canada will never get high-speed rail. Here on Vancouver Island, we have actually lost all of our passenger rail service. We are stuck with roads for surface transport.

And it is capitalism that has demonized public transport in most of the US, because capitalism sees public transport as unfairly competing with cars, a product that can be sold en masse for big corporate profits.

  34. It does NOT work that way. Public transit is NOT supposed to be profitable. Only carbrains would argue otherwise. Trying to make public transit profitable will only succeed in putting more cars on the road. You need to realize that taxation tries to benefit society as a whole. But unfortunately, the ultra-rich do not want to share their benefits because they do not want to share their wealth.
