  2. The most valuable real estate property would be a Japanese engineering / construction firm entering the market with imported Japanese materials and using all Japanese contractors. The Chinese would flock to those type of properties.

  10. Fun Fact: the US Census department is the sub-department under Commerce that publishes import-export data with China. They publish it monthly with 1-2 month lag. I tried to find the EU equivalent website, but couldn't find it easily. Here are the US imports numbers from China. Really have to look at a multi-year numbers as a base for comparisons. Pandemic screwed things up. Short version: 1- US imports from China are back to 2013-2014 levels (nominal comparison) 2- US imports started to drop in Oct '22, but Nov '22 was the big decline. Will be key to watch the Nov '23 monthly number.   27. The even weirder part of CPI vs PPI is...housing. In the US, 30% of CPI is housing. PPI doesn't have a housing component. Obviously, housing is falling dramatically in CCP China right now. It would be really really hard for CPI to be higher with housing costs falling. note: China's CPI is a black box. Have no idea what % they assign for housing in CPI.

  34. In theory, high inflation will self correct. Prices get too high and people buy less. Demand lowers and brings inflation lower. Deflation is a total death spiral. Can’t self correct without some type of external fix.

The biggest issue with CCP China in commercial vs residential real estate: commercial companies can go bankrupt and stiff the banks with the loans. Chinese chives citizens can't discharge their debt and have to pay for eternity. The commercial real estate market is a way bigger risk to the financial system.

  36. Man, losing high paying white collar jobs ie law firms is devastating. They spend lavishly with clients. Also, just imagine the little things like the people that cleaned the offices, dry cleaners and places they ordered food for lunch.

You send some of your better troops because it's an international mission. Somalia is a good example even though it was direct action against Americans. The Chinese were the sideshow in Sudan.

  42. The slow bleed is the worst. In 2008, my former company was afraid of the unknown, but our numbers were never terrible. I ran the department responsible for revenue, so I never felt uneasy because I had full visibility and things weren't bad. After 2009, we felt comfortable enough to hire / give raises again. Basically, about 1.5 years of belt tightening just in case. China keeps tightening slowly and no one knows where the bottom is. Realistically, they've been in a recession for at least 1 year now and no real stimulus. It's mind boggling.

  44. US is pretty strict with single females due to prostitution / human trafficking. My relative from Asia was questioned for an extended period of time even though its a visa free country to the US and she was staying with me.

  47.  @arnoldmags1996  It's mathematically impossible. RE is 25% of the economy and is down at least -20%. That means everything else has to be up 7% just to get to a flat GDP. That's ain't happening. Minimally, they are -5% GDP, but probably closer to -10%.
